At one point in my Estherville youth, I think this place was Anthony's. That's when the meat packing plant was open, and there was a little more department store and other business action downtown.
Thrifty's has two floors with 6000 sq. ft. of retail space and is filled with gently used merchandise at deep discounts. More importantly, proceeds support ECHO PLUS services for Emmet and Dickinson Counties' people with disabilities. This store also provides employment opportunities for these folks. Program participants sort and hang clothing, price items and clean. In addition, people from the community volunteer at Thrifty's to help keep things going.
My Son has never met a yard sale that he didn't love. So as we were recently walking around Downtown Estherville, he made a direct path to Thrifty's Door. I looked around a bit, but quickly snuck out and headed for the Library. The Kid hung around a bit longer, made some friends, and later tried to convince me to buy a few things.
