    Jacket

GREED! so much greed! one trip here and you'll see jackets for $70, shirts for $25 and skirts $30. I'm not talking designer, basically just anything that's decent quality gets a price like that.... so if you're charging brand new prices for the decent pieces, does that make everything else that you sell trash? you are not depop, you are not a consignment shop, you are not a curated second hand retail store. You get your inventory for free. ACT LIKE IT. It's honestly shameful. The Genesis thrift shop in Dallas donates to domestically abused women, takes in great quality clothes and STILL charges less than this place. It's sickening at this point. Get a grip. FYI- the jacket in the pic did not even have a brand. God forbid you find something worth wearing here, it'll run you $70.

SOHO skirt $3.99 %50 off yellow tag!

I found a few things but not as much as I expected. Most of my favorite outfits come from thrift stores but lately I've had a more difficult time finding similar quality pieces at the stores I typically shop. Then I learn there are great online clothing thrift stores selling amazing outfits. Thrift Giant is ok. Not my favorite so far though. I'll try it again a different time of year to see if that makes a difference.

The clothes are all in really good condition and well organized by size, but the prices are a little high.

This store is truly a giant thrift store with a massive selection--there's a ton to browse through,…read morefrom clothes to shoes and just about everything in between. It can feel a bit overwhelming because items are everywhere, but if you enjoy digging, this is the place for you. They had some discounts when I went, depending on the colour of the tag, between 25 to 70%. The staff is kind and welcoming, and there's plenty of free parking outside, which makes visiting easy. The main downside: there are no dressing rooms, only bathrooms, and all sales are final--no returns or exchanges. Definitely keep that in mind before purchasing.

I rarely find Long or Extra Long jeans and there was a big selection. Like most thrift stores, they price certain brands higher. The NYandCompany were $12.99. I bought one pair and just could not spring for the other. I found some Torrid XLT. As I prepared to leave Dallas, my only regret was that I only bought one pair of the NYandCompany tall jeans. Saturday was a 50% off sale and just couldn't get them all for full price knowing they would be on sale in a few days. I also needed a coat but the coats at the front door were $69.99. I can get new coats on Amazon for that. Historically, thrifting is something people did because they couldn't pay department store prices. Now the thrust shops are pricing the clothes they got for free with department store prices. That is sad is these difficult times. Other than that, they had a great selection. I came for sweaters and did get some that had the sticker color for the day.

Yesterday, I was blessed with the opportunity to volunteer at The Main Place. Prior to learning…read moreabout their services through my employer, I had never heard about them. Now, I can share their story to my fellow Yelpers! To begin, The Main Place is a non-profit organization that provides clothing to homeless teens in the area. Their unique motto is "A retail store without a cash register." Let's face it, there are many, many people who do not have a home, a place to call their own. Families live in their vehicles, kids "couch-hop" from one friend's home to another. These kids have no options and are stuck to make the best of their situations. Since there are other organizations that provide assistance, this organization opened to help clothe these teens. The Main Place originally started as a means to provide attire for proms for these kids. If you really think about it, it is such a loving idea. Most of these homeless kids who still attend school wear the same clothes daily, so of course, they would not have nice clothes to attend school dances that we all take for granted. Soon, the organization realized daily clothes are needed, as well. As mentioned prior, The Main Place is non-profit and is SOLELY run by 100% volunteers. NO employees. How it works: school counselors refer these kids to TMP, the kids are given vouchers, and it works by appointments only. The store is divided by little "stores"- a boys and girls dress clothes area, a girls prom wear, casual clothes for boys and girls, and items for infants. What I think is a great idea is that they have those areas that provide nice, dressy clothes that these kids can wear for job interviews. They, too, need to dress to impress. The director of TMP is a gal named Jennifer. Wow, I was so impressed with her. Her excitement was infectious! It was obvious just how much she loves this organization and helping those less fortunate. A couple of families arrived while we were there, and the volunteers got busy helping them, like a personal shopper! They put together entire wardrobes, right down to shoes, jewelry, and hats. It was wonderful to witness the joy on the teens' faces! If you have it in your heart (and closet), I ask that you please help this great, little "store." What they need: new and gently used clothes, shoes, and accessories. And, of course, money to pay for utilities. For those who work in the business world, they really need dressy clothes so these teens can look nice for interviews. Also, they really need new undergarments (would you wear used undies?), socks and shoes--especially ladies shoes that are small, like sizes 5-6. I thank any of you who have read this and I apologize for the lengthiness, there is just so much info to share! And remember, pay it forward!

Nearing the end of a brief visit to Dallas recently--from Saturday afternoon to early Sunday…read moreafternoon--I decided to check out Josey Records in Dallas. To me, as someone who fits into the record collector/record dealer/cratedigger and DJ categories, visiting a record store I've never been to before is always an exciting or intriguing adventure. Josey has a reputation for being a good spot to buy records, so I am glad I finally went here to see what's up. Just looking around the store initially, I could see there are several areas in which the store could be improved or made more interesting. My first observation re: genre sections is that the signage for aisles could be more prominent. All of it is placed rather low, but at great record stores, you're never left guessing where everything is. You just find the music you're looking for more easily. With the massive volume of music releases in the store, I would like to see better curation of what's in stock. For example there were lots of Brian Eno releases, but not the ones I'd be interested in. For Parliament Funkadelic, there were just 2 Parliament 45s, but no Funkadelic and no George Clinton 45s. I thought that was weird. I was also looking for a famous jazz guitarist who's listed on the website, but the guy working the counter didn't even know who he was. Overall, I think the selection is decent if you are willing to spend time just looking through various sections, but there's no help on the floor--so you're just basically on your own. It kind of reminded me of shopping for records in a warehouse, but the warehouse I usually go to has much better curation. I should also state I tend to like smaller stores which get the mix of old and new releases more right or perhaps even focus on a certain niche. On a different note, in addition to music, there are lots of other cool things at Josey: a stage for performances, books, posters, tshirts and other ephemera. So, it is easy for music nerds to get lost here. Also, the parking situation is really good here, and I thought the service was good--the guys here are friendly, and one of them did go back into the aisles to look for something. Overall, I would rate this store a 4/5.
