Also, they arrived with my new piano in a van that had a broken ramp. One of the movers was not even old enough to have a drivers license and the move took 4 hours. We hired them to move my childhood piano. During the move the piano was damaged. Accidents happen and we were understanding of that. They got the piano fixed... delivered it without the piano bench. It's been a year. We've been back and forth. I should have looked at reviews and saw that most of them are the same issues we had. On the initial call Bill was quite nice, he quoted us for a baby grand piano. When they arrived they dismantled the piano, and then told us that it was 2 inches bigger than a baby grand, and up the price $75 dollars. I find it odd they couldnt have mentioned that before the piano was dismantled. Sounds like a classic bait and switch. When I approached him on this he was quite rude and told me if I wanted, he would come back and put the piano back together as it was (defeating the whole move). Beware of Thresher. This company completely flaked on me and left me in the lurch big time. I called them almost a month in advance and set a time for them to pick up my piano and then store it for a year. They didn't show up. Then, I'm pretty sure they lied to me about why they didn't show up. I have had no communication from them about their continued absence (despite multiple calls from me about whether they were still coming, or could come the next day), and finally had to find another company completely (and my own self storage unit) as I still haven't heard anything back from them over a day after they were supposed to arrive. This was an incredibly frustrating experience, as I had to be out my apartment the day they were supposed to arrive, and added on to that, I was leaving on a work trip the next day. Thankfully I had family there who were able to stay and take care of the situation. This company is deceitful, irresponsible, and VERY uncommunicative. I would have been more than willing to work with them if they had simply talked with me, or if problems really did come up for them that day and they had clearly communicated with me. Instead I called them five times over the course of the day I was moving, talked with them twice, and finally was left with radio silence at the end of the day. read more

Their mission statement says "Integrity and communication" as hallmarks of their business. My wife discussed the bid with Bill where they discussed stairs, distance of move and possible additional fees should there be tight corners or additional stairs. We had a tight corner ($75 extra), we had an additional stair ($10 extra). Perfectly fine as it was discussed with my wife prior to the move. Grass was crossed at pickup location and 12 boards were used at $10 each. I understand a dolly does not roll on grass with such a heavy item and boards are necessary, but this fee was not mentioned as a possibility during the bidding phase of the transaction. Had it been, perfectly acceptable. When I spoke with Bill Thresher about the surprise fees he stated I should have known this since apparently I am the professional piano mover in this equation. The move ended up costing us over 60% more than the original quote. And to think, we chose this guy because he was $25 cheaper. If you do choose him, just know "integrity" will not be included. read more

I called and talked to Bill. He was very professional and put me on the schedule for the next day for a safe pick up and delivery. Bill quoted me a $200.00 base fee plus $15.00 per stair. 15.00 per stair x 10 stairs= $150.00 + $200.00 = $350.00. The problem was he said there was two tight corners and said it was going to be another $100.00. I told Bill this was NOT what he quoted me. He said that he did not expect the tight corners and the threshold. Every home has a threshold to get in!!. The tight corner was 5' wide x 7' tall so not tight at all. I feel like this was a classic BAIT & SWITCH SCAM. I ended up paying $425.00 against my better judgment. If there are additional charges then they need to be conveyed before the transaction. They did a decent job moving the safe but screwed me in the end. I would not recommend Thresher piano and safe movers. read more

Thresher bumped my move today because they said it wasn't on their schedule. Even though my dad had set it up a week ago directly with the manager. Basically, they lied because we all know they bumped me for a bigger job. The real kicker is my dad has paid this moving company hundreds of dollars to move a piano twice, do junk removal, and more. I spoke with Bill and he gave me a quote to move our piano for $225. He mentioned there might be a few variables (stairs for $5 each and $25 for each tight corners) We agreed and scheduled the move. The guys that were moving the piano called me and said they were running late and asked if we could be flexible to allow them to go move someone else on their way to us. We were flexible and told them that would be fine. Hours later when they showed up to move the piano, they told us that there were difficult corners and it was going to cost roughly $300 to $400 more than they quoted us because of two difficult corners. They said it would be $250 for the corner in the basement and another $125 for the top of the stairs. We were in a bind and we needed the piano moved so we reluctantly agreed. I then called Bill on the phone and told him that I felt misled and he did not accurately explain the price range of his service. He explained that corners can cost up to $700 more depending on the difficulty level. He apologized for the poor communication and said he would call his movers and they would "take care of us". When the job was done and they brought me the invoice, they said they weren't going to charge me for the top of the stairs because it turned out to be easier than they thought it would be...which I was happy about. But then they told me that the bottom of the stairs was much more difficult and so they were charging me $350 for that one (instead of the $250 they told me an hour earlier).... So they did not take care of me and actually charged me just as much as they said they would before they started moving the piano. Interesting experience. Called twice and reached someone, seemed like they were in the middle of a move or driving but scheduled me, didn't take my address but figured maybe just penciling me and following up for that later or something. Turns out I wasn't scheduled- figured, and had to reschedule. Once the movers delivered and set up everything was fine but getting it scheduled didn't give me the warm fuzzies. I feel like this company needs a lesson in customer service. They were very quick to answer the phone and got me scheduled to move my piano the very next day (this is the only reason I gave 2 stars). I couldn't get off work so I made arrangements with my 72 year old mother to be there to let them in. But the morning of, they called and said they were ahead of schedule and would be there in an hour. Since no one was currently at the house, I said I would check and see if I could get someone over there 2 hours earlier than my appointment time. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to and when I called them back to tell them that, they said they would just cancel the appointment because "it wouldn't be profitable to wait around for us". Wow! I understand that a business is there to make money and "be profitable" but everything I learned when completing my MBA degree indicates that good customer service and not making the customer feel like a burden is the best way to go about doing that. read more

