I was referred to Thrive for post op physical therapy after a Microdiscectomy at L4-L5. I am a 28 y/o female with a long time history of lower back problems. I had tried other physical therapy places before my surgery, but always felt they were a waste of time and not a good fit to my lifestyle. From the moment I walked in, I knew Thrive was going to be different. The atmosphere is bright, cool and inviting. Jasmine works the front desk and always greets me by name with a huge smile and warming personality. The mini refrigerator is always stocked with bottled water, coconut water, and my personal favorite, La Croix! I saw Julie for my first appointment. We talked about what brought me to Thrive and what my goals were. She explained their techniques and did some baseline testing to determine where my back pain originated from. Julie and her staff are all extremely knowledgeable and passionate about what they do. Everyday I felt more and more commitment from each therapist about improving my weaknesses. They track progress with each visit and regularly challenge me with take home exercises and ways to improve my posture in and out of the gym, as well as addressing muscle tightness with Deep Tissue, Sport, Neuromuscular, Myofascial Releases, Reflexology, Vacuum Cupping, and Therapeutic Manual Therapy Techniques. The staff always explained the reason behind the exercise, test, or technique so that I could better understand and work on improving outside of my visits. These are more than physical therapist, they are truly motivated by my progress and commitment, which is refreshing to find. I honestly can not say enough positive things about Thrive. Over the last 25 years I have gone to Physiatrists, Orthopedic doctors, Podiatrists, Physical Therapy, Chiropractors, Hand Therapy, and Massage Therapists. Have had and tried; X-rays, Myelograms, MRI's, CT Scans, Trigger point injections, Neck traction, Cortisone shots, Spinal fusion and Shoe inserts all for pain in various parts of my body. I met Mo and Julie and in passing had a very brief exchange. I then saw a presentation they did and decided what in the world do I have to lose after all of these years, so I scheduled a visit. I went to my first appointment and Julie looked at me and proceeded to tell me exactly where I experience pain, how I felt, the way my body moved all BEFORE I even said anything. The things she said were all of the things I had said over the years to each of the different practices and had even tried to draw pictures for them of how I thought things were moving. To say I was floored would be an understatement. Julie said I was textbook example and she said she hoped I wasn't offended. OFFENDED? I was overjoyed! FINALLY, FINALLY someone you got it or could see what I felt! You are the best person to gauge when you feel something is not right with your body, do not let anyone tell you differently! They look at their patients as entire person. I was referred to Thrive by Dr. Prom, also a fantastic sports medicine DO. Having numerous experience with physical therapists as a patient as well as working relationships, as a licensed massage therapist, over the past 15+ years, I can honestly say the team that is at Thrive is the best that I have ever seen. Their goal is to find the cause of the injury, pain, etc. Not just to relieve what is going on with one specific area but to dissect the problem. Julie, PT, does a great job of explaining this concept by using a rubix cube. I have been a group exercise instructor from the inception of "Billy Blanks TaeBo", spin, yoga instructor, natural bodybuilder, CrossFit coach, and now to triathlons. I have learned more from the team at Thrive about posture (even though Ive always thought my posture was fantastic) and the limitations that I walked through there door with, was the underlying cause of my issue! I've tried numerous types of therapies over the years which were only slightly helpful for short periods of time. I've been in the medical field for 25 years and have never been exposed to therapists who have the amount of knowledge that you see at Thrive. They look at the whole body, not just one part. I've only been to 5 sessions at Thrive and can tell that I'm finally going to get to the root cause of my problems. The staff are all very nice, knowledgeable, and helpful. So happy I found Thrive and Chantal Owen after moving to the Hampton Roads area. My lower back and shoulders have bothered me for years while working long hours at a desk. With the assistance of Thrive, I learned to understand the importance of posture correction to healing. Chantal Owen is simply the best Massage Therapist. She is always caring, professional, and very knowledgeable in reflexology and essential oils. She puts an enormous amount of time to perfect her craft and continuously learn new techniques to help and educate her patients. She always has their wellbeing as a top priority. I'm 6 months pregnant and went to Thrive for a prenatal massage due to having increased pain in my legs, feet, and shoulders. It was amazing, I felt so refreshed, relaxed, and had no pain when I was done. I wish I would have went sooner. These amazing PT specialists are not interested in a quick fix. For the first time in 10 years I am w/o the daily pain from bad hips. I'm more flexible, relaxed and centered.
