This review should be so much better. Initially I was thinking I'd give it a big 5 star ***** write-up, but then things kind of deteriorated...
The decor is great and the place looks fantastic. The staff are really friendly and the prices are good too, as is the choice of beer. It really is a good place to go if they get it right. Sadly this was our first experience and it didn't go well. We attended a live show in the tiny room downstairs and instead of eating before we left - as per normal - we decided this place sounded nice and we'd eat here as well as attending the gig. There was a special deal on - 2 curries for £5.95 - so we ordered almost as soon as we arrived.
Time went by and lots of other diners were served delicious looking food and we watched enviously as people tucked in. Time kept moving and still no food. I went up to the bar after half an hour and asked the chap where our food was as the band were due on in under half an hour and we'd driven quite a long way. He said 'we're very busy I'm afraid' so I went back and sat down. No food was being brought out and I became concerned after another 10 minutes. The same guy went to find out what had happened and when he returned he said - to my amazement - 'sorry but someone else has claimed your food'. I have never encountered something like that - they gave our food to someone else without checking orders, table numbers etc.?! Incredible. My other half said to me 'so we just watched someone else eat our supper...!' I was very unhappy and told the guy so - he was very apologetic and said he'd get our food which would be 'on the house'. A decent gesture but at £5.95 hardly compensation for the frustrating wait we'd had. It still took almost 15 minutes to arrive so it was close to a full hour by the time we ate. Plus we had to stuff it down double fast in order not to miss the band we'd made a special effort to see. It was delicious I have to say but the whole evening was spoiled by the inept manner in which our food was give to another table. There is no excuse for that.
I'd give the another chance as the potential is there, but that was a very poor experience! read more
