I've been grabbing cakes from here for a while and they're always a hit!…read more The cakes are nice and moist without being too sweet, though the buttercream can be a bit much for some. I've also tried most of the pastries and they're just as good as the cakes. My favorite is the coffee éclair, it's light, airy and sweet. Honestly, I like it more than the classic éclair. The coffee flavor just takes it up a notch. The icing on top can be a little sweet on its own, but it balances out well with the whole éclair. I always grab one or two when I'm in the area. The lemon raspberry cake is another favorite. It's light with just a hint of tartness, and the poppy seeds in the cake are a nice touch. The zeppoles are perfectly light, not greasy, and just sweet enough. I've also had the vanilla and caramel cake, and it's super soft and moist. The buttercream is on the sweeter side, but it goes really well with the cake. Black forest cake is lightly sweetened and I feel like I can eat a huge slice without it being overwhelming. Overall, this bakery is awesome, with a ton of variety. They've got baked goods, sandwiches, salads, and more. Definitely worth checking out!

The cupcakes were gorgeous, taste was nothing to write home about-- a bit dry and bland. But the cheesecake was very yummy.

Wow! Stumbled across this boulangerie whilst in the area and have to say, I am truly impressed!…read more It is really a hidden gem, if I didn't see people going inside, I would never have known about it. I visited later in the day so most their famous breads and viennoiserie were sold out. The tarts however looked exquisite so I took some to try. Let me tell you, their chocolate tart is out of this world! It is everything I would want in a tart - a harder exterior shell which tastes almost like shortbread and a soft chocolate filling which isn't at all gooey. They also make the perfect Paris Brest which is difficult to come by, the praline cream is just perfection. Couldn't take any pictures this time unfortunately, it was hard to resist and the treats were devoured before I could grab my phone. I think that is a good enough reason to return!!

La Petite Boulangerie is an artisinal bakery with top-of-the-line pastries, breads, cheeses, and a variety of prepared dishes which make me drool on each visit. They are one of the bakeries which participated in le jour du croissant -- meaning their croissants are made the real French way with lots of butter and are fresh every day. I don't think I've ever had anything from here that I haven't loved, but my first love is the brioche toast topped with jam, then marzipan. Off today to get a fresh whole wheat miche so that my Thanksgiving turkey can be stuffed with delicious bready goodness.

I've ordered sandwiches, tried their pizzas, devoured their biscottis, gorged myself with their dessert pastries, etc. But the cheese Danish I got this morning was beyond amazing. The light pastry was filled with a cheese mixture that probably had some ricotta in it. Superb! The store has a variety of pastas, coffees, and other imported Italian goodies. Best of all, the counter folks are courteous, helpful. and friendly. Easy to get to from other parts of the city. The 104 and 90 bus both stop at Upper Lachine and Melrose. If you are in the mood for a sandwich at lunch or anytime, they make every sandwich fresh to order, even slicing the meats and cheeses at assembly time, with whatever condiments you wish, on their "baked in store" soft or crunchy buns or breads. Their sweets counter would rival any of the Italian bakeries in the city. Mima and her staff are friendly and always accommodating. I conveyed my disappointment and asked for another cake, but they had no other fresh cake. They offered a frozen one, but it would take 6 hours to thaw out, and I needed it for consumption in about 2 hours after I picked it up, so that was not an option. We asked if they would give us a discount, but they refused. I still kept it because I was in charge of the cake and needed to bring something. The way it was handled was completely unacceptable. It was humiliating to present, especially since this is a specialty cake and not some homemade box cake. Their customer service is definitely lacking. Given the circumstances, I believe I was entitled to some kind of compensation for the inconvenience and disappointment caused. Just wanted others to know the terrible experience I had.