I hired this man to do a walk through survey for a client who had just moved. We agreed on a date and time and he no called - no showed. from the beginning he raved about how he has been doing this for 25 years and he was the best guy in town and KNEW for a fact after looking at photos that he would not be able to get the piano where my client wanted it to be placed. I explained that the piano was in the garage and would have to be moved into the house no matter what and still wanted to hire him and he totally blew off my client as well and myself after calling for 3 days he has not answered any of my calls or emails and has not contacted the client that be blew off. Bill will quote you the lowest price around to get your business, and at the end of the move he'll pull out a bunch of hidden fees which almost doubles the price. After receiving a firm quote from Bill for an upright piano move, I asked him point blank multiple times if there would be any other charges. He assured me that there weren't so I booked them. The guys from Thresher's were diligent about trying to be careful in getting my piano off of a moving truck and set up in my home. Unfortunately, one of the hinges on the piano lid broke inside the casing during the transfer process. My Dad and I heard the loud crack of the wood as the guys moved it. Although Bill was sure it had to do with the way the people who loaded it (a different piano mover company) he did assume responsibility and called a local specialist to make sure that it got repaired. read more

I contacted them again but this time they showed up 25 minutes late to the appointment and then refused to move it unless I paid an extra $150. Moving a piano is no easy task. After a terrible experience of moving my piano into my home with 8 guys, scratched floors and a broken toe, I knew we could never do that again. Thankful to a friend who recommended Thresher Piano movers! They make it look so simple! They arrived on time and very friendly. I felt at ease with their confidence that they knew just what they were doing. They transported my piano in an enclosed trailer and used tie downs and blankets to protect and secure it. I was so impressed that they took extra care to use blankets as I have seen other movers not do. I now have used Thresher Piano movers a total of 3 times and I have been very pleased each time. First off let me say owner Bill is a very nice guy but I am disappointed in a couple of things: 1. I scheduled the move for a Friday that they forgot about and they had to reschedule me for Monday. Which meant i had to totally adjust 2 days of scheduling 2. When they arrived at my house to deliver the piano they didn't bring the right equipment to go up my stairs or enough crew and they were going to reschedule me for another day. So...they decided to try another path and take the long way around which is fine but ended up costing me $200 more than quoted since they put down plywood boards. 3. When i asked him about the discount (which he offered on the Friday when they messed up) for forgetting to schedule me and rearranging 2 days of my life he took $20 off the bill! $20 for rearranging his mistake. I hardly think that is fair or quality customer service and i was the one who had to bring it up. He totally forgot about the mishap. I really hate writing reviews and i rarely do but i think it should be said so that people know what they are getting in to. I came across Thresher Movers by accident and decided to give it a try. My piano was moved recently and I must admit to be dumbfounded and alarmed. Not only the delivery time was completely ignored, but the handling of the instrument was absolutely abysmal. The instrument was pushed and shoved as if it were a piece of wood. I have never seen anybody move furniture or appliances in that way. Certainly, I have never seen a piano moved in such hurried way. Pianos are valuable, pricey belongings and they must be handled by individuals and companies that fully accept the responsibility to move them adequately. I would give this company another chance, but I would certainly make sure that the company understands the minimum standards for moving a musical instrument. read more

