The lady at the bar was friendly. The owner was okay...for there only being two customer vehicles here and just the other two customers besides us it was kind of a cold welcome. Worth a stop though for some snacks and good mead! My wife and I spent the day hiking at the nearby Otter River, so this was a welcome stop. I bought a 16oz etched glass bottle of Mazer mead, and another of the "Master" flavor. As somebody who has made hundreds of gallons of my own mead, the flavors were really unique. Varying alcohol content too if you're looking for something heavier (or lighter). I wouldn't suggest buying more than one "growler", as they were just etched glass bottles. Having grown up raising honey bees, it's really cool to see a place like this where the mission is to endorse honey and happy times with the mead bees help make. If you want a Quentin Tarantino feel and you're in the area, check it out! I'd like to give 4/5 stars but for a small business like this I'll send a little love

Beautiful campsites, excellent swimming pool, lake swimming, horseshoes, fishing, and an excellent store with wonderful staff like Stevie and Peggy working there. Garbage is by the gate and the gated campground was nice. It was super dog friendly and our three dogs enjoyed their stay as well. They have dog waste collection bags on the campground at stations throughout. Fish bait is available in the camp store. They also have a propane refilling station if you need it. They have a game room, but we never went as we wanted to unplug and enjoy our time. Close to lots of attractions such as Appomattox Courthouse and James River State Park. I highly recommend this campground and hopefully, if you read this, we'll be back and we can enjoy it with you.

It's a…read morecozy, peaceful spot but still really close to everything--you've got places like Appomattox Court House National Historical Park nearby, plus hiking at Peaks View Park, and plenty of stores and restaurants just a short drive away. The campground itself has a lot to offer... a nice pool, a stocked lake for fishing, and even a game room. I also really appreciate the easy access to campfires, which just adds to the overall experience. The grounds are beautiful with plenty of space to walk around, and the whole atmosphere is very family-friendly. What really stands out, though, are the owners. They're attentive, helpful, and genuinely pleasant to interact with, which makes a big difference. Overall, it's just a really solid, relaxing place to stay.

Our first view walking into the tipi made my heart sing. Beautifully decorated inside. It has a kitchen area with electricity. They have an electric teapot. Perfect for a spot of hot tea. I brought a cooler with plenty of frozen water in ziplock bags for cold drinks. I made cocktails every night. Next the tipi has a wood burning stove. And a whole bunch of already chopped wood. We have a wood burning stove at home so we brought paper and pine cones with a bag of sticks just to make it easy starting and keeping fires going. We needed and loved the wood burning stove. Kept us super cozy for our whole stay. The bed was super comfy and they had plenty of blankets. My favorite was the cool lighting they used. I just felt like we were in a fairytale. Outside there were chairs around a fire pit and we sat out under the gorgeous stars and made s'mores. During the day we went around town and played mini golf and tried out a few restaurants. There is lots to do around town. There is even a trail in the woods on the farm. Oh yes. When you enter the tipi they have a book you must read to know everything about your tipi experience. After that we hung out in the hammock. So calming watching the trees sway while listening to birds We like staying when it is a little chilly because there are less bugs. There is no running water. So there is an outhouse. But it is great because it is clean and has a mirror. They also have a solar shower. I'm not the biggest fan just because that water is kinda cold to me but it certainly made it a hilarious memory. My suggestion do not add much soap. I did shower every night and felt clean and refreshed after the solar shower. My husband is not a camper but he loved this. We both had a fantastic stay. Oh one last note. I prefer very quiet while sleeping so I always bring earplugs. You are in nature

We rented the "Eagles Landing" tipi for a quick MLK weekend trip. This was such a cool adventure! I…read moremean that in multiple ways, because it was also cold during our weekend. I would recommend planning your tipi weekend during warmer months, unless you're lucky enough to bring someone who will wake up every hour or two to keep the fire going when temperatures are in the teens. (Also, bring extra blankets.) I think the fire would keep the tipi pretty dang warm when temperatures are in the 30s and 40s, but below freezing you'll have to put a little more effort in to be comfortable. All of that aside- this was still a five-star experience and a memory I'll never forget! You can pull your car right up to the tipi which makes unloading things easy and convenient for locking up your valuables when you go explore. The Eagles Landing Tipi had a really comfortable queen bed and a pull out couch. I loved the decorations around the tipi. The pot belly stove gets hot enough to cook all your meals, you just may need a little bit of patience. The tipi has just about all the cookware you could need, but my travel companion/personal chef was glad he brought his own cast iron skillet. If you can see in my pictures, he was able to cook quite the feast with everything provided. Washing the dishes is a little tricky since the sink isn't very deep, but it all worked out. There is an outdoor shower and an outhouse. I've never seen an outhouse so nice though! I know that is weird to say and I forgot to get a picture. They really paid attention to detail when decorating each part of this rental. We didn't use it, but there is also a place for a fire pit outside. There isn't any wifi, but I was pleasantly surprised to have cell service all weekend. It was still more fun to be off the grid for a little bit though. The tipi is on a farm property which means there was basically a petting zoo just a short walk away. They ask that you don't go into the fenced areas, but all the animals were happy to come over to get love (or more likely to eat food if we had any to give them). There were trails to explore behind the property and lots to do in the surrounding area. Grocery stores are nearby if you forgot something and several restaurants if you don't feel like cooking. I recommend visiting the Liberty SnowFlex for a hot chocolate and front row seat to the sunset. There are a ton of trails that branch off from there as well. We did start to run low on firewood, but they were happy to bring us more before our last night. No complaints! This was such a cool, unique experience. I hope to return one day!

The home has a lot of historical value. It is actually called the The Bocock-Isbell House but on the signs at the park it is just listed as Isbelle House. I found more about it on the internet after I left the park. The Bocock-Isbell House is a structure within the Appomattox Court House National Historical Park. It was registered in the National Park Service's database of Official Structures on June 26, 1989. The Bocock-Isbell House has major importance to the Appomattox Court House National Historical Park by virtue of its association with the history and the site of General Robert E. Lee's surrender to General Ulysses S. Grant of the American Civil War. This information is shared from what I learned on the internet about the homes historical value. It was constructed in 1849 to 1850 by brothers, Thomas S. Bocock and Henry F. Bocock. Thomas was a member of the United States Congress and Speaker of the Confederate House of Representatives. At the time Henry was Clerk of the Court for Appomattox County. Lewis Daniel Isbell (1818-1889) was Appomattox County Commonwealth Attorney during the American Civil War (Judge later) and occupied the house at the time General Robert E. Lee surrendered to General Ulysses S. Grant in 1865. He was Appomattox County's representative to the Secession Convention of 1861 and voted to secede from the Union. The Bocock-Isbell House has importance because of its distinctive characteristics of a type, period, and method of construction during the nineteenth century in rural Virginia. The building with its resources associated with the Bocock-Isbell House are typical of both a county government seat ("court house") in Piedmont Virginia in the mid-nineteenth century and of a farming community in Virginia.
