It's not touristy at all, which is the reason why I like going every time I visit but might put you off if you go in expecting it to be. All in all, it's exactly what it says in its name - an ultra-dive bar where you're bound to make a new friend or two, hear hyperlocal city gossip, and have the bartender tell you a story about getting into a fight with a pigeon at a bus stop. Highly recommend their Dark and Stormy and Twisted Palmer cocktails. Side note, on a long enough timeline you'll hear from someone else at least once about how ridiculously short their bathroom stall is - can confirm, as I am 5'7 on a good day and was taller than it.

They have several TVs in both the front and back rooms, as well as darts, pinball machines, and pool tables in the back room. Also, for the amount of lighting fixtures they had hanging from the ceiling, the light show was so sub par that I can't even put it into words. They need to hire a lighting director, or have the acts provide their own. All 3 bands I saw on Sunday made comments and complained over the mic that the lights were just blinding them. Piss poor production. And don't even get me started on the sound quality. We left half way through the headlining act because all I could focus on was a high pitched feedback that was never attended to by the sound crew. Just sad.

But now here I was in Pittsburgh struggling in near-freezing conditions and without Jamie. I was staying the night at the Hyatt House down the street and decided to brave the cold to come here. Mind you, it was a weeknight, and the place was fairly empty at around 8PM. I remember there were three guys at the end of the bar and a couple of loudish girlfriends blathering on about the lack of available men in Pittsburgh. Struck me they were minimizing their chances in looking for them here. I just sat at the bar waiting for the bartender to show up and probably would've left had it not been cold. Besides, it wasn't like I was in WeHo where I could just go next door. He finally arrived and took my order, the $5 Tequila Sunrise (Photo 9). Definitely a nice price, and he mixed it with the right potency. A little chit-chat would've been nice, especially as an out-of-towner, but alas, this was not a Tokyo mama-san snack bar.
