I've had ehhhh and not great experiences at Jimmy D's before, especially late at night. However, we stopped by twice in the early evening to try their Coquette Christmas cocktails. The inside was beautifully decorated with bows galore. We stayed on the first floor and it was very chill in the early evening because there were never more than a handful of people there besides us. Our bartender was friendly and efficient and the pop up cocktails surprisingly good for what they were and very reasonably priced. You can tell that they really tried and I would be willing to come back (albeit in the early evening again). read more

Went here for Halloween, it was good! Wasn't too busy, and the bartenders were nice, kind of young to be bartenders it seemed, but we had a good time. They were kinda of pushy about water and hesitant to give us more drinks, which was not really what you want from your first spot of the night. It was kind of a small spot, It was good but not my favorite bar of the night. I didn't experience what was listed in the other comments, but it wasn't busy when I went. I would give them a shot, more of a dive bar feel. read more

Not sure why this place gets such a bad rap. It's a club that boasts more mainstream and trashy music, which may not be for everyone. The style of the club is definitely more street and less refined, but it's certainly a place you can have fun if you're not looking to have too much personal space or good service. Drinks usually have plenty of alcohol, shots are big, and overall drinks aren't too expensive. Only complaint is that there is no free water -- you have to buy bottled water. Love Jimmy D's! It just gets so crowded!!! I'm glad they remodeled it to accommodate more people, and they've started actually counting everyone that goes in. There is a different DJ upstairs and downstairs on a busy night, and the drinks are very reasonable. The atmosphere is very laid back, and everyone is just there to have a good time. This is definitately one of my favorite bars in Pittsburgh. read more

Meanwhile, women with 99 cent flip flops are allowed in because they are "thong sandals". Honestly, don't waste your time waiting in this line. So here's the thing. Jimmy D's is full of gross gross men and a gross gross floor. It's so sticky. also, no matter what you do, a guy will always come up behind you and try to start grinding on you. Literally like a bunch of guys just stand up along the sides with their hands out at the waists waiting to grab onto a girls butt and start grinding on her. Skip this bar. Sure it's a dance club and is always playing good music, but good luck getting in. They have a dress code that makes zero sense. First of all, there is no dress code list. Once you wait in line and get IDed, security will let you know. Second, security is VERY inconsistent with this dress code. For example, supposedly patrons are not allowed to wear ripped jeans, high top shoes, sandals, tank tops, etc. BUT if you are a skinny white girl and security likes you, you're in regardless of dress. Another example: I went out with a group of friends. A male friend had a tank and high tops on. He was immediately denied access. Right up front I have to dock a star for smoking. Ew. Gross! It needs to just be all non smoking....oh to go home and not smell like an ash tray! Jimmy D's was WAY different back in the day when I went there. I knew it had good music...but it had been a while. I'm not a house music type of girl, I need some down and dirty jams! So going to Villa first was a total bust. Not a house music fan. This place plays the good stuff. Lots of Rap, R & B and old school jams! The stuff you can get down with! Since I'm a total old head now, I want to hear some Biggie mixed with some LMFAO and some dirty Dougie tunes! You'll find that all here. The drinks are CHEAP cheap cheap here, with well drinks and domestic beers being under $3...YES! I get grumpy if I have to pay over $5 for anything in the Burgh! So I'm into this. The ONLY weird thing was that the floor upstairs shook with every bounce and step. It was pretty dead when we got there, but once everyone was on the dance floor, it was bouncing pretty hard. I mean, if the floor gave way, they'd be a lot of good lawsuits going...so hopefully that doesn't happen....but I'd say it's a little weird to feel the floor shake below you...I guess that's the price you pay for the good jams... read more

Meh. While it's a cool bar (upstairs) with a good DJ, overall it's not the same that it used to be. Dress code is odd and horrible. There's not even a sign explaining it. So I'll give u the 411.... No camo t-shirts, pants... Anything No vests at all.. denim, puffer ect No high top shoes? Like converse?! I totally understand safety.... but they don't even pat you down or wand you. If you want to be about safety, start there. Also, bouncer doesn't tell u about the dress code until you're at the door. He saw my friend ina camo t-shirt and I walk up. He said "the line is that way". We waited in like for 15 minutes then once at the door he said "no camo " Dress code is weird and makes no sense. Please do not support Jimmy D's. The bouncer did not allow access to my girlfriend because she is deaf and did not hear his question. Upon telling him of her condition, he only got more offensive and threatened to call the police. There are many other bars in south side that do not discriminate against people and I advise you to support others. I came here on a Saturday Night and found the place filled nearly wall-to-wall. I have never seen at Pittsburgh dance club at such a capacity! I liked that there were so many other people, but it was a hassle having to meander to one bathroom serving two floors. The crowd was disrespectful. There were several guys who just walked up to my friends and started dancing on us. Seriously? The walls were also lined with guys just staring at people dancing. It was pretty much a 21+ frat party. The music was okay. The DJ played songs that my group enjoyed but had difficulty transitioning between tracks a few times. There was a $5 cover with free admission for students with their student ID. Also note that smoking is permitted, but I only see a few people seize the opportunity on the second floor. read more

