I'd had 'something' brewing under a back crown for well over a year, and had not made an…read moreappointment with any of the dentists I 'auditioned,' because I hadn't found someone I felt comfortable with or was willing to trust with sharp utensils in my mouth. Dr. Anders and Dental Assistant Crystal were each attentive to my shifting needs while in the chair and worked very well in tandem to create the most positive and effective visit possible...under some pretty intense circumstances. (I can be a very anxious dental patient.) For me, it all boils down to human touch, attention to detail and sensitivity. It felt more like Dr Anders was painting rather than drilling. I was aware of Crystal's gentle touch...and one or the other gently using his/her/their pinky finger on my jaw to steady a hand and achieve precision. Unbeknownst to me, I have - literally - driven across the country to find the dental team with 'the right touch.' It's expensive, but you get what you pay for...and they accept CareCredit, which removed any anxiety from the 'how am I going to pay for this thing I need??' part of the equation. The front desk staff did everything they could to help me navigate to their office (without gps or cellphone). Thank you Erin, Jody, Colin, Susan. Have I left anyone out?

PHENOMENAL Dental practice!!!…read more But first, a little history...I was recently given a rather dire prognosis during an emergency visit to my former Dentist. I left her office in shock, with little explanation of how the current problem could have occurred, and a paper copy of a referral to an oral surgeon. I was basically left to fend for myself without experience and was completely overwhelmed. This came as a shock, so I began looking for a second opinion. In speaking with the Reception staff and Patient Coordinator at Peak Dental by phone, I was immediately taken by how present they were in listening to my situation and working to find an open slot to fit me in right away. Once there, I was greeted warmly and they spent over TWO HOURS hours with me, talking/listening, examining, photographing, reviewing transferred X-Rays and creating a path forward out of the mess I had found myself in. I can honestly say that Kaitlyn is the best, I repeat - THE BEST, Dental Hygenist that I've ever had the pleasure to be treated by (I'm a huge Chicken...Dental anxiety doesn't begin to describe it!). She was incredibly present (great listening skills), patient and gentle in performing a thorough examination and forming an assessment. We were then joined by Dr. Anders, who reviewed the transferred X-Rays, along with new images they had taken during Kaitlyn's examination. Dr. Anders explained the situation and possible causes in great detail and patiently addressed all of my questions. They formulated a treatment plan that would not only address and resolve the situation that I had found myself in, but one that would all but guarantee that something like this will NOT occur again! Lastly, I worked with their Billing Rep to work out the finer details - she was funny, knowledgeable and super helpful! Needless to say, I have switched dentists and will now be a happy client of Peak Dental Health from this point forward. As a side note...The folks at Peak Dental truly understand the importance of up-to-date technology and have all of the bells and whistles that you would expect to see in a larger, metropolitan dental office. When I first moved back to Maine and discovered that a 'deep cleaning' consisted of a Hygenist trying to slip a metal pick 5mm under the gumline and sadistically scrape away for 45 minutes, I thought I had accidentally taken a wrong turn and ended up back in the Dark Ages...Folks, it's stuff like this that makes Maine look like a cultural backwater. You will NOT encounter the low-tech approach at Peak Dental or their staff - You'll be in great hands!

When I politely asked the hygienist to wear a mask for our visit, she responded "Sure. But it's not mandatory and that's something we embrace here." I stopped short of the entrance of the room's entrance and said that if wearing a mask was an issue I could go to another practice instead. I appreciated that she put one on after that, but the comment was unprofessional. When Dr. Shane Bryant came in, he was wearing his mask only over his chin. When I asked him to put on his mask properly, he told me he was already wearing one. I had to ask him again to put it on properly to which he responded he would put it on once he was facing me. Mind you he was standing right next to me this whole time in an enclosed room. When he left the room at the end of the visit, he saluted me and I noticed his mask still wasn't covering his exposed nose. As I was leaving today I told the admin staff that I wouldn't be returning and explained why. My request for that extra layer of safety was not respected. I didn't want a culture war, I just wanted the medical professionals putting things in my mouth to mask properly. Growing up, my hygienists and dentists typically wore masks and face shields, this was long before COVID. I think it's really shameful that anti-masker types push back so hard against basic human decency. Masking really ought to be mandatory in medical settings still. But at a bare minimum, your medical providers should be happy to wear a mask if you request it. They work for you. As our government and institutions continue to ignore a public health crisis that has taken the lives of millions, the only leverage I have is to take my business elsewhere. Don't let your medical providers disrespect you if you have the option to choose someone else. I usually communicate my preferences ahead of the visit and that usually prevents days like today.
