One of my friends is an avid McMenamin's follower, finishing stamp books and visiting every one. Thankfully he was with us, because I had no clue from the parking lot where exactly we were supposed to go. There are paved paths into the trees, but no real indication of where the restaurant is supposed to be vs. the various other things (like outdoor event seating, the area for weddings, etc.) they have there. He led us to the sitdown restaurant. The restaurant was not supremely busy - at least on the inside. I believe a lot of people were outside because it was a nice day. My buddy got a beer and a shot and we ordered our food. I went with the BBQ Brisket Sandwich. Normally, I get a burger or sliders, but it was on the seasonal menu and sounded good. I got it with a side of cajun tots. Then we waited. And waited. And waited some more. It took over an hour before we got our food. To be fair, an older couple that was seated outside right before we were seated inside got their food and about 7-8 minutes later we got ours, so they were making and delivering the food in the correct order. The large table next to our booth had 9 people and they got their appetizers early and then got the rest of their food after we did (they ordered after us, too). I will say the food was very good. I've read some reviews about the lack of meat on the BBQ Brisket sandwich - which is a whopping $25 -- but mine had enough. It does come on a large piece of sandwich, so the bread will fill you up. I couldn't eat everything and left a handful of tots on the plate, so I'm not complaining. From what I heard, the burger one of my friends got was very good and the beer and shot was tasty (aged whisky, I believe he said). Overall, it is a beautiful place. Fortunately for me, I had an experienced guide, otherwise I would have been lost upon getting out of my car. Lots of side areas for smoking cigars or tequila bars and I wouldn't have known where I needed to go to eat. The food was very good, but it took FOREVER. The waiter we had was excellent as well - he checked on us a few times and he recognized the food was taking a long time, but there's nothing he can do about that. The food came out around the order it appears they were placed, which is as fair as you can get. I would definitely come back now that I know where I'm going. I don't make it a point to visit McMenamin's locations like he does, but this is a nice location, the staff is great, the food is very good, and if you like other McMenamin's locations, I bet you will like this one as well.

Confusing signage had us wandering the lush grounds trying to find the roadhouse, when the…read morerestaurant doesn't actually show that name on the signs. We were meeting a local friend, and found the parking lot and signage for the event venue out front to be confusing. Maps said we needed to walk half a mile around the property. So not a great start. We took a picnic table outside, since it wasn't yet 90 degrees that day. The patio is lovely, except for the bird and tree droppings all over the picnic tables. We tidied up and then ordered a round of drinks. I couldn't resist the blackberry cider, and husband had a dark beer while friend ordered diet coke. All good. She had a French dip sandwich which I didn't photograph, husband had a burger and tots, and I ordered a Cobb salad no bacon. The salad had a good portion of grilled chicken and hard boiled egg, with crumbles of blue cheese. I got ranch dressing which was homemade and fresh and let them toss it in the salad. It was a fine salad but not special. Same with the burger, it was ordinary but fine, although the seasoning on the tater tots was a nice surprise. What shocks me is how popular this chain of restaurants is, yet their prices are very high even for the area. Our friendly server came around pretty often even though we were the only ones in that section of the patio. We didn't order a second round, didn't need boxes and eventually she brought the payment kiosk to our table and closed the tab. I guess if we were looking for an event venue, this might be a great place. But given that the menu is the same at every McMenamins, I don't see a reason to check out any of the other locations. I love that they restore historical places and contribute to the local economy, but gastropubs with big prices are not really my jam.

You know how it goes- happy couple, candle light, 105 degree summer day... enchanting. One can't help being swept up in the moment of a intimate family wedding. Yet after having some time to reflect, I have to say that I adore this little chapel built when times were simpler in 1884. It only holds about 100 people, the entirely white interior clad in custom hammered tin shines in the glowing evening sunlight that passes through the stained glass windows. A little stuffy, but surprisingly cool given the asinine recent temperature highs. The surrounding gardens and reception area makes it a picturesque setting in the outskirts of Portland. From the minister walking down the aisle to the ringing of the bells as the bride and groom walk out the doors, it's really a lovely place for a wedding that goes off without a hitch. Yet a little part of me kind of hopes I never come back here, I'd hate to tarnish the memory I've made.

We got in before they got noticed and saved a bundle. A winter wedding here on a cold but sunny day. The sunlight glowing through the original 100+ year old stained glass windows and off the white, pressed tin ceiling and walls. Ivory pews, ivory walls, ivory all. We wore ivory, black and charcoal gray. Decorated with only evergreen boughs and silver urns. Just lovely. Good spot for just-the-couple photos on the front stoop. The owner is sweet as wedding cake ("honey", "sweetheart", etc) but just a bit scatter brained so keep notes and get a receipt. Don't patronize their vendor list for photographers, cakes or flowers--you can do far better elsewhere (see my other wedding related reviews). Bonus Tip: Check out The Antonia Ballroom for your reception needs (just two blocks north and one block east) and that's a good deal as well!

It's quiet, walkable, and has a surprising amount of hotel, shopping, dining and wine tasting options within a just a few blocks. We stayed nearby and were able to walk to this event space from our hotel. The building has a brick exterior and interior with polished concrete floors and natural wood accents. The event space features large indoor and outdoor spaces. And the outdoor space had several seating options, both covered and uncovered with lots of lush landscape and greenery throughout. For this particular event, food vendors were stationed in the outdoor space with covered tents while the wine tasting vendors were stationed inside. Both low and high top tables were setup throughout to allow for a variety of seating and mingling options. The bathrooms are individual stalls with two access points from the interior and exterior which allows for ease of access and flow. I think the layout of the space is great for a variety of functions and I would definitely attend another event at this space. Special thanks to the AAPI Food & Wine Fest and CHO Wines for another incredible event!

Despite this, they refused to return any portion of our deposit or apply it toward a future event. While I understand contracts exist for a reason, I was shocked at the complete lack of flexibility given how far in advance we canceled -- especially since the venue admitted September is one of their busiest months. To make matters worse, they later booked another event on the same date. That means they not only kept our deposit but also collected full payment from another client -- essentially double dipping on the same date. On top of this, attempts to communicate with Sarah Tynan were very disappointing. After emailing her directly multiple times to appeal for even partial consideration, I was simply ignored. Future clients should be aware: if anything unexpected happens in your life, don't expect compassion, flexibility, or even basic communication. Be absolutely certain before you sign, because once they have your deposit, you will not see it again -- even if they rebook your date and profit twice. This review reflects only a summary of my experience. I have full documentation of the communications and timeline to support the facts shared here.
