Wonderful smoothies and bowels! We love it. It's a must try while in Princeton. We lived in Princeton for a while but didn't come here until after a yoga class as we were looking for food! The ingredients are amazing and super fresh! I think it's important to have that quality while operating a juice bar! We got the protein bowel and I don't even like peanut butter. My husband is obsessed and so I decided to take a bite. Needless to say I ate more than half of his! The acai was yummy and I do believe they are frozen- I could totally be wrong. They blend the berries to a cold icy pulp and place it in the bottom of the bowel! As I'm writing this review- my mouth is literally watering for it! I really wanted to like Tico's. Their fruit is very fresh and the service is friendly and quick. Locals love this place and I came here on the recommendation that it was better than Frutta Bowls. I got their pura vida bowl and while the fruit was great, the açaí was very icy. It had better flavor than that of Frutta Bowls, but I did not enjoy the texture. Paired with the very crunchy granola, the bowl didn't have the pleasant experience I associate with eating açaí. While tasty, I would stick to their juices and other items. read more

I've only been to Tico's a handful of times in the last couple years. The juices and smoothies are really good (I buy them bottled quite often around campus where Tico's is retailed); however, I've generally found it way overpriced, and my most recent experience confirmed that. I tried the Nutty Professor acai bowl. This time, not only was it overpriced, but the taste of the acai itself wasn't great either. The fruit, peanut butter, and walnuts themselves were fine - nothing spectacular. The acai was icy, which wasn't to my liking. I definitely feel like I could make a better acai bowl in my dorm room. And it was $10 for a bowl. That's just not worth it for my college student budget! I won't be back for the acai bowls, but would recommend the juices (especially the orange mango juice)! read more

This is an update about their food. Tried out their lunch options today and was satisfied but not impressed. The Napa Valley chicken panini had an unusual vinaigrette dressing that was a bit off putting for me, and the turkey harvarti panini was only average. But the prices were quite reasonable and their drinks are still solid. Update #2: Came back and tried a turkey wrap. Was good, but could have done without the balsamic vinegar (thankfully it was only lightly applied). The tortilla wrap itself is MUCH better than than the one at Princeton Soup and Sandwich (whose tortilla wrap was stiff and hard). read more

WOWWOWWOW I love this place!!! I was feeling sweaty when the weather all of a sudden got warm, and decided to come to Tico's to try out the acai bowl. It absolutely did not disappoint! I ordered the Nutty Professor, and it was so delicious. Albeit overpriced (let's be real, everything in Princeton is overpriced), the portion size was good and I felt completely refreshed after eating my bowl. The peanut butter is all natural and the walnuts add an extra crunch. I've been going to Frutta because it's more conveniently located, but I'm definitely switching to Tico's from now on. read more

