This review is specifically for the mini golf. Both courses are well maintained and fun and it's become a yearly tradition for us. Easily one of the best mini golf spots on the island. My only critique is the lack of enforcement when it comes to group sizes. While there's a posted rule stating no more than four players per hole, it's not actively monitored. As a result large groups (sometimes eight or more) can slow things down significantly, leading to long lines and extended wait times. If this rule were enforced, this would be a five star review. read more

In the park the food place has no prices on the menu. I ordered a sandwich for myself and fries for my Grandson and 2 cokes. $34.00. They have a sitting area to eat your food but people use these tables to leave towels and bags. This area should be designated for food only. Also the guards here seem miserable. Thundering Surf Water Park is a nice little waterpark for families with small children. There's a new section called Cowabunga Beach, that is perfect for kids under 7. It has a nice variety of water slide that children can go down themselves. On the tallest water slide in this section a parent or older child can have a toddler sit on his/her lap. My kid and I went down this slide maybe 10-12 times. There's also a splash area for young toddlers. For the older kids/adults there is a lazy river and a 6 track water slide which you go down with a tube and deposits you into a large pool. Really fun and refreshing. There's also the "Flowrider" which is for boogie boarding and stand up flow boarding. We didn't try this, but I imagine good for kids/adults who like to surf or boogie board. As far as pricing, you pick either a 2 hour session or 3 hour session. We stayed for 2 hours and was sufficient. We didn't rest or stop to eat. Its about $29 for over 42 inches tall, $23.99 for under 42 inches. 2 and under is $13.99. Overall, on a hot summer day, its a perfect way to spend a morning or afternoon. We went on a Wednesday morning which was still pretty busy. Weekends are probably super crowded. read more

This review is going to be about the ice cream. So I took my siblings to the water park and we had fun but at the end we wanted to get some food to end our trip. My little sister wasn't interested in the playa bowl stall like me and my brother were so we went over to the front area to get ice creams. We got three small ice creams on a sugar cone. There were three teen girls working there at that time and the one that took my order was nice enough...but what we got wasn't... I could tell that the ice creams were rock hard in the containers so I know how hard it is to scoop them but that doesn't warrant giving us the TINIEST ice creams ever. We got a single unbelievably small scoop on top of each cone. For four dollars each?? I don't think so. LBI prices are expensive, but it's not this ridiculous. I also work at an ice cream place on the island, and our smalls are 3x the size and around the same price. I'm always giving people a generous amount. Anyways, 4 stars for the water park (too expensive for what it is tho) and 0 stars for the ice cream (playa bowl was wayyyy better) read more

This place is very small. There is an area for small children, a lazy river, and two waterslides for older kids and adults. Admission prices are very high for what you are getting. Aside from lifeguards and some employees wearing masks, there was no enforcement of social distancing or wearing masks. They were markers for social distancing on the floor in all places where one would stand on line, but these were largely ignored and completely unenforced. The grill/restaurant was the worst with both customers and employees on top of each other. The folks preparing the food were not masked. We saw an employee use his teeth to open a packaging cheese! This review omits the water park and, instead, focuses on the ice cream shop and mini golf. We've been coming here for years. The mini golf is one of the best in LBI. The courses are creative and fun, with twists and turns over wooden bridges and under waterfall caverns. In fact, there are two separate paths you can take, making multiple visits worth it. The course is also well maintained and clean. It can get a little crowded, and suffers from the "people waiting right behind you" problem most other mini golf courses have. The ice cream shop is fantastic! They have a standard array of flavors and toppings, and can do most anything you might want to order from an ice cream shop. What makes this place so unique (and the reason we come back) is that they serve Dippin' Dots! Those little cryogenically frozen ice cream beads are hard to find. They serve not just one or two flavors, but an entire assortment of flavors. Our most recent visit was when they had the Kettle Corn flavor on special, which was a delicious sweet and salty mix. You can also expect the classic Dots flavors, such as Mint Chocolate Chip, Banana Split, and Cookies n Cream. Parking can be a little difficult because of how crowded Bay Village and Fantasy Island can get, but once inside there is ample seating. Never tried the water park, but it looks like it might be fun if that's your thing. read more

My 3 year old loves the water and loves slides. What better than water slides! We went here on a Tuesday morning around 10:30 and there was no line to buy wrist bands. We chose the 2 hour ticket since we didn't know how long we would last. We got in everything we wanted to do in 2 hours. The toddler area is great for young kids! The small slides and water features are fun and safe. There are life guards on duty every where so it's super safe! The lazy river could have been better. There were no water features working when we went so literally you sat in a tube and just moved around. Not pleased with that ride. The tube slides were fun. In Covid times the social distance rules didn't seem to apply so well. It's not their fault. You just have to be diligent to try to stay away from people. That was really my only concern. Everything else was a lot of fun! We had a blast and are looking forward to going back one more time before the week is over. read more

This water park is pretty lame for the amount you pay. My friend and I bought three hours tickets for 40 dollars each, and we left an hour early! It's one of the places that once you do the ride once you don't wanna do it again. They do not have many option and have too strict of rules. My friend and I were trying to get a double tube and the lady handing out tubes said no. Even though in the rules all it says is you have to be less then 400 pounds, and we were less than that. So we decided to ask other lifeguards about that rule, they too didn't clearly understand the rules. Therefore I have give this place a 2/5. read more

