Absolutely wonderful! My friend and I came here when we were at the state parks in the area, and what a find this was! We were able to sit at a sunny outdoor table, and the food, drinks, and service were excellent. Our waitress even brought me a fresh, warm coffee when mine started getting cold. I had the pot pie, and my friend had the grilled cheese, and we loved both of them. We were seriously discussing making the drive back (1.5 hours from Chicago) to go to this place again soon! read more

Was not expecting to have my tastebuds elevated to a heavenly level, but we stopped by based on good reviews for this gem after a hike at starved rock. My boyfriend got the short ribs and grits, I ordered the quesadilla....and holy s*!t. The quesadilla was great especially because I didn't want something too heavy. But the short ribs and blue cheese grits were out of this world. My bf was iffy on the grits, but the staff let him try a bite before placing the order. Needless to say, he was won over instantly. The blue cheese is very subtle, not overpowering in the slightest....honestly you just have to go yourself and try the food. Whoever is in the kitchen knows what the heck they're doing. We love this place! Farm to table, wholesome foods, vegetarian options. I would love it if some of their grain dishes were gluten free. The hard Kombucha's are delicious! Call ahead to see if they're open because we have been by during business hours and found them closed during covid while they do have a patio that should be open for business. We came here for the first time in the lull between Christmas and New Years looking for something fresh and we found it here. Our group of three ordered two appetizers to share and different entrees. The hummus was absolutely delicious, with my daughter describing it as "the bomb dot com", whatever that means. I can only assume it's a compliment. The pork belly tacos were good, if a little small, and my husband was very happy with his burger. There were even homemade pickles, and the side potatoes were really crisp and delicious! My daughter had the pozole, which she said was excellent. All in all we had a very excellent meal here. The bourbon peanut chocolate pie was also a 10/10. read more

Their head chef is amazing with his choices and I like their cocktail menu too... A hidden gem in a town known for pizza and bar food. We arrived in the middle afternoon on a hot windy fall day. We sat outside and enjoyed the shade that falls early on the outdoor seating. We started with an IPA and an Arnito (SP? which was slightly sweet with a lovely balance of fruitiness and mint both of which were subtle). The chicken wing appetizer did not disappoint. The juicy flavorful wings came intact with the skin still holding onto a crispness all the while being accompanied by a lovely spicy Asian sauce. I rested the burger with no cheese due to diary intolerance. The burger with crispy potatoes is very satisfying. The potatoes are torn apart then fried so there are crispy edges with a sturdy interior. I ordered the burger without cheese and the flavor balance was still strong. My partner ( a man of few words), regarding the salmon sandwich and red pepper soup, stated, "I'll order that again. " His food compliments don't get much stronger than that. Our waitress was friendly, attentive to my unfortunate food limitations and helpful. We will most certainly go out of our way to eat here the next time we are in town. read more

What an incredible place. This farm to table restaurant offers delicious food that's anything but mainstream. Even the simple healthy winter grain bowl was a flavor explosion. I've never had a bad meal there. Definitely recommend this as a departure from the ordinary. They also have some great Bourbons and other local drinks. The Staff is very attentive and friendly. Food is usually good but this time we ordered the spicy chicken sandwich, when it came out the bun was burnt and chicken was also burnt. Then we ordered a hamburger and it had no flavor the fried potato's were really good with the aioli sauce. Our waiter was very rude and did not check to see if we needed anymore water or condiments. I would say give this place a try but do not order the Spicy Chicken Sandwich it is awful. read more