I loved the green monster juice. It was expensive but good. By California or Los Angeles standards, this juice bar is just fine, but they could not charge nearly this much because there are much nice juice bar chains that use organic fresh produce every few blocks or so. Wednesday late afternoon my daughter calls and says hey dad my friend told me about a place called Tico's in Princeton you want to go? Now I know she loves me but I know she wants me to pay lol. Sorry daddy's little girl right? So off we go. Once we arrive we were lucky to find a parking spot near by and paid our $1 for 30 min of parking. We walk in and its a cute trendy place to just hang out. I ordered the nutty professor acai with nuts, banana, strawberry and peanut butter. We also ordered a BBQ chicken quesadilla. The acai i was not use to being a slush like acai cold on the teeth. However it was very good but a little smaller then fruit a bowl. But definitely enough. This little place in Princeton actually had the best quesadilla I ever had, the BBQ sauce was lite and the taste sneaked up on you. The chicken was fresh and the crust was slightly thicker so it did not breaking you. The owner was behind the counter and she was so nice and helpful. The total bill was $19. FALSE ADVERTISING. I come here often to get smoothies and love the option of omitting the dairy, and still having the drink really smooth. I really craved a good smoothie bowl one day and was intrigued by the Tico bowl because it had coconut milk in it. I ordered it, ate it outside, and was totally confused that the bottom of the bowl's texture was chopped up ice. I compared my bowl to other customers Tico bowl and mine was basically solid with no liquid consistency. Went back to ask if my bowl had coconut milk and long story short he said they SOMETIMES mix it in and sometimes don't, just depends on which batch they use....which doesn't make sense. Manager came around asked me what's wrong, grabbed 10 dollars to give to me and walked away. He could not have been ruder. I used to go to Ticos at least once a week and will never go back. I've found many acai bowl places but none hold a candle to this place. There are so many kinds of bowls to try, and they always taste and look delicious, and are well worth the price. Coming here was always the highlight of the morning, especially getting to interact with the friendly staff. Just had a terrible experience at Tico's. It was my first time going in there so I took a little longer than usual to decide what I wanted. The board of smoothies was the first thing I saw when I walked in. The owner of the place took my order. As he was going to back to get the ingredients for my smoothie I noticed the juice bar and decided to change my order to a green juice. When he came back from the back room with the ingredients I apologized and asked if it would be ok if I switched my order to a juice. The guy SLAMMED what he was holding down on the counter and said "maybe you shouldn't be here if you don't know what you want!" WOAH!!! In what universe is that an ok way to talk to a customer let alone a human being!? Needless to say I promptly left the place with a disgusted look on my face. I work at a bakery and would be fired on the spot if I ever talked like that to my customers or my coworkers. Being around rude and nasty people ruins my appetite. If I had stayed and gotten the juice I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it. I used to frequent Tico's fairly often in the hot summer, craving their thick smoothies on a daily basis. I don't know if my tastes have changed, but I find their smoothies now to be too sweet. They use yogurt to thicken it up, which I like, but the "fruit" comes out of a jug. I guess I should know better especially when I order a smoothie made of guava, mango and passionfruit in the dead of winter. I think I was also spoiled by the cheap fruit trucks in NY that I discovered this summer that would use 100% fruit. So if you're a smoothie snob, I probably wouldn't recommend Tico's. However, there are still many redeeming qualities. Their quesadillas are all fantastic (and very filling). The quesadilla (choice of regular, wheat or spinach) is grilled so it has a nice toasty exterior filled with melty cheese and whatever meats/veggies you want to put in there. Their chicken salad wrap is also quite good -- it's mixed with large chunks of grapes so it balances out the otherwise heaviness of the mayo. Paninis are great too. I haven't found anything on the lunch menu that has been disappointing yet. But what to drink??? FRESH APPLE JUICE. They have a juicer so they can make a fairly wide variety of fresh fruit/veggie juice. It doesn't come cheap, as it's pretty much the price of a smoothie, but it tastes like the juices of 100 apples.. which it pretty much is. I like how each of the menu item correspond with an element like a headache or depression. Very helpful when choosing. Before Tico's opened up as a store in Princeton, my favorite thing to look forward to was getting their juices from their little tent set up at the Farmer's Market every Thursday. You could either ask them for juices on the menu, or you could ask them to make a custom one for you with any fruits that you like, and they would make it fresh right in front of you! Needless to say, when they finally opened up shop a few years ago, I was thrilled. Instead of only getting a chance to fulfill my Tico's cravings at the Farmer's Market, I could now do it whenever I want. In addition to their juices, their smoothies are absolutely amazing. My favorite one is the Tropical Storm. Super thick, creamy, and perfectly sweet. Others like Mango Madness, Jamaican Jammer, and Georgia Peach are also among my favorites. Make sure to get a punch card- they really come in handy for frequent customers like me! Every time you buy a smoothie you get a hole punch. Once you finally reach 10 punches, you get a free smoothie! Not to mention, their acai bowls are to die for. I personally love the Pura Vida bowl. Its your classic acai bowl, but something about Tico's makes it so much better. Instead of the base being a smoothie like consistency like from other places, this kind has a refreshing and tasty frozen-slushy type consistency. I go regularly for lunch and am never disappointed. My favorite is Jose's Chicken Salad in a Spinach Wrap with a side of macaroni salad. The owners know this is my favorite and remember how to make it without asking (no tomatoes, extra lettuce). I love the Jamaica Jammer smoothie -- I alternate between having it made with ice and made with yogurt. They also have awesome hummus and a great variety of panini. A good amount of tables so you can eat in, but take out is quick and efficient. Reasonable prices for downtown Princeton -- definitely a little less than their competitors. I have used them for catering several large events and they always bring plenty of food and are prompt to arrive. They will work with you to customize your catering however you desire.