First of all, they were 45 minutes late without calling and informing me. So with hungry children waiting on a hot day, we waited around for bill and his crew to finally show up. Second, don't trust any price that Bill quotes over the phone. It won't be correct. He was very condescending because of his "expertise of 20 years of piano moving". He insisted that he charge an extra $100 to put the piano up on its side to make a turn when there was no need to do such things. The piano easily made the turn when moving it previously because I was part of that move. He said it was for "safety reasons" which is just ludicrous. He knew that he had me in a bind because I had to have the piano moved that day to fulfill my business needs. He knew it and did everything he could to nickle and dime me. A phone quote of $190 to move a simple little upright turned into a $360 behemoth. I scheduled thresher piano movers weeks in advance, but had cancelled Rocky Mountain movers because Bill quoted me a lower price. I have used Rocky Mountain Movers multiple times, but this was my first experience with Thresher. I will never use them again. They were condescending, rude and dishonest. Stay away from this company is my recommendation. Update: My wife took care of this transaction because I was working. I talked with bill on the phone and was not there to see the finished move. I arrived at my studio this morning where the piano was delivered two days ago. I found that the whole top of my upright piano had been ripped away from the rest of the piano. No mention of this by thresher piano. They tried to hide it by simply placing the top piece back on top without being sanded or glued back on. They broke it while placing it on its side which was not even necessary in the first place. Again, my recommendation is to never use this company. My brief experience with Thresher Piano Movers was possibly the worst "service" experience I have had, and will most certainly be my last experience with Thresher. If you want a reliable, punctual mover that respects you, your time and the commitments they make, based on my experience, I strongly recommend you find another mover. While I cannot speak for their actual piano moving, if it is anything like their respect to customers and professionalism, I thank God they flaked on me and did not move my piano. Last Friday I called a few piano services and eventually ended up with Thresher Piano Movers. The men I spoke with on the phone sounded very nice and I got the impression that I could trust Thresher Piano Movers to move my antique upright out of my home for my renter, whom had just moved in. It was a very simple job moving my piano from one garage to another, no more than a mile away, with zero stairs. I made it clear that I was not in the state of Utah and would have to arrange to have someone meet them at the house. The earliest they could do the job was Monday at 4pm. On Monday morning I called Thresher to arrange payment and spoke to a man, who I believe was named Bill. He was again very nice and informed me that he would call me after the move was complete around 4pm my time to take my credit card information. I told him the name of my family member that would be meeting him over there, and he informed me that they were ahead of schedule and should actually be to my place early. My sister-in-law packed her kids in the car and headed over to my house early, because of what he told me on the phone. At 4pm MST (the actual time of our appointment), I received a phone call from Thresher telling me that they were way behind schedule and wouldn't be there for another two hours, and that he would give me a call when they were on their way. Compounding matters, my sister-in-law's phone was broken, so she ended up having to wait with her kids until she realized they had blown me off. Although I was disappointed and bugged that they were going to be two hours late after I had to arrange to have someone meet them there, that stuff happens. I understand. Could they have called me sooner than the exact time they were supposed to arrive though? Absolutely. Strike one. They knew I had to ask my sister-in-law to meet them there, and they could have easily saved her the trip of leaving her house, by performing the simple courtesy of not waiting till the minute they were supposed to arrive to call me. Two hours later and I still had not received a call from Thresher. I called them --- no answer. I left a message asking where they were and waited. After a grand total of three hours late and no word, I called every number of theirs I could find multiple times and they never called. I could have understood if they got so backed up that they had to bump me. Would I have been happy? No, but calling and telling me would have been the right, professional, respectful thing to do. I still would have had time to call a different company and at least get an appointment on the books before the end of the business day. My sister-in-law wouldn't have waited around her house for the rest of the evening, waiting for me to call and tell her that they were finally going to be coming. My renter, who was planning some of her move-in based on having the piano out of there, could have had notice. Bottom line, after my experience with Thresher, I associate the following words with them: disrespectful, inconsiderate, unprofessional, unapologetic, and most importantly unreliable. I feel an odd sense of relief that they did not show up, because if this is how they conduct their business matters, how would they have treated my piano? read more

If you can give him a detailed idea of where you want your piano moved and what he'll have to do to get there, then he'll be able to give you a very accurate bid. Great service. SOOOO DISAPPOINTED! After setting up an appointment for 3:30, told it was $200 base fee and $20 per step...I was called a 3:28 and told it would be an hour before the movers would arrive because another customer's job had gone long. In an empty home I sat, waiting. After an hour and a half I CALLED THEM. They claimed to be only a half an hour away and Bill apologized over and over but offered nothing in the way of compensation. When I asked for a discount, he offered a measly 15% discount for my 2 hour delay. Still I sat with no call. After 2 hours, I called around and found another moving company who charged less and had better Yelp reviews. Texted my cancellation and was told they were only 15 minutes away, but when they told me where they were (Redwood and I215 - they were minimum 30 minutes away in good traffic - and they had pushed into rush hour. I texted my disappointment and we left. In a day of Yelp and Google Reviews, where customer service businesses live or die on good/bad reviews, I was extremely disappointed by the lack of communication, the dishonesty (1 hour away - it would have been 2-1/2 if I had not left) and a lot of apologies but nothing really in the way of making up for my lost time and having to reschedule. If you end up booking through this company insist on someone other than Hap to do your service. The thing is, if they would have been honest with how far away they were in the first place, I could have run errands for 2-1/2 hours and they would have kept my business. read more
