I found "Dr. Maggie" online while searching for a functional medicine doctor. On my first office visit, Dr. Maggie spent a great deal of time with me, told me she suspected I was a celiac and gave me a breast thermal imaging scan that cost $245. She then ordered additional lab tests that I had to pay for up front and sold me vitamins. The cost of my first visit was over $1,000. Her office did not send me requisition forms for my lab work for nearly 3 weeks. When I went back for my 2nd visit, she informed me I did have celiac disease, my breast imaging scan was negative and some additional items. She ordered an additional $555 worth of lab work that I paid for up front.
My 2nd visit was nearly $792. While waiting in her office each time, every patient that came out commented on how surprised they were to have Celiac Disease. I thought this unusual, but continued. I submitted a claim form to my insurance company, and when I called to check on its progress, an RN asked to speak to me about items included on my invoice. She told me these items were unusual and that some were not acceptable medical practice; especially the breast thermal imaging scan. I was told this amounted to no more than "holding a light in front of your skin." She told me to go get a real mammogram, not to go back to Dr. Maggie and recommended I go to see a Doctor of Osteopathic medicine who had been screened by the company as reputable. She also checked the State of Florida Department of Health's website for Dr. Maggie's medical license, and low and behold...she does not have one! She is a licensed acupuncturist, and according to her website, she does not even hold a PhD!
I made an appointment with a new Doctor, and had all new tests run...and I DO NOT have Celiac Disease and after having a mammogram, I do indeed have an issue that showed up that I am now dealing with. When I cancelled my appointment and asked for a $555 refund for the blood work I did not have done, I was initially told "no" and that they do not give refunds. I then filed a dispute with my credit card company. When I informed them I would file a dispute with my credit card company, Bill told me they would go against their policy and write me a refund check after I returned a home test kit they had given me. A long text message rant followed telling me how ridiculous it was for me to ask for a copy of Dr. Maggie's medical license, how wonderful she was and how they had never had a complaint from hundreds of patients.
My husband returned the test kit to their Winter Park office. Bill left a voicemail on my home phone asking where to send the refund check, and I texted him it would be easiest to just put through a credit on my credit card account, or to mail the check to my home address; which I verified. I have never heard another word from the office and have not received any type of refund. I have filed a dispute with my credit card company and have made a complaint to the State of Florida. She and her staff portrayed her to be a Medical Doctor, and told me she had gone through all the same training as any other doctor, but had not done a residency with a hospital, as that was not the type of medicine she wanted to practice. I am now dealing with misdiagnoses from Dr. Maggie and spent nearly 3 months trying to learn how to deal with a disease that I do not have.
