She was so reassuring with one of our nervous riders, told us stories about the horse's personalities, and gave us recommendations for her favorite spots in town. She truly made the experience. We were the only group at the ranch, which made for a very personal feel. The ranch provided beverages for us after the ride to top it all off. Our entire group agreed that we would come back and ride with Saddleback Ranch again in a heartbeat. I don't think there's a better use of your money or time while you're in Steamboat!

Now, I'm not gonna lie, for a family of five it was pricey. But, I have to say it was TOTALLY WORTH IT! Chris and his crew provided a once in a lifetime experience for us. They picked us up where we were staying and drove us an hour out to the edge of the national forest for our adventure! The staff was really friendly and you could tell they really cared for their dogs. They were family to them. After a quick crash course( no pun intended) on driving the sled and meeting the dogs, off we went! We had two sleds and the escorted us on snowmobiles, but didn't interfere with our experience at all. They gave a few pointers throughout the run, but let us enjoy it completely. We had two stops on the way in and two stops on the way out. This allowed them to evaluate the dogs, take pictures and make sure we were doing well and switch drivers. All the dogs wanted to do was run! Made me tired just watching them. All in all it was an absolutely gorgeous trip. We did 8-9 miles through the forest, along the Elk River with snow covered trees surrounding us. The slower pace allowed us to really enjoy the beauty of Gods creation. And it started to lightly snow as we made our way in. The weather was perfect and the scenery picturesque! Once we got back to our starting point we were provided hot cocoa and apple cider and cookies. And then got to hang out with dogs! They were so lovable and so happy they got to do what they love. We all had our faves, which included Chewbaca, Phoebe, Snape and Toby. But, they were all awesome! Unfortunately, that was the end of the tour. But, we had the ride back to the hotel. To be able to go snow cat skiing has always been a Bucket List item of mine. This past January, my…read morefriends and I were able to check it off and we were so glad we chose Steamboat Powder Cats. This is a first rate operation! From the time I first called and spoke with Ken on the phone to make our reservation until we were dropped off at the end of the day back at our hotel, our experience could not have been better! Everyone was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and professional. Our guides Kevin, Luc and Britni were outstanding! Did I mention the powder? SPC has a permit that allows them to access thousands of acres of nearly untouched powder in Buffalo Pass just outside the town of Steamboat Springs and the Steamboat ski resort. We signed up with the Level 3 group, which means you have to be an expert to go on this particular cat. Ken advised me there was nothing "extreme" (i.e. cliffs jumps and one hundred foot drops) about the Level 3 cat; we just had to be very comfortable on any type of black diamond run you would find at most resorts and be able to confidently navigate deep powder and tight trees. I have been lucky over the years to have several great powder days under my belt. Those were only a teaser to what we were able to experience with SPC because when most resorts get a good dump of fresh powder, it is usually tracked up by mid-afternoon. On our day with SPC, we logged fourteen runs of mid-calf high powder on every run. It felt truly exhilarating and life-affirming. Several times I found myself screaming at the top of my lungs out of sheer excitement. I have never been so happy to be completely spent at the end of the day. It was an unforgettable experience!

From start to finish, everything was seamless, getting picked up and shuttled to snowcat base, rentals, and boarding some of the freshest powder imaginable. Steamboat Powdercats handled our trip with military precision. The crew did an amazing job selecting terrain that challenged the pros while still supporting and encouraging our newer snowboarders and skiers. Lunch was provided and was absolutely DELICIOUS. We boarded the gondola a few minutes before our allotted time and arrived at Thunderhead Lodge. We were greeted by Laura who had us congregate in the Lodge before our snowcat ride. Our snowcat arrived and we were given a heads up by our driver regarding the ride to our final destination, Four Points Lodge. The ride was a fun way to travel up the mountain with only some very bright lights for guidance and the expertise of our driver. We arrived 10 minutes later and were greeted by Cliff, the restaurant manager. We were next given a breakdown of how the evening was to proceed. We debarked the snowcat and were seated at our table. From there we selected a nice Cabernet. Our server, Jordan, was very attentive throughout the evening even offering photos inside AND outside the restaurant. Know that by day this is a utilitarian ski lodge, but by night this turns into a fine dining establishment. The food was exemplary. We started with antipasti plate. Onward to a Tuscan bean soup and Caesar salad. All were very tasty and well presented. I selected the chicken plate and my wife the salmon. Both dishes were expertly prepared. Vacasa should do a better job of managing this condo complex just because of the pricing to stay here, not sure we will stay here again. Oh am the stack washer dryer in this unit, the washer is on the fritz stops mid cycle. Oh and 1 hot tub is not working. Vacasa your crew is doing a poor job here at Dulany I expect better! 3 Stars !!

I understand that Christmas/New Year week warrants peak season pricing - and we certainly paid a premium. The check-in process provided by Mogul Ski World and Vacasa is woeful. We had to wait outside the condo for more than 90 minutes after check-in time (check-in time is insanely late at 5pm). What I wasn't prepared for was the shockingly disappointing presentation of Apartment 306. It presents in what looks like original condition with little to no money being reinvested by the owner despite the unbelievably high rate they charge visitors to stay. - No working vacuum cleaner - Disgusting washing up brushes provided - No pantry space (kitchen cupboards filled with "stuff') - Cooking equipment not fit for use (knives, pots/pans should be trashed) - Bathrooms - Heat lamps not working - Ceiling leaking for several days - Garbage bin cracked and leaked over the floor - Laundry - doors removed and not replaced, very noisy and unsightly - Bedroom wardrobe - doors removed Do not stay in this apartment/condo - we have been completely ripped off and disappointed with the service agents - Mogul Ski World (mogulski.com.au) and Vacasa (vacasa.com). Do not use either of these agents.

I still remember the phrase "Champagne Powder" from back in the day, and the light, dry snow and beautiful aspen tree skiing lived up to the billing. I was young and pretty clueless about the broader ski world when I first visited, but with many more years and places since, I appreciate even more how welcoming, unpretentious, and genuinely Western Steamboat felt. I've been fortunate to visit in both winter and summer, and the town is remarkably special in either season. Winter brings the skiing, while some of my favorite summer memories are tubing down the Yampa River and going to the rodeo, experiences that make Steamboat feel like much more than a ski resort. It has been a long time since my last visit, and the mountain has clearly evolved considerably since then. Still, the combination of spectacular terrain, Western heritage, and an unusually warm sense of place is what has stayed with me. Highly recommended.
