I visited later in the day so most their famous breads and viennoiserie were sold out. The tarts however looked exquisite so I took some to try. Let me tell you, their chocolate tart is out of this world! It is everything I would want in a tart - a harder exterior shell which tastes almost like shortbread and a soft chocolate filling which isn't at all gooey. They also make the perfect Paris Brest which is difficult to come by, the praline cream is just perfection. Couldn't take any pictures this time unfortunately, it was hard to resist and the treats were devoured before I could grab my phone. I think that is a good enough reason to return!!

They are one of the bakeries which participated in le jour du croissant -- meaning their croissants are made the real French way with lots of butter and are fresh every day. I don't think I've ever had anything from here that I haven't loved, but my first love is the brioche toast topped with jam, then marzipan. The light pastry was filled with a cheese mixture that probably had some ricotta in it. Superb! The store has a variety of pastas, coffees, and other imported Italian goodies. Best of all, the counter folks are courteous, helpful. and friendly. Easy to get to from other parts of the city. The 104 and 90 bus both stop at Upper Lachine and Melrose. We asked if they would give us a discount, but they refused. I still kept it because I was in charge of the cake and needed to bring something. The way it was handled was completely unacceptable. Given the circumstances, I believe I was entitled to some kind of compensation for the inconvenience and disappointment caused. Just wanted others to know the terrible experience I had.
