Through the app I messaged Zackrey, he got back with 30 minutes. I told him what I wanted: to…read moreinstall a pre-hung door between the kitchen and front room. I send him pictures and measurements of the opening. I double checked with him on the door size I eventually bought. He responded with a few words, or a sentence. Told me he'd do it for $100. He didn't asked where I lived, or tell me what time to expect him on the date we established for the install. I wrote him the address and asked the time. He confirmed: 9AM. The day comes but it's not him who shows up. It's an enthusiastic, young worker who Zackrey sent to the job instead of himself. Unfortunately, the worker didn't have the expertise in carpentry (yet) to pull off the job without scratching several places along the entrance/wall to the kitchen, unevenly cutting the door on the top and bottom, chopping off the trim 3-4 inches from the floor in two places, leaving spackle on the walls around the door, installing the knob upside down, removing the trim on a whole side of the door and recommending I buy and install it instead of using the trim - that they had cut horrendously crooked - partially to blame was the saw which had seen better days. I found out from this worker that Zackrey had decided that morning to ditch work and leave to another state for an undisclosed amount of time. This poor worker was receiving job after job, slated to do after my door, at the end of the day it was around 10 jobs and the stress was palpable. From 9-4 the work went on - the worker tried as hard as they could, and I helped as much as I could but, ultimately, the job was one that only a skilled, seasoned carpenter could've pulled off without problems, and in the hour that Zackrey had scheduled this job to take. After the worker left, I was left with a door and trim that looked horrible, sloppy, and incomplete. It didn't close, it didn't lock. Now, I don't blame the worker, who maintained a positive can-do attitude throughout the whole ordeal. However, I do blame Zackrey who didn't respond to my email after the worker left. I asked him to come back and make it right. No response. Unprofessional. Totally. I have pictures of the work that I will post on the Gastonia facebook group if anyone is interested. Now I have to hire a real handyman.