We love coming back to Thundering Surf. Prices have gone up but the slides are the best and they even added a new slide. Plus if you hit this place at the right time, the 2 hour price will go a long way. We hit this place on a Saturday at 11:30am which is when renters leave the island and new renters have not arrived yet and the place was empty. We hit the slides and the lazy river dozens of times and it was great. Well worth the $132 for the four of us plus the staff is helpful and the slides and facilities are clean and everything is in great working condition! This place is great for all ages of families since there is a smaller kids area and then a middle kids area and then the slides which accommodate all age groups. read more

This is a review of the ice cream shop as I did not go into the water park part. The ice cream shop was really good they had a lot of flavors of ice cream as well as sizes and different cones. They also offered Italian ice as well as Dippin dots ice cream so if you want something cold and tasty you will find it here. I had the cotton candy ice cream and it is one of the best I have had a lot of flavor and little bits of chocolate chips that give it a different but good flavor. The staff was fast and efficient and the prices were not as jacked up as you would expect from a water park maybe 5 $ for a large ice cream bowl. Not bad at all. read more

Life guards don't enforce rules on the lazy river making it unsafe for smaller kids. Teenagers stop in the middle creating huge pile ups right in front of the lifeguards who look right at it and do nothing. Reporting it to the lifeguards gets a shrug. One of the older kids stopped on the side causing a pile up the flipped my 3 year old son over. Fortunately I was able to get things righted before we got to the dam they had created. In another instance I got hit in the head by a flying tube thrown by a teenager. It's a shame that basic safety isn't a priority because there are lots of great activities for young kids. My son had a great time but it was very stressful for us because be couldn't trust the lifeguards to keep him safe. read more

Well this place has certainly expanded since I used to come here as a kid, when there were just 4 slides! We took our kids (1 and 4) and they had a blast in the splash park area. My one complaint about this area is the huge buckets that occasionally tip. The amount of water is HUGE and really too much for a little kid to deal with - I don't think any of the little kids I saw seemed to enjoy getting randomly dumped on. Obviously it's rather expensive, like everythign on LBI, it is what it is. Two annoying ripoffs though - 1)the lockers are single use, so if you want to have some money out to buy snacks, or want to bring snacks for your kids, you have to carry it with you or just leave a bag out and hope for the best. 2) There is a single slide in the little kid area that kids can go on with an adult, and if you are an adult with a "non-participant" wristband you get yelled at if you go on this. I mean, I'm there with my 4 year old who can't swim, I'm not going on the big slides. Rather than a "non-participant" wristband it should be a "splash area" wristband so you can at least do the single slide in that area with your kid. read more

Took friends down for the weekend to Long Beach Island and decided it would be fun to go to the water park. When going there to have a good and fun couple of hours we were body shamed and quested by age by 3 workers. When walking up to go down slides we were told "you can't go together ur to big for the tube." Then when going down a slide we were asked "how old are you" and we repeated our age and we're asked "why did you have to think about that". as i'm disgusted and disappointed i will not be returning to the Thundering Surf Water park in Long beach Island. read more

This is only for the mini-golf. Excellent! Really fun for kids and adults. The course was long (18 holes--we were kind of done after 12) and some of the holes were hard (we lost a ball for good in one), but the waterfalls were great and going up and down and around was fun. It was PACKED on a Wednesday night, and that made it less fun (people staring us down at every hole to get going), but I'm assuming it's because it's so much fun. My husband took two of our children to this water park on a recent visit and they had a great time. They got the late day special, which is three hours for the price of two and enjoyed every moment of it. The park is not big, but it has enough to keep you busy for a few hours. JUST FOR MINIATURE GOLF COURSE: There were two different 18 hole golf courses that you could select from (you also had an option to play BOTH courses for an extra fee). Always an amazing day! We buy the all day passes that the local elementary school sells as a fundraiser and it is worth every penny and more! My 10 year old loves the 6 water slides, the lazy river and the Flo Rider. My 3 year old goes crazy in the kiddie play area. There is plenty to do. The staff is always friendly and helpful. And then, after water fun we play 36 holes of mini golf followed by ice cream on the way out. If you haven't tried this place yet, pack up the kids and spend a day. Had a great time visiting here this summer with our three boys ages 8,9 and 2 1/2. There was plenty to do for all three ages and we loved how well maintained , clean and well supervised it was. The park was larger enough for lots to do but not overwhelming and too big like some other water parks which was nice so we could split up easily meet and still keep an eye on the boys. While my orders sons loved he big slides as a family we all loved the lazy river and my little guy liked the splash park and smaller slides. They have convienent lockers and changing rooms too. We had a great day and can't wait to go back next summer read more

It's good for young children but it needs to be able to entertain the whole family. Defiantly needs more rides and things for the adults and bigger children to do. I brought my family there and the 7 and two 10 yr olds enjoyed themselves but got bored of the place after like an hour and I paid SO much money to get in. Thundering Surf is a staple on our vacation checklist. Kids love this place one side is two different mini-golf course - the Cave course and the Water course. Lots of fun twists and turns. Never boring! On the water slide side of the park kids love the slides. One thing I hate is that the one slide has a weight limit. This has created awkward moments in our group for teens that exceed the weight limit feeling sad because they can't use the same slide due to exceeding the limit. Also I hate to say it but the women's bathroom is usually really gross. The pool area at the end of the slide is very clean and there are always a number of lifeguards on hand to assist if needed and keep people moving to avoid being hit by the next rider. Check in could be a bit better laid out. Lines are always a mob scene and interfere with the traffic moving thru the lobby. Overall this place is a ton of fun that I would highly recommend! read more
