The huge cow outside the store is the first to greet you. Next, the employees greet you upon entering the gift shop. There's a huge selection of printed t-shirts, sweatshirts, sweatpants, socks, pyjama pants, plushies, magnets, keychains, snacks/chocolates, and more. Just past the gift shop there's a self-guided factory tour. It starts with a video, then there's a wall of classic t-shirt designs you can get printed in the size and colour of your choosing, a room filled with rounds of cheese, and another where the staff are hard at work. In terms of the ice cream they have reviews that say it's the best in the world so we definitely had to try. We got the PEI apple crisp with a waffle cone. We found it to be too sweet and not the best that we've had but that could've just been that we chose the wrong flavour. read more

Great place for a cone or a sundae. It would be nice if they had indoor seating to get out of the weather. After all ice cream is still good when the weather isn't. I was hoping the would have moved some production to the new building and put tables where the retail is. The retail could move further back in the building. read more

It's kind of fun walking around the shop and 'behind the scenes'. The ice-cream is not even close to being good.

A stop at this ice cream shop was part of our bus tour. I tried the maple walnut flavor and it was pretty good , but I couldn't say it was memorable. I love how the line moved pretty fast , considering the number of flavors available ! There is also a gift shop, where they sell clothes, snacks which was quite interesting. I bought a small container of chocolate covered chips and am looking forward to it. Even though it might not be the best ice cream I had , I would recommend to anyone looking for a snacks for the road :) read more

This location is my favourite because of the amount of merchandise and the fact that you can get a custom t-shirt with some of their discontinued popular designs. They also have a small theatre to watch a video about the history of cows and you can see where they make their cheeses! Although the self-tour of the Cows creamery was lack-lustre, the ice cream was not. The generous scoops, reasonable price for the quality, and variety of interesting flavours were LEGEN-DAIRY! Here were my favourites: -Nanaimoo Bar (custard ice cream with a hint of coconut, chocolate sauce, & crispy waffle pieces) -PEI Blueberry (authentic light blueberry sweetness) -Strawberry Sorbet (real strawberry sweetness with some pulp) -I also sampled Gooey Mooey & Wowie Cowie, but I personally find the the vanilla & toffee flavours too sweet TIP#1: No extra cost for their in-house freshly made waffle cone. It was thick & crunchy and tasted to me like vanilla & almond. TIP#2: Ask to sample some flavours, the staff are super nice about it. TIP#3: You can do half scoops to try 2 flavours instead of 1 in your scoop. The staff also weigh their scoops to make sure they give each customer a consistent amount. All this creamy smooth & quality ice cream for $5 a scoop is amazing !!! Definitely will keep my eye out for more Cows locations in Canada to get my PEI ice cream fix :) read more

We had to stop by for icecream here, even though we didn't have dinner yet. The layout is similar to all their other franchises, but they do have an extra 'factory tour' area, where you walk yourself through a short video and then look at the different windows that peer onto their various production lines. Of course, the main attraction is the icecream. We got the Wowie Cowie and the Chip Chip Hooray. Very good clean vanilla base with the added flavor and texture from the additions. There are some patio chairs outside along the boardwalk, so I would recommend getting the icecream and going for a walk around as you eat it (as long as it's not too hot outside!). read more

Cows is a must and a family favourite whenever we road trip to PEI! I was a little sad, however, to find that things have changed since then. In the past, they offered a free guides tour with complimentary samples of cheese and ice cream, but in an assumed effort to cut costs, the "tour" is self guided and much less informative than before. We each got our own ice cream cone, served in their rich and fragrant waffle cones. After sampling the PEI Blueberry and PEI Strawberry, I ultimately settled on the strawberry flavour (the server said that it was his preference of the two). The strawberry flavour was nice, and made from real strawberries! I did, however, find it slightly too milky... My sister got the cookie moonster, an adorable blue scoop filled with goodies such as Oreo bits and cookie dough. Made to resemble the Cookie monster from Sesame Street, it was quite nice! Dad got the coffee flavour, which was very rich in coffee taste. Mom defaulted to her favourite Wowie Cowie. Yum! read more

