Why shop here when there are better Tibet/Nepal businesses. The owner or salesperson at this shop was rude and nasty. I just walked away. Great location fun specimens and silver jewelery. Same found anywhere. The food stalls in this mall are fantastic. Not telling anyone not to visit while eating,but spend elsewhere. read more

I highly recommend Tibet Souvenirs to everyone. !!! I have been purchasing various items from the Tibet Souvenirs store for many, many years. They have moved to a different location, now on Shattuck Avenue, near to Chez Panisse, in the courtyard with many vendors of food and other items. The Owner has always been very helpful, and very courteous, and has many different items that he sells: Clothing, scarves, jewelry, purses, etc. This store is smaller, but very neat, and very well organized. He still has a good inventory of many items. I always find what I want, and even find more than what I had planned to buy :-) To repeat: I highly recommend Tibet Souvenirs to everyone. read more

I came in on a whim after seeing a pretty knitted infinity scarf in the window. I wasn't dressed warm enough for the weather and needed something. But I got more than I bargained for... a very nice talk with the passionate owner, who not only gave me a deal on the scarf but told me all about the plight of Tibetans. He explained that nothing in the store was actually made in Tibet but places like India where refugees now live. It's very important to him to be able to provide income to these artisans and to educate his customers about Tibet. Sadly though, his rent keeps going up. Please support this business so that he can keep on helping displaced Tibetans. The scarf I got is super lightweight, well made and my new favorite thing. While I was there I also noticed lots of beautiful jewelry. The owner is generous with discounts and is trying to do something good! read more

I absolutely love this store! Have been walking in almost once a week for the past few weeks. Today bought a colorful stole for a friend and wrapped it up in a nice rice paper cover which has a handpainted leaf! Here gift ideas are limitless, colorful and unique. Definitely fit into your student budget. I have bought cotton pants, frilly skirts, wrap around skirts and jewelery that is gorgeous n hip! Great inventory, very friendly shopkeeper. If looking for spiritual gifts, this is the place.

I feel so out of sync with all the other reviewers... The deal is that everything 'looks cheap.' That's my main issue. True, they do have a wall of earrings and racks of colorful skirts and loose pants but the jewelry looks like it hasn't gone through the final stages of finishing (i.e. jagged edges, discolored silver - do you want to polish when you get home?). Also the fabric that the clothing was made out of was scratchy and the stitching wasn't of particular quality. This shop is great if you are the trendy type and like to jump on and off band wagons without spending too much money to get the look ..and then move on. If however, you're like me and like to plan out the content and quality of your wardrobe...the only things I would suggest buying there are the colorful, soft scarves they have on display out front. The harshness of my criticism I guess comes from learning how to sew and making jewelry (go hobbies!)...It's just drawn my attention to the details and maybe that's what's spoiled this place for me. There's a place in North Beach that I like and sells better quality shtuff. It's on Grant Ave between (I think it's) Green and Union, but it could also be a block farther down between Vallejo and Green. The guy working at the shop is super nice and I'm sorry I didn't buy anything. I just ache for small businesses right now... ;o( read more

Once again, I had a great experience at this store. I got a big beautiful silver and moonstone ring, a sexy backless white gauze sundress and a great skirt. I find the chants playing in the background to be really soothing. And the guy that works there (maybe the owner - he's always there) is laid back, no pressure, mellow. read more

My daughter went to UC Berkeley and we found this little shop walking around one day. We purchased a few of the soft scarves/stoles on display displayed outside. They are incredibly inexpensive. I saw some similar in Palo yesterday for more than 3x as much. She visited Berkeley last week and I asked her to buy me 5 more. I also purchased a lovely set of meditation gongs - the sound is so beautiful. The man in the shop wrapped them for me very nicely as they were a gift. The shop has a lot of fun things, not all clothes, so it is delightful to shop in. As other reviewers have commented, the owners are delightful. It is a fun shopping experience. read more

Looking for a nice singing bowl that can hold a long beautiful, not too high pitched, lower sounding, calming note when it's striked AND also be able to sing when wooden stick? goes around bowl with a nice singing sound. Found it here. She was very knowledgeable, calm energy and knew which ones to show me. She helped make me feel assured and selected the perfect one that felt right for me. After disappointing visits to the various Tibetan gift shops on Solano, I was delighted to find Indian print cotton bedspreads at Tibet Souvenirs. (If you're a child of the 60's like me you might think finding Indian print bedspreads in any college town should be like shooting fish in a barrel, but apparently this is no longer the case!) The selection was not huge, but the ones they had were all pretty and very well-priced, and the friendly, helpful owner immediately offered a discount. Matching curtains too. In general, the selection seemed broader and different compared to the various other Tibetan shops I'd tried which all seemed to have the same stuff. read more
