I have eaten here a handful of times as it's located right near my job. There were never any issues though nothing stood out either. My issue came from the last time I ordered takeout. I ordered the Express Biryani and in a few hours, I had become extremely ill. I was ill throughout the night and didn't fully recover for a few days. I have not been back since unfortunately. I don't want to give this restaurant 1 star because I didn't have any previous issues. Went to Tikka Express with a small group of friends recently. This is in the old location for Gyros Plus, and you can still see some of the old store in there. The furniture has been changed, and a lot of things have been improved, so that is nice. However, these are not the important thing. The important thing is the smell when you first walk in... it is amazing! When you open that door and get the first wafts of the food within, you know that you are in for a good meal! They offer a modest buffet bar, which is a fair price for what is there. I went for that as did most of us, and that went well. The buffet is nice because it gives you an opportunity to eat a variety of different things, and if you are unfamiliar with Indian food it gives you a chance to try a variety of different things. There was a steady flow of people coming into the restaurant for food, both sit-doiwn and take-out, and I saw many of the 3rd party delivery drivers come in to take orders out, so it is certainly popular even after being open for so short a time. The buffet closes down about an hour or so before actual closing. What this means is that they stop selling plates for the buffet, but those that are still there that got in under the wire are welcome to continue filling their plates from it. I spoke with the owner, who was very nice, and she was concerned that I enjoyed the food. They take pride in their work, and want to be sure that what you are getting is what you want, which I find lovely. read more

This place is more than a restaurant, it has treated me like family the past 3 years. Welcoming me with open arms, greeting me by name and getting to know me and my friends. They always have the best food, served hot and fresh to your liking. Their Saag paneer, Daal lentil, and naan is unbeatable. This family-run restaurant goes above and beyond for their customers and cares about the Gainesville community. I cannot thank them enough. I agree with other posts about this not looking like much from the outside, though their signage and logo out front is very clean and professional. We went here to try their buffet option which are served on weekdays for the entire first half of day (forgot exactly what time it stops), and we usually go to the Indian Cuisine on 34th for buffet so this was def a different experience. We walked in earlier in the day so it was completely quiet when we entered. You pay first ($9.95 w/ drink and unlimited FRESH naan which they bring out one basket at a time to each table, so you won't find them on the buffet counter). We loved the naan we asked for 3 back to back! The curries and tikka masala itself were not the best ones I've had (6.5/10 at most for all of them together), but for the price I think it'll do its job for me haha! Their goat vindaloo isn't really spicy at all, and I usually eat this dish every indian buffet I try and it's always been a great level of spice! Theirs parallel parking spot in the front, but in the back there is a private lot allocated to these stores altogether so you don't have to pay meters either. Yesterday I tried out Tikka Express for lunch and it was really good. I went in around 11:45 and thankfully we did. The place is not huge inside and it got packed very quick. Tikka Express is a new Indian Buffet in town and it was very tasty. When you walk in, you can tell it not very large on the inside. You first go up to the counter and pay. For $10.95 you get the buffet, a drink and unlimited Naan bread. The Naan bread is brought to your table and not on the buffet, but you can ask for more. They have Coke products for soda options which is nice! Then you can go to the buffet. They do not have nice plate or utensils. They have all Styrofoam plates, plastic spoons and forks. You can grab a tray and a plate and help yourself to unlimited trips to the buffet. They first have a salad bar and then the hot offerings. I skipped the salad and went straight to the hot bar. They had really good Chicken Tikka Masala on the buffet along with curry chicken, Masala Cabbage, and many other items as well. I found it all to be really tasty and it was a good price for the amount of money you pay. I wish this place had a recycle bin, but they do not. You put all your trash in the trash can. Since they use styrofoam plates and plastic utensils, they are producing lots of waste. Chose the buffet lunch. The buffet was picked over, not very appetizing. There was a big pan of sauce that was missing any chicken. There was tandoor chicken that was dried out. There was no bread. Our party originally came for the buffet and arrived at around 7 pm but there was barely any food left in any of