Love Jimmy D's! It just gets so crowded!!! I'm glad they remodeled it to accommodate more people, and they've started actually counting everyone that goes in. There is a different DJ upstairs and downstairs on a busy night, and the drinks are very reasonable. The atmosphere is very laid back, and everyone is just there to have a good time. This is definitately one of my favorite bars in Pittsburgh.

I went for the first time. Right before I walked In, police officer said I'm not allowed because I'm wearing "slides". Meanwhile, women with 99 cent flip flops are allowed in because they are "thong sandals". Honestly, don't waste your time waiting in this line. Wish someone would have told me that before I got in line and waited over 15 min for them to check my ID but deny me Last second. Just wanted to let the world know Not to wear these sandals When coming to this bar. Happily spent my money at another bar. Peace!!!!!!! Never trying to go there again Ps. I have attached a pic of my Shoes for reference

Right up front I have to dock a star for smoking. Ew. Gross! It needs to just be all non smoking....oh to go home and not smell like an ash tray! Jimmy D's was WAY different back in the day when I went there. I knew it had good music...but it had been a while. I'm not a house music type of girl, I need some down and dirty jams! So going to Villa first was a total bust. Not a house music fan. This place plays the good stuff. Lots of Rap, R & B and old school jams! The stuff you can get down with! Since I'm a total old head now, I want to hear some Biggie mixed with some LMFAO and some dirty Dougie tunes! You'll find that all here. The drinks are CHEAP cheap cheap here, with well drinks and domestic beers being under $3...YES! I get grumpy if I have to pay over $5 for anything in the Burgh! So I'm into this. The ONLY weird thing was that the floor upstairs shook with every bounce and step. It was pretty dead when we got there, but once everyone was on the dance floor, it was bouncing pretty hard. I mean, if the floor gave way, they'd be a lot of good lawsuits going...so hopefully that doesn't happen....but I'd say it's a little weird to feel the floor shake below you...I guess that's the price you pay for the good jams...

I decided to give Howl at the Moon a visit when I was in Pittsburgh for one night and checking out a few downtown spots on a Friday. I've previously been to the location they have in Chicago, so I knew that they're fun for hanging out and enjoying some live music. There was a decent crowd but still plenty of room at the bar for flagging down a bartender and ordering a drink. I appreciated that the space inside was very spacious and the bar both centrally located but also a bit towards the back, leaving plenty of room between it and the stage for the music/bands. The drinks are your standard well drinks and draft beers mostly, but they do the job and are a good price. Looking for a spot in downtown Pittsburgh with great vibes for hanging out and having fun with some drinks and music? I definitely recommend Howl at the Moon!

The inside is quite large with a big bar and multiple seating/standing areas so you never feel claustrophobic. The food is catered and I saw it brought in. It's part of their Friday night fare. That night we had an appetizer bar of caprese skewers, a cheese and cracker platter, mac and cheese, pulled pork sliders with pretzel buns, chicken tenders, and fried veggie eggrolls. I went back for seconds of the sliders and the eggrolls because they were pretty good! The performers on the stage are so talented and they take requests along with cash or Venmo. We had a really fun time and I would come back!

But now here I was in Pittsburgh struggling in near-freezing conditions and without Jamie. I was staying the night at the Hyatt House down the street and decided to brave the cold to come here. Mind you, it was a weeknight, and the place was fairly empty at around 8PM. I remember there were three guys at the end of the bar and a couple of loudish girlfriends blathering on about the lack of available men in Pittsburgh. Struck me they were minimizing their chances in looking for them here. I just sat at the bar waiting for the bartender to show up and probably would've left had it not been cold. Besides, it wasn't like I was in WeHo where I could just go next door. He finally arrived and took my order, the $5 Tequila Sunrise (Photo 9). Definitely a nice price, and he mixed it with the right potency. A little chit-chat would've been nice, especially as an out-of-towner, but alas, this was not a Tokyo mama-san snack bar. This was Pittsburgh, and this left coaster felt a bit out of place, even at a gay bar. I was visiting from Long Beach, CA, and this bar made me feel like I was at home as it was the epitome of a dive bar and very inclusive. The owners do not care, the employees do not care, the police do not (evidently) care! Used to come here often, but after numerous reports of this being the case, I won't step foot here again. Additionally, there is a MINIMUM $10 cover fee every night, regardless of what's going on inside (nothing to write home about), on top of that there is a minimum charge of $10 on credit/debit cards. Meaning you must spend at least $20 to have a mediocre night here. To add to it all, I've left my card here once, I was able to come back the next day and get it luckily. My friend did the same a few months later, she went back the next day and the bartender (some guy) working started discussing with her how hammered he was the night prior and that he was still hungover. She provided her ID to him and he checked the cards they had and said "sorry, your card's not here. We might've given it out to someone else" HELLO WHAT?! Maybe we should check IDs before giving a card away?! Anyways she inquired how that would be possible and he responded "I don't know man, I can't just make it appear out of thin air". Lastly, every time I've come here the bouncers/cover cashier look like they could give 0 shits about working at this job. That's all, enjoy!
