This was a planned stop for me while in Charlottetown (I was on a trail of Canadian coffee!) and I'm glad I made it. On my first of two visits, there seemed to be a lot of cruise ship passengers, just relaxing from traipsing through Charlottetown, a really fun place to spend time. On an early spring day, the cafe mocha was welcome and the sunny seats outside were clean and comfortable. Second visit a week later, the same delicious drinks, sandwiches, breakfast plates, acai bowls and a short kids menu from which I ordered a "baby bun". Ham, cheese, sourdough? Wasted on kids, it was yum! It's rustic and welcoming, the customer service was pretty good considering all the tourists alongside me, no doubt taxing the baristas' patience! If you find yourself in Charlottetown, make it a stop to relax and recharge with a drink and a snack!

The caramelized onions and cheese on the french toast alongside the maple syrup made for a very good sweet and savoury flavour kick -- if you don't eat much, you could definitely share since I had trouble finishing it! The mochaccino was also not too sweet and had a good balance between coffee and chocolate, I could see why it was so busy on a Sunday morning so come early if you can :) There's a variety of seating (outdoor and by the fireplace as well) and the ambiance was lively.

We enjoyed the adjoining shop and their selection of jams and spread. The wait was worth it! The room is a bright large room overlooking the river. Handmade quilts hang from the ceiling. We started with nachos, that had the right blend of cheese and toppings. Unfortunately there were no side plates brought, causing us to eat like animals from a common trough. A slight mishap with a spilled glass of water interrupted our otherwise pleasant appetizer. The server's attention was less than prompt causing us to get extra napkins from directly behind the counter. Still, we soldiered on and prepared for the main feast. The seafood chowder was one of the better ones all trip. Fresh and flavourful pieces in a cream broth, served with a fresh side biscuit. The real opportunity is to highlight the delicious jams and spreads from the shop which would add some much needed flavour to the biscuits. Other meals included kids pasta, kids jam sandwich, a club sandwich, fish cakes and a Caesar salad. All were promptly devoured. A great location with fresh food and pleasant service. Worth the wait!
