Tiki Oasis is a 4-5 day total immersion in TIki Culture, retro-vibe, music, fashion, cocktails, parties, seminars, shopping, and connecting with people! It can be very pricey between tickets and lodging, but if you enjoy the environment, it's truly an amazing event. The marketplace has everything you can think of that might relate to Tiki and Mid-Century Modern living. The seminars provide information on everything from how to make cocktails to history, movies, books, people, and any other topic you can think of... including some where you can make your own items with an instructor, like lamps, etc! There is so much to do or you can chill with your friends by the pool or at one of the bars or over a meal. At night, there is a concert every night with a mixture of types of music: you might find exotica, rockabilly, surf music, Hawiian sounds, you just never know! The people who attend are there for a good time and to learn, spend time with friends, show off their amazing outfits and overall HAVE FUN. I hightly recommend a visit. Start with a day at the marketplace and see what you think and if you want to commit to the full thing next year! read more

This is the biggest gathering of tiki lovers in the country; possibly now too big. I liked it better pre-covid but it's still a great event. Entertainment, sun, food, tropical adult beverages, room parties, burlesque, shopping and more. The fact that it's in San Diego also enables visits to Bali Hai, the Grass Skirt and False Idol. read more

It was fun but bring a ton of cash. Your entrance doesn't get you much but in the door. There are room parties that you can stand in long lines for a tiny glass of drink or you can buy a drink for about $20 a pop. Unlike Hukilau the seminars cost extra. There are some drinks the give away but few and far in between. It's fun but not worth the money. Hukilau in Florida is much better read more

This is such a huge event, it goes on for days. I only rate four stars because the tickets are not available for just single days, you pay a lot to go all days but this is a huge commitment. Fun, cool vibe and the crowd here is super chill, very nice culture, everyone is polite and fun and there to have a good time, good vibes all around. Good music, fun shows, the room parties are great if you are willing to stand in line, i would recommend renting a room if you are doing all days. read more

This year was my first time at Tiki Oasis. Held from Wed., Aug 8 to Sun., Aug 12 at The Crowne Plaza in San Diego, there were several levels of multi-day tickets ranging from $135 to $499. Prices were not for the faint of heart especially if you didn't spend most of your time on the premises: lounging in or around the pool, listening to bands (both during the day and evening), attending symposiums (essentially classes or presentations with a tiki or tropical theme), shopping at the indoor and outdoor marketplace, and, of course, drinking with your friends (new and old). I attended a handful of symposiums from Friday to Sunday - most of which were cool (Charles Phoenix was a hoot) and included a cocktail sample but a couple were a complete waste of time. Since my ticket included all non-cocktail symposiums, it wasn't a big deal to leave a symposium after a few minutes to attend another. On Friday, there were free cocktails at the pool for a couple of hours - sponsored by liquor companies, tiki bars, or a combination of the two! On Friday night, I attended the midnight burlesque show which was wildly popular and fire-hazard-dangerously crowded. The show itself was fun but the execution of having us move our own chairs from the back of the room to the front of the stage was... well, stupid. The mad rush to the stage caused a number of people to get angry at each other and almost erupted in physical altercations because the people who didn't follow directions essentially cut in front of the line of those of us who waited. Overall, I had a great time people-watching as most of the patrons wore tropical- or nautical-themed outfits, many of which were vintage or vintage-looking. People were generally really friendly, too. My favorite aspect about the festival was meeting the artists and seeing all the great art and items for sale at the indoor and outdoor marketplace. I picked up some great items, too: two dresses, a pair of sunglasses, a limited edition/numbered Tiki Oasis print, a print of The Stockton Islander (a popular tiki-themed restaurant from the 1960s-70s), and Doug Horne's tiki lantern mug. Included in the price of my ticket was with the official Tiki Oasis mug: the bust of a badass-looking tiki sailor sculpted and produced by Eeekum Bookum. It looks great among my tiki mug collection! I doubt I will attend the festival again given the price-point and fact that I prefer sight-seeing to lounging around a pool and attending symposiums. The good thing, though, is that the shopping areas are free on certain days and times so I wouldn't mind coming back to shop! read more

If I could live my life in Tiki Oasis I would. I felt like I was in a 1950s Elvis movie. This is the type of event you have to see to fully understand. I loved every freakin second of it. (OK well maybe not my too drunk brother-in-law) The people who come here although all having something so incredible in common are not cliquish or exclusive. In fact I have never felt so welcome in my life. From the people who helped me get the room and wristband last minute to the people who gave me free drinks at the pool and let me sit under their umbrella all day. Let me give you a quick run down: Walk into the hotel which is all tiki style. Take pictures chat with every one in line Go outside and see a million people at the pool all dressed in either Cabana wear, floral sun dresses or 50s style Hawaiian outfits. Go up in elevator to room (seriously why are the elevators so slow?) Throw crap in room and head down to the pool grass area to watch multiple awesome bands Watch Go-Go dancers next to band After bands are over go to one of the many room parties. Seriously the room parties are in suites that have had ALL the furniture removed. There is a bar set up where they serve FREE drinks and there is a band and some rooms have burlesque See hot girl do burlesque while hula hooping Mind Blown Day two: repeat. Day three: Become profoundly depressed that it's time to go back to the real world Tiki Oasis I am in love. read more

