I was not sure what to expect since this was my 1st small craft guided fishing tournament. When it…read morecomes to trying out new things I go in with a prepare to be dissapointed mindset so anything that does work out is enjoyed more. That being said I had a blast my team won 2nd place. The fishing guides are awesome. The cabins are nice, the nights are cool and breezy. Now for the bad... for dinner I ate the shrimp pasta Alfredo and my stomach got pissed! I became so bloated I was in pain. I don't know what happened but I couldn't sleep that night. The morning after we ate breakfast at 5:30 am eggs bacon and a biscuit with juice or coffee was not bad but not that impressive it was okay. The only thing I do have to say is where are the hammocks not one hammock ? This place would be awesome at night if they had hammocks Hanging from the structure stilts

We have been to Hackberry 3 times and my husband absolutely loves it. He brings his own rods and…read moresuch. The guides do their best and use all their skill to put you on the fish. They are friendly and easygoing. Weather and conditions are uncontrollable of course. Once we went when the weather was pretty bad and the guide was honest enough to say "I'll go if you want but it's gonna be a hard day of fishing in these conditions. We were only asked to pay for food and lodging that time. Oh- They also filet your catch for you at the end of your tour. The food they serve is amazing and the service is wonderful If you are an angler of any caliber this is right up your alley. They host businesses and have a "night boat" that goes out overnight- but I haven't done that.

We thought this would be a great experience since he was on a tv show, however we were anything but…read morepleased. I would rather the owner/captain take this review as constructive advice. The boat was not in the best condition. He said he could take 4 people on an outing but the boat only had a seat for the driver and two seats built in. The other two people sat on an ice chest with a cushion on it. The boat rode horribly since it never properly planed out. (I felt like my vertebra were cracking from the jolting impact. A lot of Advil was taken after the fact.) The equipment used was rusted. The captain had an old style trolling motor so he stood in between two of the people fishing to move the boat around...and fish himself. The captain fished more than I did. Instead of asking if we wanted to keep the fish he just threw them back if they weren't red fish until we realized what he was doing and asked him to stop. But that didn't really matter because we didn't catch very many fish. The captain made comments about "If we don't catch anything in 30 minutes we won't catch anything here." YET...he stayed at each location for an hour or two. He made rude comments to the women because they didn't want to touch the live shrimp. He charged us for live shrimp as bait (which was fine with us) but ended up throwing 3/4 of the shrimp away because they died (this was not ok with us). Instead of keeping the shrimp in a proper container that was shrimp friendly (cool and aerated) he would fill up a bucket and fish with it for a bit until they were dead (which they died quickly). A lot of money was wasted at our expense since he charged us for the shrimp on top of the fee. My husband thought he gave the captain a $50 tip at the end of the day when he finished up the bill (which I was 200% against) but had forgotten the captain charged $50 extra for the 4th person. The captain stayed at the back of our truck doing the forced small talk (which was awkward since we just wanted to leave) until my husband realized the additional fee he had forgotten about. Magically, when he offered up the tip, the captain moved from the back of the truck and wished us a safe trip home. What upset me the most was at one point we hadn't caught a single fish in about 2 hours (we were staying in the same location) and I mentioned two or three times rather loudly that I was bored and not having a good time. (I thought he would have taken that as a hint to move us somewhere to catch at least one fish.) He completely ignored my comments. My husband and I accidently tangled our lines up and got into an argument. Instead of trying to help, he ignored there was any problem and continued fishing. We honestly felt as though we were on his fishing trip and our money paid for him to fish. I hope this review gets back to the owner/captain so that he can work on his customer service. Please service your boat and equipment. Please have working equipment. Please be kind to your customers. Please realize the trip is not about you but about making sure your customers have a good time. If you would like to fish, please do it on your time and your money, not on others. Just so you know, this fishing experience was the first trip my husband and I have taken since we have been married. Not just that, but it was the first trip we have taken sans our daughter. If we could do the trip over again, we would not use your service.
