Tim Hortons is a big Canadian coffee chain, founded in the 1960's by a hockey player of the same name, recently this brand came to the UK, it came into Manchester across multiple branches and it came to the UK as a whole in the Summer of 2017, with their Glasgow store opening. People often associate a new year with a new beginning, and new experiences which is why I feel Tim Hortons in Altrincham is the perfect place for my 1st review in 2018, which happens to be my 1856th review on Yelp as a whole.
This branch only opened days ago, it opened on December 27th, visiting on New Years Day 2018, it was only days from the launch until my visit, and my excitement to see Tim Hortons opening stores in the UK and then in Manchester seemed to be short-lived after visiting this store i'm sorry to report.
My first impressions of the store were not very good, it felt more like a fast food chain than a coffee-shop and the overall feel of the store certainly wasn't too comfortable and pleasant.
The store does have free wi-fi, which is some of the fastest I've ever seen when out of my home in a coffee shop for example, I was able to browse the internet with ease and I even managed to get upload speeds of over 50 megabits per second.
When I did eventually get served, the staff member seemed a little cautious, he didn't seem too friendly, I ended up ordering a Vanilla Iced Capp, once again the commercialised nature of this place shown and it felt more like a fast food chain, I wasn't identified by name, but a number being called out, it felt like a rushed experience rather than the true feel you should get by a coffee shop, I was a number not a person and that isn't a metaphor.
The quality of my drink was dreadful, I found it to be a thick, sickly, sugary mess and I didn't drink it, despite the cheap price of £2.99, making it cheaper than most rivals, for the quality it really didn't live up to expectations.
Other than the super fast free-wif, which even has its drawbacks being limited to just one hour, I'm struggling to find any other positives around this store mainly down to
1. A commercialised feel
2. It feels more like a major fast food joint, like a Mcdonald's rather than a coffee shop.
3. Poor service
4. Awful beverage quality (I even found the espresso in the latte to be a little poor too, it simply didn't stand out at all or at least in a good way...)
With regret, a place I looked forward to trying for so long sadly deserves a single one-star rating, and I feel it is a shame to start 2018 on Yelp for myself having to dish out a low rating first yet sadly it needs to be done. read more