My wife and I discovered Thyme Craft Kitchen shortly after they opened a year or so ago, and we come back as often as possible... and we live over an hour away if that tells you how much we like it! Definitely one of the best farm to table restaurants in Illinois. Their menu is creative and the flavor of their dishes is always exceptional. My wife is on a very restricted diet (for health reasons) and Anthony goes above and beyond to create her a special dish which both tastes great and is safe for her to eat. And Rob and the rest of their staff have always gone out of their way to be sure our dining experience is the best. We're hoping to travel up to Peru again this weekend with some family and friends and take them to Thyme Craft Kitchen and I'm already excited and looking forward to it! Very inventive menu. Started with a Star Union 75/25 old fashion (outrageously wonderful). Had Arancini Balls and was surprised that peas, cheese balls with tomato/red pepper sauce could be so delicious. Ordered Bo Kho (Vietnamese Beef Stew). Absolutely amazing food. We stopped in by chance to kill some time before our wine tasting close by at August Hill Winery. We had the Watermelon Muchim to start. I love the idea of Farm to Fork so I was very excited to try Thyme. I was also excited reading the menu as I knew many of the farmers that were sources here. I ordered the grass-fed hamburger, rare, with no bun and added a fried egg and a salad with mint dressing. The others ordered the grilled cheese sandwich, the beet salad & the rotisserie chicken sandwich. The sandwiches had a side of crispy potatoes. My burger arrived medium, to medium well and the fried egg was over cooked with a solid yolk. The butter braised onions were too salty to eat, the remoulade tasted like mayo and I could not detect even the hint of mint in the salad. The house pickles were very good. I have never had a sweet pickle on a burger before, but I didn't dislike it. The grilled cheese arrived on a hoagie bun and there was much more bun than cheese. The cheddar was partially melted, but had already started to cool and solidify, making it difficult to eat. The piece of local bacon on the sandwich was about the size of a half-dollar. The chicken sandwich was equally disappointing. It consisted of what seemed like half a rotisserie chicken breast, tomatoes & arugula lettuce and no roasted onion or herb ailoi. My friend ended up taking the sandwich apart and just eating the filling. She remarked it was dry. The yellow beet salad was very pretty. The menu listing said it was served with goat cheese, onion, orange, mint, pistachio, sumac spice, mint dressing. My friend asked for no onions as she is allergic. The salad came with beets, onions, goat cheese and a dressing with no detectable mint flavor. There was also a lack of orange & pistachios. The service was good, the food arrived quickly and the restaurant was clean. The food was alright, but disappointing for both the concept and the price. read more

This place has been hit or miss. We have always gotten food as takeout and typically there is at least one thing wrong. We've had the potato's be burnt, we've had entire ingredients missing from a sandwich, we've had the bread of the sandwich toasted until it was hard as a rock and charred. I appreciate the idea behind this restaurant- slightly upscale farm to table with unique flavors is a wonderful idea and bringing world-wide flavors to IL Valley is a must, but the execution is typically lacking. My favorite [when it was served correctly] was the Bahn Mi pork sandwich and the duck curry. The side salads were dark leafy greens and I liked that. read more

Coming from the Chicago suburbs, we met family and was pleasantly surprised with this farm-to-table restaurant that we experience often near us; however, our family, that lives downstate, doesn't have this option. We came into Peru to visit friends at their distillery and after some tastings we needed to get some food. Thyme came highly recommended, and being advertised as "Farm to Table", we were sold. It's a nice and clean place, tables spaced nicely, and inviting. Our waiter was very kind and attentive, unfortunately I forget his name. We ordered the crispy potatoes which comes with an aioli. This was very good, although some sort of a picey sauce and maybe a honey mustard would have been great, but still good how it came. I ordered the Venison Ribeye with a pea puree, and it was incredibly delicious. Cooked to a perfect medium rare. My wife ordered the duck breast with fried rice. The rice was so damn good, but unfortunately the duck was dry and over cooked. I brought this up to our server, who apologized and let the kitchen know. Server comes back and asks if we would like a desert to make up for the duck being over cooked. No offer to remake the duck at all. The manager even came over to apologize but again only an offer of dessert or a drink, still no offer to remake to duck. We even told them we want to take the rice home and to throw away the duck. I have never in all my experiences at restaurants and dining out, if there was an issue, not had an offer to remake it or remove it from the bill. What we have learned here is if you order food and it is over cooked, oh well, you pay for it and it won't be remade. Such a shame and for that we will skip coming back. read more

On a recent trip down to Starved Rock I wasn't sure what kind of vegetarian / vegan options would be available for dinner. I came upon Thyme Craft Kitchen's menu - the options looked good - and taste-wise they didn't disappoint. I ordered the Kimchi pancakes, summer squash salad, shakshuka (one of the best I've ever had) and the grain bowl. Flavors for all the dishes were spot-on and I loved that the pancakes and shakshuka had a little kick to them as well. I placed the order online and picked it up. Everyone inside was extremely courteous and most importantly - wearing a mask. The only letdown? That this farm-to-table eatery is not closer to Chicago. For the freshness of the ingredients and the taste - I found the prices very reasonable. read more
