We recently had an awesome time checking out Budapest Bake Shop in Niagara on the Lake. What we…read morefound awesome was that they had these chimney cakes, which I had never heard of before but apparently originated in Transylvania. It was basically just this hollowed-out sort of stromboli or bagel, so to speak. What was really cool was that it was very crispy and delicately cooked and baked with spices on the outside while being very flaky and almost croissant-like on the inside. There were savory options and sweet options. We ended up getting the everything bagel option and it was absolutely delightful. My only regret is that we didn't buy three or four more for the road. We stumbled upon this place when we were walking around Niagara on the Lake and we were so happy we came in. When we came out eating, people passing by were asking where we got that and what it was, and around the shop everyone could be seen eating these chimney cakes. It was absolutely delightful. I loved it. You probably will as well.

Wow wow wow! This place is totally worth the hype!…read more The chimney cakes LOOK cool but taste even better. They are crispy on the outside but chewy. Absolute perfection and totally delicious. Our only regret is not getting more to take home! We tried the almond (sweet) and dill pickle (savory) and couldn't puck our favorite. They are a bit pricey but worth it!

In an area with countless cute cafes and bakeries, Niagara Juice really stands out…read more Staff is very warm, friendly and helpful. It was a warm day and I really wanted to try their green smoothie (without the banana). Despite being initially apprehensive about eliminating the "binder" in the smoothie that is banana, the lovely young man helping me was able to make the perfect smoothie without it being "slushy!" Thank you! It was delicious. Hit #1. I also tried their house made Montreal-style sesame bagel with cream cheese. Crispy outside and warm, chewy inside with a generous amount of cream cheese! Hit #2. Looks like they have a lot of beautiful baked goods to try on my next outing as well! Pro tip: they make Gluten free options!

No vegan or gluten sensitive products. But everything is made in house... with a few baked items frozen. Here's my absurd experience there. Ordering was easy. Gal pressing my OJ didn't put the cup underneath to collect the juice, so it spilled all over the counter. Without pause, she puts a cup into the spilled juice and proceeds to fill the cup with OJ. Puts a lid on it, doesn't wipe the bottom, puts it on the counter, so I go to take my juice, as I am next in line for the finished items...but some jerk rich kid in his ABERCROMBIE shirt doesn't even look up from his phone as he swipes it and waltzes out with his gf who looks like some extra from a 1948 Cary Grant high society flick. The gal(s) behind the counter watch this occur, and don't say anything. I ask HEY, ISNT THAT MY JUICE?...and without missing a beat, the server shrugs her shoulders and says THIS ONE WILL BE FOR YOU. No apology, no recognition of what occurred... she makes me one, and again, doesn't wipe up the orig spilled juice, just sticks a fresh cup into the slop and proceeds. I ask her if she's gonna wipe the bottom as she's handing it to me, and she just looks confused, and says HUH?...I grabbed my juice and left, at this point, realizing my losses and just needing to leave.

Fig, oats and walnuts; pistachios and chocolate...the thing is, the pastry/bakery chef is helpful-fixed up some cookies for us to take home and freeze; the people behind the counter couldn't have been friendlier and the whole atmosphere of yummy food in a kind and easy environment had us going back each day we were at the Shaw festival- 5 days! Will be sure to stop there first thing on our return! Deb

It was made to order which meant we had to wait 30 minutes for it to be made. But that was not a draw back. The attendant was very nice and assembled our selection on a beautiful board which he asked us to return when we were done. (No deposit necessary). We were able to select the cheeses and meats we wanted from their large selection. They also had a vegan cheese which was actually very tasty. While we waited a member of our party went down the street to the grocery store and bought a few add ons to our meal; smoked salmon and hummus. Including the add ons we bought at the grocery store the grazing box was more than enough food. My only regret was that we didn't have more crackers. I feel that for the 3 cheeses we definitely could have used more crackers or a baguette. Overall I was very happy and would recommend everyone to visit, grab a board for a picnic or even a gift. *Star deduction only because there wasn't enough crackers.
