I took the kid (on their first visit to Manchester) for some proper northern chippy. Kingfisher did not disappoint. Fresh food, super friendly service, an all round winner. Not at all pretentious or flash, this place has plastic seats and tables screwed into the floor. If you're used to London prices, it's really cheap. It's the real deal

Review Highlights - Tib Street Chippy

Easily knocking Leo's Fish Bar off the top spot for chippies in the Northern Quarter, Kingfisher has it all wrapped up and drenched in vinegar.

Ordered the Haddock Fish with an order of chips and mushy peas. Fish was great! Chips were decent, not the best, but the fish was definitely the star of the show, cooked to perfection in a light, not overly oil-saturated batter. The kind lady behind the counter let me try a dollop of their gravy (it was wonderful)! Such a gem with good quality food in a no frills package! Great for a quick lunch or dinner as you're walking about and exploring the area. Would definitely come back!

I instead order a battered sausage and some chips. the ambiance was terrible with a thick clammy smell as if there was no airflow for years. Alright food but wouldn't consider going back until they figure out their problems and get their priorities straight and hire new faster less judging eyeing staff who clearly did not like my appearance and hope they figure out what the smell is and that they remove it immediately. really a shame about those because the food was great and five stars just wasn't worth the wait and the smell.

Their name states it is a Fish bar…read morebut they also sell chicken, they do takeaway with Just Eat, they sell donner beat, and even do eat in food. I don't like this approach as it makes it feel messy, and not a great place to eat in, and it makes me feel they are sacrificing quality and the nature of it being a fish and chip shop, by selling lots of other different things, making it more of a takeaway where you can sit and eat. The fish seems to be done fresh to order, as they don't do gluten free, I just came in with my friend who ordered his meal. He said he didn't enjoy it and it was very poor. Leo's Fish Bar rightly so are trying to try their best to survive in Manchester city center, even taking clubcard vouchers, but it isn't a very nice place to eat in, the staff don't seem too helpful and by selling so many foods, it ruins the nature of it being a homemade fish and chip shop, and when they is so many places to eat in Manchester, I really don't understand why someone would go to a takeaway, which doesn't even seem to know what it is doing. They didn't seem to have a gluten free menu either, and although it was reasonable, it could have been cleaner with nicer decor, especially in the seating and cooking areas.
