I was looking for a local shop in Jamestown, NC and I came across Tim Small Automotive. My car was overheating and the engine coolant kept disappearing. I knew this may be an expensive fix and did not want to take it to the dealership and get hit over the head. I called them up and scheduled an appointment, dropped my car off, got a phone call 2 hours later with the diagnosis - a cracked coolant reservoir! These guys are honest and fair. I have taken a few cars to them over the years. Reasonable price for the types of repairs that were done. I did have a small issue with one thing , but he made it right and corrected the issue promptly. It is a small place and it may take a day or so longer than bigger shops. read more

DO NOT take your vehicle to this mechanic. I had my daughter take her car here because she was leaking coolant. She was in town from college to visit her grandparents. She had to do something and my father recommended Tim Smalls. BAD RECOMMENDATION. My dad will now not ever take his cars to him either. Communication from Tim Smalls to my father (I live out of town) about repairs needed was very poor. He never gave any prices but just went about fixing what he wanted to fix. When my daughter was presented the final bill and unknowingly signed for super inflated parts and labor charges, I am now on the hook for a 4 figure bill which should have been 1/2 of that amount. Currently in dispute with the credit card company too. Then to make matters worse After my daughter left with her car, the check engine lights came on again on her way home. I had to fly in from out of town to deal with getting these issues and look to get fixed at another mechanic that was much more reputable and actually told me what the real problems were and exactly how much it would cost. This second mechanic even confirmed that one of the items that Tim Smalls was suggesting was not even a problem at all. I am reporting him to the BBB for deceptive business practices too. read more

The less routine maintenance you perform on your vehicles, the more costly the repairs will be when you're finally able to get your vehicle in to have it fixed. In addition to the acute problem that may have caused the breaking point with your vehicle, if you haven't been performing routine maintenance, you're bound to find a lot more once you open the hood. My family and I have been taking our older model cars to Tim Small since moving to Jamestown. We've tested many different shops around this area and have compared pricing, customer, service, intelligent concern for vehicle neglect (or oversight) and most importantly ethics and integrity. There is a big difference between what we want and what our vehicle is needing us to do. Just because we're upset at paying for vehicle maintenance doesn't mean the problem is going away. Tim Small Automotive has always provided (ABOVE ALL ELSE) an intelligent and fair analysis of my vehicle's problem, what lead to it and what will need to be fixed to keep me and my family safely on the road. Do they bargain shop for the cheapest parts? No. What I do know, is they get the best. A small shop like Tim Small Automotive can't afford to put cheap parts in cars which would have certainly not allowed them to be in business for over 30 years. We are grateful that Tim is around. Not everybody will work on a Mini Cooper. He has handled all the issues we have had with it. He is nice, honest and thorough. When the car broke down the day before Easter, we had it towed in. Even though he was closed on Easter Monday, he still repaired the car so we could get it back quickly. read more
