After we settled into our hotel room (Red Roof), our thoughts turned to our stomachs. My wife was…read moreunder the weather a bit which, being threatening storms and rain, there was a lot of weather to be under. So I checked Google Maps (what did I do before we had our devices?) and saw a Food Lion in a nearby shopping center. If it hadn't been storming, I think it would have been nearly as fast to walk, but I valiantly fought traffic for 3/10 of a mile and came home with victuals for the family unit. It was a typical supermarket, with plenty of choices for the modern post service era shopper. I thought the bakery lacked imagination in its products, which was offset by a rambunctious deli where my dinner awaited me. Chicken soup for the wife's dicey tummy, fried chicken for me and - hey, how did that Milky Way bar get into my grocery bag?

I have a love-hate relationship with Walmart in general because of the inexpensive but shoddy…read morequality of many of the products they sell. Believe it or not, there was a time that Walmart wouldn't sell anything that was made in the United States unless the only option for a particular product was an imported product. Oh, the good ol' days of Sam Walton. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case and many products are only made overseas. With that being said, there are some items I'll get here including bottled, canned, and boxed foodstuffs such as soda, flour, beans but I tend to stay away from their produce and meats with a few exceptions. There are a few general merchandise items that you can find on sale but again the quality of many items are quite cheap. As for this store, the people who work here are all generally nice and it's actually the only Walmart I've ever been to where an associate asked me if I needed help finding something. When I finally got their attention, they told me the scale was broken, which added more time to my wait. When I tried to buy some heated deli items instead, I found out there were none available, even though it was still early in the afternoon. She did provide me with the deli items. When I got home, I realized they gave me a pound of turkey instead of chicken, and it cost over $11. I'm not a fan of turkey, so I was very disappointed. I know that talking to the management won't help, as this store is the only one in town and seems to disregard customer concerns. I've also noticed expired items on sale and brought them to Customer Service, but they don't seem to take it seriously. I think the corporate office needs to investigate the situation at the Manning Walmart more closely.
