A good place for students from what we saw, you can stay there for hours to study and to do your work. Not exactly the cleanest place to eat in general, so I don't recommend the food, it is all pre-packaged and the food in the glass refrigerator on display have many little fruit flies. I've seen this all over so this didn't surprise me here. So that was a major turn off. Overall it's a good place for a coffee or tea, not more than that.

I was in the Vaudreuil-Dorion area and decided to get an iced black tea before I headed off to shop. I did a quick search and found this cafe. I decided to check out the drive-thru. She made sure that there wasn't any lemonade in my drink, which I appreciated without any prompting! There is a lot of parking. I parked briefly just to take a picture of the cafe's entrance. The Long Version: This location is inside the Gare Centrale (Central Station) were the VIA, Amtrak and commuter trains are. We were at the train station dropping off our luggage for the day since we had to check out of our hotel but our train home wasn't until later that afternoon. The hubby is a coffee fiend, so needed his coffee fix, even though he literally just had a coffee when we left the hotel, lol. Anyway, he got this second cup of the day at Second Cup. How fitting, haha. He said it was fine. Better than the Cafe Brossard coffee at the hotel, but nothing remarkable. I had a sip and agreed. Service was courteous and efficient. The ambiance is quite nice. It's spacious and fits the overall train station vibe. Review #214 (2025)

It shares some of the walkways and passages in Place Bonaventure with other food and drink establishments. For starters, I like Second Cup more than I do Starbucks. It doesn't have as much hype and branding. It seems lower key. However, on this particular visit, the service ran a little more aloof and they weren't crowded. Also, I prefer their selection of desserts. I went in to get something to eat and to do so in the dining area. I settled on a big cup of hot tea and a hefty slice of chocolate cake. While far from nutritionally balanced or healthy, that might have been dinner. However, in Montreal, using transit is always accompanied by walking - how much is up to you - and that can help counter those calories. Second Cup is a Canadian coffeehouse chain. Per the maxim "when in Rome," I try to patronize Canadian establishments when in Canada, be they stand-alone or chain entities. I will only go to Starbucks outside the U.S. if all the stars line up in its favor, so to speak. I've always had good to excellent experiences at Second Cup and, with the dynamic hustle and bustle of Gare Centrale and the Financial District, this is a nice store in which to sit, eat and drink, people watch (which never disappoints in Montreal), and do some laptop or "to do list" time.

It can be a real pain when you're in a hurry to get somewhere like, you know, work. Service: It's been hit or miss for me. Sometimes you get a friendly smile and sometimes you get Mr. or Ms. Crankypants. The service is slow and it doesn't always look like these guys have an organized system in place to process orders during peak times. Coffee: Personally, I have a mad dislike for their drip coffee. It's just gross. That said, their specialty coffees are nice - I like their Mocha and their Chai tea latte, and in comparison to Second Cup, they do make a great (regular) latte. If you're lactose-free, you can ask for soy, though there is a charge. Funny, since soy is usually cheaper than regular milk. Other stuff: I don't know who makes their brownies but they are damn good. Damn good I tell you! I do sometimes take a detour just to get one. As far as their other 'goodies' go, not so much of a fan. Also, they have coconut water and that makes me happy. I also love their Tazo Giant Peach and Green Tea bevvies. You can find those bottled up in the refrigerated section. I had to double-check this because previously, only Bell subscribers seemed to be able to access their wifi network for free, but according to their web site, they now offer free access to anyone and everyone. Definite perk. They finally built a deck (maybe 2 summers ago?) right out on McGill, so you can sit back and enjoy your non-drip specialty coffee on a nice sunny day. Great place to people watch. The music doesn't suck. I rated this a 2 because of the crowds and slow service, and because I won't go out of my way to go to a Starbucks if I have another option.