Didn't let my friend in for having "hairy armpits" and wearing a tank top. A girl was wearing a tank top and wanted to leave because the guy didn't get in and the bouncer called her "an entitled bitch". Don't go here. Jimmy D's is the best in the soutside for what it is. So now you ask yourself, what is Jimmy D's? Simple, Jimmy D's is that dirty grinding, sweaty, get drunk and have a great time bar. I usually start my night somewhere else, a slower bar, dive-ish, meet some new people, maybe some women if I find some dumb enough to talk to me, but it always seems to end up at Jimmy D's. We've all been there, about half way to hammered drunk something happens in our hips. It's almost tribal. The thumping of bass just makes you wanna shake your booty. One minute you are sitting at your booth sipping on your micro brewed beer, the next, you are dancing with the bartender on top of the bar. THIS IS A SIGN YOU NEED TO LEAVE AND GO TO JIMMY D's. Once at Jimmy D's you will find a huge group of people in the same situation as you. Drunk, happy, and thinking they can dance.. It's everything a dance club in Pittsburgh should be, random old dudes grinding on younger women, drunk sorority girls dancing with themselves (and when you try and dance with them they give you that "never in a million years" look) and then there are the normal people. Club bartenders are awesome but whoever created the dress code is sexist and discriminatory. The security staff saved the owner and manager from a lawsuit about it. The list of the dress code doesn't favor men. Women are allowed to wear basically nothing, but men get turned away for high top shoes, jean shorts, ripped clothing, athletic wear, and practically anything a guy could wear. Takeover Tuesdays--pretty much the reason to go out mid-week. The dancing starts at 10, and you can certainly have a lot of fun. Be warned, it does get more and more crowded as the night goes on. The drinks are...well....they're just standard drinks, but the bartenders are all really friendly. I enjoy coming here on the weekends as well because it seems to have a core of loyal followers. Dancing, tons of fun. The music has always been good when when my friends and I go. Be warned, it does seem to be a hangout for lots of single guys--it's especially apparent when they line up on the edge of the dance space like high school wallflowers. read more

Went out for my niece's 21st birthday. They refused to let a member of the party in as the bouncer didn't like his mid thigh length shorts (while girls who had their buttocks hanging out were permissible.) When he protested, the bouncer threatened to "punch him in the f...ing face." I told the bouncer to "step back & take a breath" so I was also barred for "being rude." Then they pulled a flamboyant guy from the line, saying he was intoxicated & refused to let him in. This man was not showing any signs of intoxication, he was just a gay man out for a night on the town. Apparently that's against their dress/conduct code as well. Bouncers are so aggressive! I am 5'3 and some giant bouncer grabbed me by the wrist and and yanked me out of the bar because he thought I told him to shut the fuck up. Didn't even ask me to leave first (meanwhile I was waiting for my Uber), he just went straight aggressive and i have bruises on my wrist & my back is sore from how hard he pulled me! I saw 2 bouncers push a guy down the steps earlier in the night when he wasn't even giving them a hard time about leaving. I've been coming here for years. I enjoy dancing, and the bartenders were super nice. I don't know what happened in the few years I've been away... but last night was horrible. The male bartenders were completely rude. The one gave me basically cranberry juice (no vodka). I asked other people to taste it and they agreed. So, I asked him if I could have the female bartender assist me and he kept saying "I can't hear you what do you need." So, I told him the drink didn't taste well. He got REALLY PISSED and told me he deals with "people like me all the time and I shouldn't come back here." I've worked in a bar and wouldn't tell a guest with a complaint to "not come back." As college students, Jimmy D's is a go to for a fun night out! Pretty good music, drinks are reasonably priced, and no cover. Very fun on Thursdays and the weekend. Dance floor upstairs is pretty "lit". Loses a star for the staff. Other than the bathroom attendants, who are great and never push for tips, the bouncers and bartenders are pretty rude. It is a bar and dance club. Cavo and other places are better quality. The cost of drinks is sub par, i spend 40 to get buzzed but can spend less elsewhere (weak drinks). The place was ok for 3 years until the bouncers got scared of my hiking shoes and told me I was too dangerous to enter with such footwear. The guard said they can't handle a little man of 5'7" 140lbs to allow me in. Fine by me I went to cavo for better service and drinks. If the security guards can't handle me then they can't keep the girls safe from bigger threats. read more

By far the worst bar in Southside. Always crowded (that's not even really a complaint), bartenders take forever to come to you, top floor bends (safety hazard), and don't even get me started with the bouncers. Those guys are the worst part of this whole thing. They're the most unwelcoming people you could ever meet. They're worse than the guys at Tequila Cowboy in Northshore. You can be as positive and cordial with them and you're still at risk of not making it in. Even after the long line outside, if I might add. They act like they're at the front door of a high class club, I got news for you guys, you're by far the most trashy bar on East Carson St. If you're planning on going to Jimmy Ds, do yourself a favor and reconsider. I wanted to get in with my friends for a bachelorette party. I never had a bad experience with jimmy d... until tonight. Well, apparently there is a dress code... I don't know why because the place smells like sweat and broken dreams plus it's filled with smoke. There is a dress code for guys which includes no boots? Keep in mind, that's stated nowhere on their website. We were in line getting our ID's checked and the bouncers (oh, the infamous bouncers) were yelling "boots, boots"! Everyone in line was confused but continued to go through. We all proceeded to go in except my friend who waited in line AND all of a sudden was told right in front of the door that he was not getting in because of his boots (WHICH WERE NOT TIMBERLANDS). Well why the heck didn't you pull him aside before hand? Instead they yelled boots for five minutes to thin air?? My friend of course was upset and asked why he wasn't personally informed and they began to harass him! There was 4 bouncers harassing my gay friend. After reading through the comments, I am not sure if this was all actually due to boots or because my friend is gay. DO NOT waste your time or money by coming to this place! Side note for JImmy D, I am sure you make a good profit but clearly you need to make a change in staff. Both your Google and Yelp account have horrible reviews, yikes.
