Time Out Hong Kong is a bi-weekly English language local magazine covering HK. Time Out resembles the free alternative weekly newspapers that many cities have. Except that it is presented in a glossy magazine format. Like city themed magazines, there is coverage of the newest and hottest restaurants in the city which Time Out publishes reviews of. If you are looking for information regarding hole in the wall restaurant establishments though, this is not the right source. You will need to check Openrice or Yelp instead. The magazine does have an event calendar section detailing upcoming events in the city as well as new movies opening up soon. There are also numerous feature articles covering current local affairs. For instance, there was a recent article about a food scandal revolving gutter oil. Living half a world away, I had no idea about it until I read it in Time Out. I am not sure who the reader base of this magazine is. But I think that this magazine is most popular with American and European ex-pats who now reside in HK as well as with tourists like me who picked up this magazine trying to get a better feel about life in this city. If you are travelling in HK, it is worth picking up a copy of Time Out while visiting. It has interesting features, but it also is an excellent resource of what's happening in town in the next couple weeks. read more
