Circle The Wagons just might be my new favourite festival in Calgary. A healthy, family friendly…read moremusic and food truck festival and it doesn't even have a beer gardens because the whole place is the beer gardens! Hold up you conservative types, this is actually what makes circle the wagons so healthy and family friendly. Instead of binge drinking in a beer gardens cage away from the music, you can buy a drink and casually walk around and enjoy the entire festival. This is the first day long music festival of my life where I didn't see anyone that was out of control. Instead of a beer gardens, there was an off-leash gardens for dogs. It was great. Puppies everywhere, kids every where, and people getting along together and enjoying the sunshine. A giant ring of food trucks, still serving their full size portions makes me feel like a music festival with food, as opposed to a food truck festival with music, where hopefully I'd get the chance to try multiple trucks providing samples, but that's AOK. There was more than enough excellent entertainment around to not have the trucks be the centre of attention. Beach Volleyball (being kid friendly became more of a giant sandbox for the children) and bubble soccer, which unfortunately I didn't play. Stage was great and the sound was awesome. There were plenty of circus and festival performers doing there thing. It's so cool to see the larger Calgary community showing interest in our local burner scene. So great.Not being much of an EDM fan, I would have loved to have seen more live music, but what was there was excellent. Fantastic music selections, folks. The Circle The Wagons concept is groundbreaking for this city and I'm excited to see such a huge step forward Calgary and hopefully more incredible festivals of this likeness to come.

It was so relaxing walking around the different buildings and taking in all the nature. We all enjoyed the train ride and surprisingly, the free amusement rides. We didn't have time for food but it was just so peaceful, we left feeling rejuvenated. Plenty of parking and everyone we crossed paths with was so kind and told us so much about Heritage Park.

And it was fun. We rode the train, rode in the wagon pulled by a tractor, went into houses, learned at the print shop and the oil well, and interacted with the actors. And of course we started at Gasoline Alley. Gasoline Alley has plenty of cars, but I was fascinated by the collection of work trucks and gasoline pumps. And there were plenty of volunteers there to explain the exhibited vehicles and ancillary items. We are an excellent lunch in the cafe.

Each stop was an art installation of various size and purpose all themed around light. The event was completely free too with a couple of the installations located indoors so you could warm up if needed. The fun part of this was that many of the installations were interactive. At Olympic Plaza there were giant shards that you could spin. At The Bow you put your face into a lit up ring and when you smiled a large happy face lit up on the wall. At another location there was a screen inside a door playing a video of a landscape. When you closed the door and opened it again, a different landscape was seen through the door.

This 10 day annual rodeo, exhibition & festival annually in July attracts over 1 million visitors. It features one of the world's largest rodeos, a parade, midway, stage shows, concerts, agricultural competitions, chuckwagon racing, and First Nations exhibitions. It started in 1886 when the Calgary & the District Agricultural Society held its first fair. In 1912, The first rodeo and festival, known as the Stampede began when World War I veterans came home. In 2008, the Calgary Stampede was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame.

I didn't peruse anythign else that this facility has, I only came into the arena area (and I should note there are 2 arenas here, both in the same building). I had to dig my skates out from the basement specifically for this event. I donned my dull as hell skates and hit the freshly zambonied ice. Ahhh, skating. It's been ages since I've skated in an indoor rink but this was ended up being really fun.They play some tunes while you're skating, akin to those I would assume get played at the roller rink, but it's not overly loud and we were still able to hold a conversation. At the rock bottom price of $5.50 for a drop in fee, I can totally see myself coming back here. Yelp Kicks Butt: 1/10

We've been to and love New Orleans and so this festival holds a special place in our heart No issues with parking, even though it was a couple blocks away. Mayor Nenshi was on hand meeting and greeting the line up of people who wanted to see him. A handful of food trucks were on hand including Fiasco Gelato and we were excited to finally visit them. Fun Mardis Gras themed crafts for the kids. Face painting and bouncy houses are always a hit. A fun way to spend a couple of hours, chatting with people, trying new things, learning about the neighbourhood and supporting the Marda Loop Community.