TIKI-GEEKY. Not for the faint of heart Tiki-goer. Plan a week of partying and drink fest and shopping and pool play. This place is crowded, fun, communal, kid-friendly, and non stop jam packed activities. I really enjoyed all the live music, arts and crafts, symposiums, vendor shopping and room parties. The first thing to do here is get the lay of the land. Understand the map and pick your itinerary. It can be overwhelming and crazy if you aren't a good planner. Also, become a Facebook group member so you can keep in touch with all the community and know what's happening. It was super helpful to have a room at the Crowne Plaza, but the rooms go quick and they're difficult to come by. If you don't have a room, parking off site and shuttle service is a bit of an ordeal. The people there are hardcore Tiki from designer fashion, hair rolling, 50's swim couture, and tiki freaky mugs and art. Bring your style best. read more

Tiki Oasis is my favorite weekend of the year, it's always the greatest party! I've brought friends and coworkers in years past that were not at all into Tiki, they always leave going "so, what's the plan for next year?" 2019 was maybe the best one for me so far, the 80's "Catch the New Wave" theme was such a blast. Can't wait to see what Baby Doe and Otto cook up for next year! read more

Best Tiki Event, BAR NONE! Originally took place at the Caliente Tropics in palm Springs, but moved to the Hanalei in SD to accommodate the swelling crowds. Still really affordable, too! Tons of vendors of vintage clothing & wares, original art (Tiki carvings, mugs, jewelry, imagery, etc.), as well a great musical acts, seminars, and a freindly, lively atmosphere. There is something to do at almost any hour from the Thursday it started until Sunday night. People have even been starting to stay over on Sunday, in order to make (what is becoming) the traditional Monday morning breakfast at The Waffle Spot in The King's Inn across the way... read more

This is the most fun weekend of the year, hands down. I am so blown away by the work and love that goes into this event -- there is something for EVERYBODY! And the greatest thing is that there are all kinds of "everybodys" who go -- it's a guarantee you will meet great people and have the time of your life. Tiki drinks, awesome bands, fabulous vendors, sipping cocktails by the pool, engaging symposiums, fun fashion, cool car show... you can fill your whole day (and night!) with activities, or go at your own pace. Tiki Oasis is my favorite holiday, and I am so happy it exists. I'd give it 10 stars if I could. Thank you to everyone involved... Even if my liver says the opposite. I love it, and you will, too! read more

Tiki Oasis rocks my world. If you've been - you know. If you haven't, you just wont get it. But, just for Shlitz and giggles, here's a fast run through of this years mind blowing experiences; Pool partys, Rum, Burlesque, Monsters, Elevator performance by The Creepy Creeps, bar in the elevator? What? Room parties, staged bands... Creepy Creeps(my Fav), The Sonics, and more. How bout smoking red eyes tiki bar, car show, hamburgers, Mai Tais, Rum, Rum, Rum, Dance, drink, play, swim, rock out, vintage clothing, limited run tiki mugs, tiki art, monsters again, Miss Tiki Oasis, Cabana Strut, pinball, sushi, tacos, cars, friends, splash, getting wet, Massive beach ball war party, getting rocked, getting rad, getting ready for next year. Special shout out to Raub and Monty of "Mr California" Classic Modern Men's Leisure Clothing for your sponsorship of Tiki Oasis 2016. And "thanks big time" for your awesome room parties - Thanks to "Blue Chair Bay" for supplying the drinks at Mr California parties. Hands down, best drink of all the parties at Tiki Oasis 2016. read more

How much fun did I have you ask? So much fun that I am still in bed 15 hours later. There's a lot to do every single day. The best deal is to volunteer so you can get a free weekend pass. Just upgrade it to include Sunday night. During the day, there are shows, classes, and shopping. At night there's more bands, and room parties! They are so much fun. You just go, find a room where you can see bands play, get drinks, and have fun all night long. The great thing about the hotel is that there could be parties on either side of your room and you won't hear much when you sleep. Everyone is super friendly and there's such a mellow vibe all weekend. read more

Even for a casual connoisseur of tiki, I can't deny that Tiki Oasis is a great time. Last year, my girlfriend and I's first year, we made the amateur mistake of not staying at the Crowne Plaza. Having done that this year, I can say it's so much better staying in-house. Being able to walk to all the vendor areas, symposiums, and occasionally go back to our poolside room for a break or to watch a band from our deck was amazing. A little disappointed we won't be in the country for next year's edition, but it's good to know the tiki party never stops at tikio. read more

