Yesterday I got my car washed. The man at the booth said a basic wash is "ten dollars, but for the same ten dollars, you can get unlimited washes." I asked how that works, and he said ten dollars would get me as many washes as I wanted. I thought about it, but decided I didn't want to deal with canceling a membership. So I went with the single wash. This morning, my credit card statement showed a charge for $16.05. I checked the receipt I'd thrown in my purse--$16.05. So I drove back this afternoon and asked if there had been a mistake. Today's cashier insisted that the employee would NEVER have said $10, they hadn't had a $10 wash in years, and there's no way any employee would have said that. I laughed and said, "So the customer is always WRONG?" Again, he insisted I had a receipt and could have looked at it. I said, "So I drove all the way back here just to lie to you?" (The words ten and fifteen sound nothing alike.) He would not back down, remaining on the defensive.
Honestly, I don't care about the five bucks either way. I do care that I was regarded as a liar, trying to con them out of five dollars. I won't be back. read more
