She was dismissive of my health concerns, possibly because I'm younger than the typical NEMS patient. When I shared my symptoms, she brushed them off, even commenting, "You have so many concerns, it's like you're implying you have cancer," and was eager to move on quickly. When I mentioned mental health issues and history, she was against antidepressant use and initially refused to refill a prescription. At my follow-up appointment two weeks later, she didn't remember seeing me before and seemed surprised that I was there. Her bedside manner was also lacking--she was rough during the examination, and her long, sharp nails, even through gloves, poked and irritated my skin. Her reviews pre covid made her seem like a good PCP choice for me, but if you're a younger patient she might not treat you seriously.

I had visited a holistic doctor back a few months ago, but really didn't feel the warm fuzzies from her---like you should when you are putting your health in someone's hands. Dr. Luong was fantastic. She didn't keep me waiting at all, and her staff was very professional and polite. Her bedside manner was phenomenal, and she went over what could be wrong with me---listing options I had. She asked me a bunch of questions regarding my habits and symptoms of my current state. I am so glad that I found her! She prescribed some meds for me right away, and as a precaution told me to check in with her in a couple days. What a difference :) Just an FYI: 2 hour Parking is best on Telegraph---as it is not really available on Webster.

I have to agree with Eric C.'s 2010 review. I have been seeing Dr. Malcolmson (Tisi) since late…read more2007, and I have had nothing but excellent care from her and her office staff. If you are looking for an M.D. that is knowledgeable, kind, truly concerned with your care and dedicated, then Dr. Michelle Malcolmson is the perfect choice. In fact she goes out of her way to stay on top of things. If I have a blood test, or something else has come back wrong, I either get an immediate phone call or an email via "My Health Online." Folks, I am not joking with that statement. I don't know how she does it, but one day I replied to her email and in less than 5 minutes I got a reply back, and this has occurred multiple times. In my case were most Doc's would throw their hands in the air, Dr. Malcolmson stays on it and solves the issue. She is truly the nicest Physician I have ever had. As to the reviews about knowledge? Those who made those reviews obviously don't get it. I have ton's of issues, and Dr. Malcolmson has never failed, nor even scratched her head. I have read some of these negative reviews, and everything that Jenni C. said back in 2009 was way off, and everything that Dr. Malcolmson did was right on. Now I am just reading the review from her view point, but I have worked in critical care for 25 years. Asking for ones family history is dead on, and just because there is no history that you know of for diabetes in your family obviously something in in Jenni's Grandmother's history put up a red flag. As to the pill, it is common knowledge that old instructions for the pill are not as accurate as we once thought, so a month is better. I think that I'd trust Dr. Malcolmson's advise over my non med school education any day. When I came to Dr. Malcolmson I did not know her from adam, but I was impressed straight away.

First, there seemed to be confusion about why I was there. Next, I waited 30 minutes as the only patient in the office while the machine "warmed up." Then, the issues with the machine started. I waited another hour and a half while they tried to fix the machine. I was told 2 hours after the arrival that I could not have the days, after 3 days of preparation. Confirming that the machine was operational should have been addressed the day before or first thing this morning. There was no respect for my time. I wasn't even offered water while I sat in a waiting room dizzy and shakey from fasting. I took time off work, significantly modified my diet for days, and spent $30 on transit. There was no offer to rebook the appointment, which is for the best because I would have declined. The office was chaos. There was also a doctor sitting behind a desk dictating notes right in front of me, which is a complete and total HIPAA violation!! Like a previous reviewer who gave Dr. Cafaro 5 stars, I have been her patient for over 20 years…read more Unlike him I am not surprised that people give mixed reviews, but I believe the reviews are mixed primarily because her front desk staff unfortunately does not represent the quality or character of the practice as a whole - that is, the service is spotty and, to be honest, one member of the front staff is downright surly. When I first began seeing Dr. Cafaro in 1992 her office staff was efficient, empathetic, entertaining, and most loveable - the best office staff I had ever had the pleasure of going through when I needed to see my doctor. I have no idea what happened as people moved on in their careers and others were hired. She took me as her patient in the wake of a catastrophic year in which they had lost 14 men to AIDS. Newly arrived in San Francisco, I had been phoning through a lengthy list to find a doctor. I was turned down time after time, and I was fortunate to be added to Dr. Cafaro's patient roll. Over the years Dr. Cafaro has become one of the nation's most respected doctors in the field of retroviruses, dealing daily with HIV, HepC, and other medical nightmares that have, as a result of her work and that of so many others, gradually been brought under some semblance of control. Dr. Cafaro is the most brilliant personal physician I have known. She is able to take random symptoms and make sense of them. She is a healer. And she takes her time. One person describes her as garrulous, not negatively; I would not, however, agree. She has a wonderful sense of humor, but over the course of an appointment, she gathers odd bits of information, sometimes seemingly unrelated, and by appointment end, she generally secures a solution to even enigmatic difficulties. Also, unlike many physicians trained in western medicine, she recommends medical practices that fall under the umbrella of medical care, but are often viewed skeptically by western doctors. She does not deny the power of eastern medicine, for example, and if she is perplexed by a condition will recommend naturopathy and other umbrella practices. Her primary PA, Jennifer Chen, is well trained, efficient, and brusque. She provides a counterpoint to Dr. Cafaro's more leisurely approach to medicine, but, unlike a previous PA who remained only a short time, she is excellent at what she does. She is blunt, can be skeptical, but unlike one brutal harangue against her in these reviews, she is not angry, bitter, or hateful. She simply does not strive to be your mother. I call attention to this because as a professor I have read studies of student evaluations, and I believe that students' expectations of women professors are much like patients' expectations of female doctors: they want nurturers, women who exude empathy and affection, who for all intents and purposes behave like their ideal mother (and perhaps not like their real mother at all). They do not expect this from men, and, indeed, for the very same traits that they lower their ratings of women professors, they honor male professors. Much of the same, I believe, goes on in people's minds when they go to a woman doctor or PA. The brusqueness that they would describe as intelligence and incisiveness in a male doctor or PA, they experience as bitchiness from a woman doctor or PA. That's the way of our world. Female professionals have to live with it and discover ways of dealing with it. Jen is outstanding; she could easily be a doctor if she chose to be. We are the ones who need to examine our preconceptions of how women professionals need to behave.
