Tikka Mahal is fairly recent on the takeaway scene in Edinburgh and it has made a pretty big impression on me. Situated in the Newington area of Edinburgh, Tikka Mahal is just a short walk from the city centre and it is very close to the University so it is a convenient place for students to go to for dinner. Despite being called Tikka Mahal, giving the impression that it is a curry house, they also do kebabs, burgers, pizzas and fish and chips - so a bit of everything. I came in with a friend who ordered a chicken korma curry with rice which he said was really tasty and the rice was well cooked. I had a burger and chips which also tasted really good and the portions were a decent size. Our meals came to about five pounds each which was a really good deal. There is quite a substantial dining area inside the shop, and Tikka Mahal also does takeaways as well as home deliveries which is incredibly convenient. I haven't been back since but I had a good experience here I definitely plan to go back.

This was the best and spiciest curry I found in Edinburgh…read more It was also had the single best restaurant decor I have EVER seen. The place is literally family-run and they're some of the most hospitable and friendly people in the world. I went on a curry tour of Edinburgh while I was on holiday. I've eaten curry on three continents now and, back home, I like to get my Indian take-away and add both habaneros and ghost pepper hot sauce to it before I eat it. Curry, and especially spicy curry, is very much an essential part of my life. So I picked a new Indian joint each night while I was in the city in an attempt to find it. The Kismot Killer wasn't available at the time I showed up but I was advised by my waiter (one of the coolest, most welcoming guys I've ever met) it's so spicy that it takes away from the actual FLAVOR of the curry, anyway. Let's be honest, there's a point when spicy becomes less about flavor and enjoyment than pure ego. So I got the next spiciest curry on the menu - Vegetable Naga - and asked for IT extra spicy, with rice and chapati. The food was EXCELLENT. The dish, even without modification, was ACTUALLY a fair amount spicy - which, if I can taste a bit of spice, most people probably shouldn't eat it - and the flavors were SO vivid and pleasant. I would've preferred it spicier by a bit but that's okay, it was still the spiciest curry I was able to find in the city and definitely my favourite. Next time I go to Edinburgh I shall be visiting again.

AVOID. Absolutely shambolic from start to finish…read more Ordered at 7:31pm via Uber Eats. Food arrived just after 10:30pm. Nearly three hours for a takeaway. Tried calling at 10pm -- automated message saying they're not taking calls. Repeated attempts later, I finally got through. Was actually questioned on how we'd "waited three hours" when the app said it had been out for delivery for 90 minutes. Because the clock starts when you order -- not when you pretend it's been dispatched. Driver then called asking me to come to the car park to collect it. After a three-hour wait? Absolutely not. When it finally arrived, we were told they'd taken 40 delivery orders at the same time. That might look good on paper, but all it means is 40 angry customers. If you can't handle the volume, stop accepting orders. Basic business. Then the real disaster began. * Two items missing. * Entire order wrong. * Vegetarian dish came with chicken. * Lamb dish was chicken. * Wrong naan. So not just slow -- completely incompetent. Called again. Told it was "impossible" because they photograph every order. Apparently I've got nothing better to do than invent missing food after waiting three hours? Promised call backs that never came. Hung up on. Told refunds "aren't possible" from their end (not true -- they just don't want to take the hit). Then had the audacity to say if we still wanted food we'd have to order and pay again. £56 spent. Nearly three and a half hours wasted. Wrong food. Missing items. Rude staff. Zero accountability. I've worked as a chef for 21 years. Busy services happen. Delays happen. Mistakes happen. What doesn't have to happen is arrogance, overbooking orders you can't fulfil, and treating customers like they're the problem. This wasn't just poor -- it was dysfunctional. Order here if you enjoy gambling with your money, your time, and whether you'll actually eat that night. Never Again!!!

Unfortunately, it doesn't quite deliver everything it promises. There's no denying that the décor is beautiful - the solid oak furniture and linen tablecloths certainly give the place an upmarket feel, but when main courses are around £10-15 without any rice or naans you would expect something more from the food than it actually delivers. That said, they offer a handful of set banquets for two people which work out at roughly £20 per head including starters right through to main courses, although my friends that I ate there with said that theirs was pretty bland and dull. I wouldn't go as far as saying it was a bad meal, but I haven't been in a mad rush to go back to Voujon since my first visit.

They serve traditional and authentic Indian dishes which are full of flavour. I have had a few of their curry dishes and my favourite is the King Prawn Bhuna which is very tasty and quite spicy but not too much that it ruins your meal. The dishes at Voujon are all very well presented and the foo is reasonably priced, with main meals around £9 and there is an extensive veggie menu available as well. They offer several different types of rice and there is plenty of variety of side dishes to accompany your meal. The decor inside is very authentic and modern whilst the staff have always been very attentive and warm. Voujon also do takeaways and is available for private functions.

I ordered a wee bit of carry out from Kama Sutra for a Friday night at home celebration. Overall,…read morethe quality of the food was quite good. The items purchased included KADAI PANEER, LAMB KORMA, and FISH PAKORA. As usual, I will itemise my reviews for each of these foods. In terms of food quality, the most important aspect of a restaurant review, the food was truly SUMPTUOUS, RICH, and TENDER-MEATED. The kadai paneer, which contained paneer with stewed vegetables, was adequately seasoned, flavourful, and succulent. I will say, the quantity of paneer included was MINIMAL, but that is how these restaurants SCAM you: they give you a hefty portion of the cheap stuff, but are overly restrained when it comes to the proteinous goodness. As for the lamb korma, it was RICH. Served in a thique spicy and sweet coconut sauce as yellow as the yolk of a quail's egg, with tender morsels of a lamb's meat, this dish was tantalising. And, finally, the fish pakora. It was flavourful and spiced with a reasonable level of flakiness, such that it was moist but not soggy on the interior and crisp on the exterior. It was served with a delicious yoghurt sauce and a tiny rubbish bag filled with 'salad'. Overall, the food warrants four (4) stars. I have deducted one (1) star due to the LACK OF CARBOHYDRATE in this meal. Little did we know, the saucy dishes are not served with rice or naan. Fortunately, this was carry out and I had some mediocre Co-op naans on hand to seep up the many unctions. So, beware: you must order RICE or NAAN or another INSTRUMENT with which to consume your food, unless you prefer to simply drink the thique and rich juices as you would a cup of tea. Because this food was carried out and consumed in the comfort of my home, I do not factor service, ambience, or other in-restaurant factors into this review. That includes the supposed sex theme of the restaurant. Perhaps one day I will venture in for the full experience.
