Going horseback riding for the first time was an absolute highlight thanks to our guide, Devon, who made us feel safe and confident throughout. We also loved the Saturday morning walk with Jenn, Bungee, and Tali, where we learned so much local and family history. Everything about the lodge exceeded our expectations, from the stunning mountain views and delicious dinners to the live music and cozy room. We cannot wait for our next visit!

We had a wonderful relaxing stay, the views of the mountains were gorgeous! We like to get out in nature and the hiking trails nearby were awesome, White Oak Falls probably being my favorite. There were quite a few local wineries that were also a treat. The House was very comfortable, it rents by whole house or by room, and although we only rented a room, we got lucky and had the whole house to ourselves that weekend! The kitchen was nicer then my kitchen and such a pleasure to cook in. :) It was tastefully decorated, our bed super comfortable, we felt right at home. Grilled on the patio one night and enjoyed the sunset. It's nice to have a change of scenery! I plan of staying at the Hood House again, and would happily recommend it to others!

The House is situated at the foot of beautiful mountains, with spectacular views. There is a lovely en suite bedroom on the first floor, and 4 bedrooms and two bathrooms on the second floor. If you're attending a wedding at the nearby Early Mountain Vineyard, this is the perfect place to stay; roomy enough to accommodate an entire wedding party. They have -fishing -RC car track -mountain bike track -intertubing -basketball court -pickleball court -ping pong -swimming pool & water slides -playground We decided to go glamping and were pleasantly surprised but how nice the tent was. Our tent had an AC unit, small fridge , microwave and hot plate. It also had a bathroom with a nice shower. My kids slept in another room with bunk beds and the AC was not located in there room so we used a fan to help push the air around. Since you are sleeping in a tent the you can hear everything happening outside. So light sleepers be aware. I would highly recommend renting a golf cart to get around because of how the camp ground is laid out. Plus taking a little golf cart ride on this camp ground is a good time there are tons of little paths and roads to explore. This is not what I would consider a " party camp ground" the vibe is more laid back. They also have a quiet time that they do enforce. Overall I enjoyed myself here and would come back again

The pool is a lot of fun with the slides. It will keep your kids entertained for hours. It could benefit from a few more umbrellas for people to sit under. Otherwise very well kept, even the restrooms were very clean. The bike track and rc car track are great. Also very well kept. The dog park is quite large. We ended up not needing it, as we just walked the property with the dogs instead. The sites are decent size. Beautiful views all around. We did the river tubing. It takes about 30 minutes to go through it all. They do not have tubes to rent. We ended up getting some at Buc-ee's for $14 a piece. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. I'd definitely recommend coming here!

It was a fabulous get-away with all of the amenities of home (including a well-equipped kitchen with Green Pans that I loved). We cooked all of our meals at the cabin with ease. The cabin is also super comfortable with two good sized bedrooms; each with 2 beds and their own bathroom. The morning sunrise is beautiful as it comes up over the mountains and breaks up the morning fog. We spent evenings playing board games around the large round dining table and then enjoyed watching The Office reruns on Netflix. We also built a fire in the outdoor fire pit and made s'mores. The cabin is very close to White Oak Canyon where we ventured off for a hike on the only sunny day that we had while there. Did I mention the neighbors? No? That's because there weren't any....unless you count the cows grazing in the field next door. All in all a fabulous vacation. We'll definitely be back!

The camp store had the essentials and the staff was friendly. Final update (for real): I did receive another return call from a manager this morning (after I…read morecalled) and I was able to answer it. We discussed the customer service aspect that this whole experience was lacking. The original issue was not the lack of a transparent policy, of which we had followed all rules, it was the automatic assumption that we had broken those rules based on limited evidence and without contacting the customer directly. Then the resulting customer service experience was a failure because instead of returning my phone call, I received another email that again was not informed by any discussion. I am glad the issue is resolved and hope that this situation will help promote a better experience for others in the future. Last update: Marriott did attempt to call me back yesterday but I was not available. I still have not spoken to a manager, nor explained anything from my perspective, but as a "gesture of goodwill" the charge was removed. Updated review: With no call from a manager and without them asking for additional details, I received another email that said that "our team is trained to distinguish between residual outdoor fire smells and odors associated with tobacco products inside the cabin" and the charges stand. I once again called to speak to a manager and one is not available. I am supposed to receive a call back "later." To be clear, this is not about the actual nominal charge, it is being charged when we do not smoke and are being accused of smoking cigarettes or other tobacco products inside the cabin when in fact it was fire smoke, without the benefit of asking for any details from the customer.

SME is the kind of place that's so special, you want to keep it all to yourself, but can't help but…read moretell everyone you know about it! It is the coziest little getaway in Luray situated on an absolutely beautiful property. There are five cabins in total that are intended to be a couple's getaway, so the property is always very quiet and peaceful. It feels very connected to nature- we've seen deer very close to each of the structures when we've stayed. We've had the pleasure of staying in the Dragonfly, Bumblebee, and Ladybug cabins and have really enjoyed each one- they all have a similar feel but are built slightly differently. This time around, we were in the Bumblebee cabin, which is quite spacious and shares a structure with the Dragonfly cabin. There was a gas fireplace and a TV downstairs where we spent most of our time reading; there was also a couch upstairs in the hallway outside of the bedroom, and a cute balcony we probably would have spent time on if it was warmer! It is absolutely the kind of place where you can just stay in your cabin the entire time you're there, but it's also located pretty close to Sperryville and downtown Luray if you're looking to venture out. To fully take advantage of SME, I'd recommend bringing your own food or groceries to cook- there's not a whole lot close by (which is part of the charm!), but the kitchen is well-equipped with a microwave, oven, and stovetop. There's a pizza place that delivers right to the cabins, which is nice- honestly, the pizza isn't very good, but it's nice to have the option. There are also bottles of wine available for purchase in your cabin, which is nice to have available. You won't meet two nicer people than the owners of SME, Karen and Ralph. It is so clear how much they love SME and sharing their love of the property, which reflects their travels through Europe, with those who stay there. There will always be a delicious baked treat from Karen waiting in your cabin when you arrive, and if you're lucky, she or Ralph will show you around the property and tell you about the structures, all of which were built by Ralph and designed by them both. They are so friendly and kindhearted and make it such a special place to stay. As just one example- it snowed one of the nights we stayed, and Ralph cleared off our car without us even asking. SME feels so calm and peaceful- it's a true VA oasis. We're already planning our next trip back!