Our second stop at COWS, but our previous one was at the pier. We arrived at the same time as a bus tour. Even without the bus, it is a busy place. Souvenir shop aside, here is our thoughts on the ice cream place. The good: Ice Cream just as good. Lots of useful and busy staff. Lots of parking space. The bad: Staff in a hurry to make you leave, it's like a factory in there. Not as generous as the pier. Only two scoops instead of three. The pier version is more friendly and more generous. I went to Cows on Capital Drive ... this is their head office and where they make their ice cream and teeshirts. They have a self-guided tour. You can watch a video. They weren't making any ice cream today. They weren't printing any teeshirts either. I've bought a few of their teeshirts over the years ... pictures of some of the ones I bought years ago were on the wall. I've been to all the Cows locations but one (the Northumberland Ferry location). Do I get bonus points for being in the Vancouver location which is no longer there? You can buy teeshirts, pajamas, mugs, postcards, etc. I got a double scoop of Fluff 'n Udder in a cup. Yum! read more

We're big fans of COWS ice cream. It's yummy good, and really, what else do you need to know? The factory store is located here, and in addition to dozens of flavors (yes, we're dullards and always wind up ordering the chocolate, but everyone around us was raving about the strawberry) available you can take a free behind-the-scenes production tour. There's not much to it -- a movie and watching people work -- but it's a pleasant family activity. The store has more comedic cow tee-shirts than you imagined might exist on any one planet, much less on one small island on that planet. This place was really busy. The lines went out the doors during summer. But the wait is totally worth it. Love their ice cream here ! One of the best ice cream I've had. Their ice cream is rich and cream. The fruit flavour ones here are sweet but not an overdose on sugar. My favourite flavours are the pei strawberry and pei blueberry and the birthday cake. They pei strawberry and blueberry are absolutely delicious. The birthday cake is on the sweeter side as it has blue syrup inside the ice cream but still really good. I've also tried the wowie cowie and pistachios. The wowie cowie I didn't like it too much. This one was really sweet and something just felt off. As for the pistachio, i was ok but I've tried better. The sea salt caramel was also pretty good. It's was sweet yet salty which gave it an unique flavour to it. You can order the ice creams on cones, in cups, as milkshakes or in a tub to go. They have tubs of ice cream you can buy. They allow you to mix multiple flavours in one tub. This is a good chance to try multiple flavours. Additionally, they have a lot to cow merchandises. They have cow plushies, cow cups, cow clothing, and etc. They also sell their cow branded cheese. This place is a really big tourist attraction so they have a mini self tour of the ice cream factory to entertain tourists. You can see behind the scenes of how they make ice cream and cheese if you follow the self tour. Overall, if you're visiting PEI, this place is a must try !!! read more

I love Cows Ice Cream! While on PEI, I visited several Cows locations to keep my Cows Ice Cream craving in check and to purchase some Cows merchandise at 25 percent off (season end sales). A visit to PEI would not be complete without taking the Cows Creamery Factory Tour, which runs every 30 minutes (Jun-Aug)/hour (Sep-Oct) at the Cows Creamery head office at the PEI Factory Shops, which also has the Cows retail store and ice cream shop. Last weekend, I decided to take the Cows Creamery Factory Tour, which was $6 plus taxes (under $7 total) per adult and you get to wear a neat paper hat for the tour. The hat is "Made in the USA"-yayyy! The tour group met inside the store and the tour guide was wearing a cool purple Cows Creamery Factory Tour shirt. We were given a sample of the Cows chocolate covered potato chips as we entered the back area. On the 30 minute tour, we learned about the history and culture of Cows Creamery, as well as the manufacturing processes of their "moo-rific" Cows t-shirts, extra old cheddar cheese making (partnership with ADL), and their moo-tastic Cows Ice Cream. Still photography is allowed, but no video recording is allowed. We watched a few "behind the scenes" videos as we walked by the manufacturing (factory) areas behind glass windows. At the time of our tour (except for one employee folding new t-shirts), no one was making t-shirts, ice cream, or cheese. The ice cream making area was already broken down and cleaned up for the season. We were given samples of aged cheddar cheese and a small paper cup with Gooey Mooey ice cream, yummy! The Cows Ice Cream is very dense, rich, and creamy with less than 20 percent air. The wall in the ice cream sampling room had images on posters of the creative colourful Cows t-shirts sold over the years. My favourites are Moogaritaville, The Cowprentice, Steerbucks Coffee, SpongeCow SquareMoo, Pokecow, Indiana Moo, Lizzie Mooguire, Scooby Moo, and many others. I bought a Hannah Mootana baby tee as a gag gift on my last visit to PEI. I only wished they made a "Selena Moomez" t-shirt (does not exist, just a thought) to complement those popular "Justin Beefer" t-shirts. In the store, they also had Moo Direction and "I'm Mooey and I Know It" (LMFAO) t-shirts on sale. After the tour, I got myself a Double Scoop of Mocha Almond Fudge ($4.75 plus taxes) in a cone before heading off PEI to New Brunswick. I would like to take the Factory Tour again, but will return earlier in the summer season on a weekday to see the manufacturing processes live in action. read more

