I was there to check out the tree. Oh that tree is glorious, over 225 feet with a truck of neatly 21 inch circumference. Anyways back to the shop. It's in a red painted building in front of Lucky Llama coffee. Heritage sells sustainable, eco friendly items in a curated country store. The merchandise range from baby clothes, toys, art, kitchenware, stationary, vegetable and flower seeds, dishes, drink ware, etc. Think modern and hip. The items are practical and beyond the mundane same old. The price points are at boutique pricing but not so outrageously priced. The items that caught my eye were art prints from Hello Coyote, and Little Salt Wagon. May I add, pieces were affordable ranging from small prints, greeting cards, to larger sizes. Little Salt Wagon is art from local Ventura County artist Amanda Cox. Simple, but beautiful watercolors inspired by the rural Ventura County surroundings.

Island Outfitters is a beachy themed adult/seniors store, I would say, that carries mostly brand name clothing made with high quality materials and very high pricing. They do have a section I enjoy browsing at the front that include seashell style gifts and home decor. During the holidays they have beautiful, unique ornaments as well, but again way out of my price range. There is a funny little fur ball dog that greets you each time you walk in. It's very friendly and well trained, just wants to say hi! They also usually have packets of California poppy seeds at the front in an orange paper wrapped back for you to take, no charge. I love the concept of keeping California traditions alive like that. The staff here are welcoming and very focused on their jobs. They may not make a huge effort for customer service but if you go up and ask questions they're glad to help. Parking can be found on Linden Ave, side streets, or the lot behind Crushcakes. I will continue to come back to see what new ideas that have brought into the store, but quite honestly unless there is a massive 70% off bargain sale I don't see myself seriously shopping/purchasing here.

Their clothing is gorgeous, high quality, and unique. I was elated when I saw they had opened a store on State Street in Santa Barbara. My first visit was to buy a gift for a friend (she loved a pair of wide leg linen pants I had and I wanted to get her something similar). I found the item I was looking for and asked the cashier what the return policy was. I never asked before because when buying for myself, I make sure I 100% want the item and it fits perfectly, as I hate to return stuff. I was told I could get my money back if I returned it within 14 days with receipt. After that, it was store credit only. The pants did not fit my friend, so I went to return them. I was told I could only get store credit. I phoned the Ojai store and explained what happened, and they allowed the return for cash. I will not go into detail as to how I got treated when I returned the pants once again to store manager Andrea. It was the most obnoxious, ungracious way to treat a great customer. So for all of you who go shop at Kariella and I highly recommend the store, just avoid dragon Andrea. You can't miss her : hair uncombed, tattoos all over, bare stomach hanging over clothing that is 2 sizes too small for her weight, looking like she just came rolling in from having spent a night in a biker's bar. The other girls who work at Kariella are super friendly and nice, just like the people in the Ojai store. 10 stars for Kariella! -100 stars for Andrea!

My son had skateboarded up, I commented that he should not ride it in the shop (obviously) but was excited because there was one in the doorway. The man kinda laughed and said yeah, tha would be a bad idea. The woman looked like she was going to have a kinipshin. Overall, just super unfriendly. We were clearly not the people she wanted in her shop. Not sure who she does since they had kids beach toys and other stuff prominently displayed, and advertised a kids surf camps. But I will definitly not be signing my kids up for that one.

Ode to Homer Where to begin?…read more It's a delight. As as you enter this exquisite store, which once was a tiny old garage for the building, you will be transported. It's a bit of a mix of Out of Africa with old hollywood glamour down just right Mr. Terry Pillow, formerly the CEO of Tommy Bahama, is behind this masterpiece of a store. If you are lucky, you will spot his restored animal safari Range Rover out front. It is the real deal. As you enter the store, did you notice the rug that you are standing on? It's made up of a collection of his ties... Hermes, Armani and more. Heck when you are retired, make a necktie rug! Are you ready for your next picnic? Your day at the polo fields? Are you looking for the perfect gift? Check out his gorgeous, handcrafted leather goods that can be monogrammed. He has a small leather pouch that you unzip and then voila - a beautiful popup cup (not plastic) pops out. At the back of the store is a painting of his grandfather or was it his great grandfather named Homer. Like the eyes of the Mona Lisa, his stare kind of follows you. We were lucky to be there on his first day of opening. As other folks meandered in as we sauntered out, we all agreed it was a real delight just to visit the store. Thank you T.P. Check out the recent Riv magazine, for a lovely spread about Terry, his wife and their vision How lucky are we to have this fantastic store. I think it's one that will make our new British resident feel right at home. Hint hint Harry PS do you notice the type of falcon as his mascot? It's considered to be the fastest bird - even the fastest animal on earth reaching speeds of 320 km/h (200 m/h) I could tell you but take a guess when you visit Terry at Homer.