the trays. I understand the buffet closes at 8 pm but I personally feel that 7 pm is a regular dinner time and people would want to come eat the buffet (especially on a Friday night). Maybe they could extend their hours for the weekends! But anyways, our party decided to just order off the menu instead. You order and pay up front but what the cashier didn't tell us was that it was gonna take an HOUR to just cook the food. I complained after waiting for about 40 minutes and the cashier said that they cook their food in the order they are placed, so it takes longer if there are people who ordered ahead of us. And then she said that it takes at least 45 minutes to cook each dish. She could've at least said that before we ordered so that we could have went to another place to eat, because we were already pretty hungry. She started telling customers who came AFTER us that the wait time is at least 45 minutes, only after I complained! I saw a few people leave and choose to go to another restaurant after hearing that little disclaimer. They need to change their restaurant name because it's definitely not Tikka "EXPRESS." When we did finally get our food though, it was fresh and flavorful. The chicken biryani had authentic, aromatic flavors and the tandoori chicken looked like it was baked in an actual tandoori oven! However, was it worth the wait time? No. I would suggest just only eating at the buffet here and definitely go early like around lunch time so that you are guaranteed food. EDIT: I just noticed that their Yelp bio says their buffet runs from 11am-10pm. It doesn't. read more

This was by far the best Indian buffet I've had in Gainesville. In this world, there are some restaurants you go to for the experience, some for the decor, and some simply for the food. This place you go to simply for the food. This restaurant is located in a rather dingy and dilapidated plaza where you're more likely to go for a dive bar experience than you are for Indian food. The interior of the restaurant is well lit but is also very Spartan in nature. No crazy decor, no crazy wall art, and no fancy dishes. Instead plates and bowls are styrofoam and utensils are plastic. The walls are pretty standard 2 tone colors and the tables are ones you would find in a diner. But like I said, you come here for the food. One look at the buffet bar and you realize this place has more variety than most of the other places in town. They have 2 types of biriyani, multiple soups, stews, and accompaniments. More impressively, the dishes that contain goat do not skimp at all in the size of the chunks of meat that are cooked in. But perhaps the thing that makes this one of the best Indian buffets in town is simply the price. For $9.95, you get a buffet with drink and unlimited naan bread. That price is simply unbelievable and unbeatable. I think the next cheapest Indian buffet in town starts at around $12 or $13. At this price point, there's no better place to go to get your fill of good Indian food. I applaud this place. Keep up the good work and the low prices. This lovely place actually has great Indian food, yummy naan, and lots of choices. It is low-key, clean, and has both chaat and standard curry and rice types of dishes. My favourite thing is that the cook is from Durban, and therefore you get really flavourful curries - I had a fish curry that was out of this world, and in a lunch buffet! This place is amazing. When I was young I was tought how to cook Indian/Pakistani food by a maternal figure from there. This brings me right back into her kitchen. The food feels like it was made with love which was previously thought to be impossible for a buffet. The man that is at the counter is beyond kind and always makes me feel appreciated when I enter the building. There has not been one thing that I have disliked on the buffet. I love that it's a mix of meat and veggie options. One time the tandoori chicken was out for less than 10 minutes and I was set on crying. Its the single best chicken I've ever had. I get the buffet so I can stuff my face with as much of it as possible. In fact I am only writing this because I have to wait for them to open. Also important is the regular dishes you can order. The portions are really fair as well as the prices. We ordered for 5 adults and it was around $75.. we were all stuffed and had enough for 4 meals after (this is including a 13 year old that has grown a foot in a year). Menu is not priced accurately. I was charged more than the prices listed on the menu. I asked the staff and they didn't know why there was a price discrepancy but I was charged the higher price anyway. I ordered my food mild and they still made it spicy. This is my absolute favorite spot for Indian food. Their Butter Chicken and Tikka Masala are both amazing and the best in town. I always judge an indian restaurant by how well they do Tikka Masala and I have to say, this is the best one Ive ever had. This is why I really really miss their buffet, I would eat there three times a week. All you can eat. One day it will be back again. You will love it and become addicted like I am.