I found the retail merchandise at the store, like T-shirts etc. much better than the ice-cream.... I think that should say a lot. The four of us got double scoops so we tried quite a few of their flavors and were not impressed with any of them, which actually surprised me because we read their board post of being one of the best ice-creams in the world and they listed a few other countries on it too. (All 4 cows jumped over the moon with this tourist trap and decided to try them). We got a mix of their "Moo" flavors as well as local PEI specials of blueberry, raspberry and strawberry. Didn't opt for their tour so can't say much about that....had a much better time at the store next door, Anne of Green Gables Chocolates. read more

If you're whole intention is to see where it's made and you end up at the creamery... Well, there's not much to say. In addition to the factory, it's also a huge store where you have access to more than you ever thought you needed of branded Cows merchandise. The 'tour' itself is basic, yet free. You'll watch a short movie, and head into two rooms to see production. It's nothing to write home about, but mildly interesting at the same time. I was more fascinated about how they made the t-shirts than the ice cream.. Just OK. Save yourself the drive and have some ice cream in the city instead. read more

I wasn't a fan. The whole place feels super corporate/commercialized. The ice cream portion was very small for the price, they even measure it on scales. The flavour was underwhelming. The staff there looked tired, like they didn't want to be there. For a more authentic island ice cream experience, I recommend Holman's in Summerside. read more

I've been to Cows in Niagara on the Lake but I didn't know it is actually based in PEI. This shop is the flagship and it's really nice and has a little mini behind the scenes factory tour - it's more like you can see the employees work at the back. They have the usual merchandise with funny cow jokes. The ice cream of course is superb as usual! The strawberry ice cream is a delight and it was one of the best I've ever eaten, now whenever I visit again I'll want to get it! read more

Came here for the Cows Creamery Factory Tour. The tour consisted of an introductory video and 4 stops: t-shirt making, ice cream making, cheese making, and the sampling room. It seems that their primary business was t-shirt making, as it was mentioned on the tour that they only make ice cream about 50 days out of the year. This means you only have about a 1 in 7 chance of actually seeing them make ice cream on your factory tour. There are videos shown at each of the stops explaining the manufacturing process; however, I thought this was disappointing since you normally go to a factory tour to see the machines in operation, and the videos they showed could've easily been placed on their website for public viewing. In the sampling room, you do get to see all the t-shirt designs that they have created over the years, as well as try some of the ice cream, which they say has only 20 percent air. This makes their ice cream rich and creamy, whereas other brands could put more air to save costs, but wouldn't taste as good. Besides the factory tour area, they also have a retail area where they sell all sorts of Cows memorabilia and the ice cream area where you can get your fix. Also in the parking lot outside in the grass, there is a large cow and a sign which you can have your picture taken with. read more

Let's be honest, Cows is a T-shirt factory first, and an ice cream parlor second. Both this as well as the downtown Charlottetown location devote more floor space to merchandise than to ice cream. Quite annoying is the large "factory tours" sign outside - it's misleading - the "self tour" isn't much. The ice cream is great though... Only stop to eat or buy a T-shirt. Holy Cows! They are #1 for a reason! Gooey Mooey was my choice both times we stopped. Sure wish they were in Florida!

The smell of the waffle cones (definitely some almond extract in there) is what kept pulling us in. I think their reputation is more hyped up than anything.