For the year 2019, the organizers of this event are dropping the ball! Communication is almost zero to none for participants who are vending and have car show entries. Days away from the event and still no confirmation of placement. I may just pull my vending. I understand this is a small crew, but when you have a huge event where you are charging upwards of $160-$499 for admission--you should have a full crew trained and read to deliver the most attentive customer service with quick communication. UPDATE: I am glad I have attended so that I could learn that I will never need to pay for admission ever again! You can enjoy all the offerings of Tiki Oasis before the 5pm wristband check (but we know a few people who were able to get away with attending room parties, watch the concerts from balconies, etc) I feel ripped off paying what I did for a ticket. I did all my shopping and looking around by the time 5pm rolled around. I attended a room party, but to be honest its not even worth the 2-3 hour wait to get in one. For 2020, come for free early and indulge in the scene and save your money! One day is good enough to get the feel! read more

Best Tiki Event ever! I was lucky enough to live in San Diego, so it was right in my backyard. So far, I have been 4 years, and I hope to continue going every year coming up! The last two years I even brought my son, and he LOVED the music and pool~it is totally what you make it. It can be a crazy drunken-rum punch soaked party, or you can bring the kids and it is a great family event too! I'm a huge fan of Otto and Baby Doe for making this event happen every year! I even volunteered the first three years I went and received a free event pass & awesome goodie bag. It's a great way to meet new people and its actually FUN too! Love this event!! read more

Tiki-Oasis is one of those events you get excited about all year long. You can't help but have a fun time. I have brought my three year old there and husband and had a blast. I've gone alone and had a blast! I always make new friends--whether it be while dancing or in line for a room party or even in the bathroom. It also does a beautiful job of keeping the wonderful spirit of Tiki alive and well with new themes every year and great seminars. For such a big event with so many people, it runs incredibly smooth and you can still find time to chat with friends you made last year. Also, make sure to get the collector mug! They are gorgeous! read more

I've been attending Tiki Oasis in San Diego for the past 10 years and I still believe it's unmatched for a total immersive tiki weekend experience. Friends, this event is one helluva good time!!! Tiki Oasis is the premiere Tiki-weekender in the nation and one of my faaaave events all year. By day you can lounge at the pool while rad DJs spin classic 50s/60s vinyl, you can shop for vintage clothing, art and more in the marketplace, learn the history of your favorite tiki beverages as you do a rum tasting (or one of the many many other cool symposiums), check out a live tiki carving or have a Bloody Mary at a pop up bar IN THE ELEVATOR! And that's all against the backdrop of palm trees in the beautiful San Diego sunshine. The party continues when the sun sets.... amazing live bands, more DJs, room parties, go-go dancers, burlesque acts. The list goes on! It's also incredible people watching!! The attention to detail at TikiO is pretty phenomenal, you can tell the organizers truly care and have a genuine passion for Tiki culture. My favorite part is that you can truly craft your own experience. True, you can party all night and let yer hair down.... but you can also have a super fun/chill time lounging by the pool with friends and enjoying all the day time activities. Highly recommend Tiki Oasis....if you've never been, you have to go at least once! (But be warned... it's addicting! You'll for sure be back!!) PS you don't have to be a tiki pro to enjoy....I have had friends who love the vintage/tiki scene go and I have had friends who were new to it all and everyone had a blast! read more

John S.is kidding about the dorks or hanging with the wrong crowd 'cus there are lots of cool cats and kittens hanging out and partying at Tiki Oasis. It's so good, I've made a trip from New York to San Diego twice just to attend this event and plan on many more! A celebration of Polynesian pop and retro culture, music ranging from surf to lounge to exotica, burlesque (how NOT dorky is that), vintage fashion, cocktail mixology and tropical drinks, free film screenings, 60's go-go dancing, classic cars, and pin-up beauty. The fabulous Bali Hai restaurant by the water in Shelter Island is also a place of celebration. There are also really great vendors selling everything from clothing to cocktail accoutrements. And it's a diverse, all-ages crowd. The coolest DJs come from all over the country to spin indoors and out, all under a beautiful San Diego sky in a tiki hotel that keeps the pool and hot tub open till 2am for the sold-out Tiki Oasis crowd. What's not to like? You won't get much sleep, but you will meet lots of fun people and have memories to treasure. Always a great time!!! Each year there is a different theme which is a great way to switch things up and make each year memorable. Lots & lots of rum flowing. Great vibe with nothing but friendly Tiki followers. The symposiums will always teach you something new or you can just hang by the pool & take it all in. Lots of vendors with tons of cool stuff. And the cherry on top is the car show with a band playing as you cruise around looking at all the fine rides. So we've been going to this event for several years. Its basically a Tiki themed 3 day retro party. It's fun, if that's your thing. It gets a little crazy, but is definitely fun. Last year they had some great bands i.e. the creepy creeps and the swank bastards. Most of the people that attend this event are total dorks. Some of the dorks, openly admit that they are dorks, like myself. Some of the other dorks don't realize that they're dorks, but they, like myself, are dorks nonetheless. The latter group of dorks can be a little bit stuffy at first but for the most part, everyone's cool and has a good time. read more
