My wife suggested Cows ice cream as she has been to PEI many times. Macy was the person who took care of my order and she was amazing! Very courteous and kind. There was a long line in this little store that the staff moved along very quickly And we were all grateful for that. I ordered the PEI blueberry ice cream and maple walnut. I first saw a Cows ice cream shop in Quebec (our loft was above one) - then came to PEI and during our tour , our guide said that Cows originated here and is now all over Canada. Well damn. That said, we had to try Cows. It was some great ice cream. And the awesome cow merch and cow puns galore make this such a cool and unique place! So many amazing flavors (mostly cow puns) , it puts Baskin Robbin's to shame , and their waffle cones were to die for! I had the Cookie Moonster - so creamy , and not overly sweet like a lot of ice cream places tend to be. $5.95 CAD for a single scoop waffle cone and $1 CAD more for double scoop. Yes please! I was in PEI during a port stop on a cruise and the tour guide mentioned, COWS. Immediately I wanted to go and I'm so glad I did. COWS not only has a great vibe to it, but the ice cream is also really good too! They have tons of flavors like birthday cake, brownie explosion, coffee, bubble gum, peach melba, and wowie cowie- just to name a few. Service was great. I ordered shake of PEI blueberry since PEI is known for their blueberries. It could have been a tiny bit sweeter in terms of the blueberries, but overall, it was really creamy and delicious. They have a giant cow for you to take photos with- no, the cow is not real. And connected to it is a COWS shop where you can buy various apparel and other goods. This was our last trip to Cows, and the third overall during our time here this year! Options here are more limited than the Cavendish location, but the classic flavours are still available. My sister ordered a plain vanilla on a waffle cone. Although she did enjoy it, she did find the vanilla flavour to be quite muted and not very prominent. I got the chocolate flavour in a cup, with the cone on the side. The chocolate is my favourite so far! There's a rich cocoa flavour, but you still get the creaminess of the ice cream. By getting the cone on the side, however, I did notice that the waffle is actually slightly stale. It tastes crispy when you have it with the ice cream inside, but that's presumably because the softness of the ice cream brings out the hardness of the cone. That said, when you sample them separately, you notice that the waffle cone isn't really that crispy. After having Cows multiple times, the novelty really does fade. It's actually quite overpriced. This place is way overrated. Small ice cream portions that are each weighed on scale ; what a ripoff - really, in a premium priced ice cream store. Small scoops. Rather than have a place for folks to sit, they devote half their space to selling kitschy advertising stuff that did not have any sales while I was there. I had to try this place after hearing so many good things about it. I had really high expectations for the ice cream. I ordered the PEI strawberry and my mom got the PEI blueberry. The strawberry ice cream tasted good, though I was expecting it to taste even better based on all the hype. My mom was very happy with the blueberry flavour and she said there were whole chunks of blueberries in there. The strawberry tasted very similar to the one by Haagen Dazs. So delicious. This Canadian institution certainly lives up to the hype. I had many, many ice creams from Cow's on my last work trip...to the tune of two double cones a day for three days straight. #noshameinmygame My approach was to go for all the flavours that wouldn't be available anywhere else. I normally am a huge cookies and cream + mint chocolate fan, but you could get that anywhere, so I didn't go for those. Of the flavours I tried, my absolute fave was PEI Blueberry. It's a very subtle flavour, and it's so light and delicious. I also really enjoyed PEI Strawberry - I could taste how fresh the berries were! I loved Cowconut Cream Pie as well - it's wonderful because it tastes like real coconuts, as opposed to cheap flavouring. And the other one I'd highly recommend is the Bessie's Pumpkin Patch - cinnamon and brown sugar deliciousness, with a hint of pumpkin. The prices are reasonable but I was disappointed by the flavour selection. Nothing particularly creative. The coconut one I had was pretty good but I went back a few days later for pistachio and was very disappointed. I couldn't taste the flavour at all. I've had pistachio gelato and ice cream at many places and this was the worst one. Personally I think there is too much hype for this place. This ice cream is soooo creamy! It's super fresh and smooth tasting. I personally am picky about ice cream. I rarely ever eat ice cream from a carton in the grocery store, that's how picky! I judged this place by its chocolate and vanilla flavors. To me all ice cream should be judged by its most basic flavor options to know if it's really good. These flavors were spot on! You don't need anything extra when you have a perfect scoop of creamy chocolate. We also tried the Fluff and Utter and moosie-something (forgot the name). Fluff and Utter was chocolate ice cream with marshmallow fluff and peanut butter cups. The other was cheesecake ice cream with Oreos and chocolate syrup. These were good but less impressive. They tasted great!! However they didn't really taste much like their mix ins. I barely noticed the marshmallow in one, and couldn't taste the cheesecake flavor in the cheesecake ice cream. It was probably more like vanilla ice cream. These ice creams still tasted great, we ate every bite, but what's 5-star worthy here is how creamy and perfect their basics are. The idea of having more "creative" stuff I think can turn too gimmicky and takes away from the quality anyway. If we come to PEI again, we will definitely stop for Cows ice cream! read more

Sure, it's fantastic ice cream. Especially the Chocolate Cheesecake. But $4.50+ for a single scoop of ice cream that disappears into the depths of a cone? Wow. Believe it or not, the staff has to carefully weigh each filled cone on a scale before giving it to the customer. That's just stingy. Hey, Cows, how about you maybe relax and cool it on trying to maximize your profits by reducing serving sizes and micro-managing your staff? Oh, and I was in line at the Charlottetown wharf location when a store manager instructed an underling, rather loudly, to clean some aspect of the waffle-cone maker, pointing out that it hadn't been cleaned in over a week. So, suffice to say, I didn't get a waffle cone. This is a food review, so I shouldn't really comment the dozens of Cows t-shirts with horrible cow-related puns on them. But I'm going to. First, they are truly awful puns, and second, they walk right up to infringing on other people's copyrights. So, doubly cringey. I don't usually go out and buy ice cream from a shop except when I'm on vacation. I couldn't resist having some from COWS. I first saw a COWS a few years ago in Halifax and also went to the one in Banff but had never tried their ice cream. This time I couldn't resist on a lovely evening in Charlottetown. The smell of the fresh waffle cones draw people to the shop. There were about 25-30 flavours and I chose the mint oreo in a cup. It was delicious and not too rich. I wished I could have a cone the next day but was too full from my dinner. I'm glad they don't have a COWS in Edmonton because I wouldn't be able to resist! I think they do a cute parody of current pop culture... in stock today are things like MooMooLemon, MooTube, Fifty Shades of Hay, Moodern Cowfare, etc... Their ice cream is great - fresh ingredients made with real cream and milkfat and a nice variety of flavors. Loved the chocolate cheesecake and the burnt sugar flavors... came in twice this trip since it's so good! You can choose from regular waffle cones or dipped cones and the number of scoops you want. Starts at just under $4 for a single scoop + plain waffle cone and goes up from there. I've never had bad ice cream from Cows and it's nice to have it in its PEI hometown. read more
