I didn't know what a physiatrist was a month ago, but after "failing" PT and having two PCPs and a neurologist throw up their hands, I am SO grateful to have found Dr. Walby. Finally, after over three years of complaining to my doctors about my increasing pain, I found someone to LISTEN to me. What I was calling back and leg pain, she told me was hip pain (oh, really? I thought my hips were up here...) and a perusal of my x-rays led her to tell me I am a candidate for hip replacement. I had no idea! Obviously, the news was bad, but it was a relief to finally know what the problem was and to just get someone to listen. I cannot stress how important the listening is. I haven't had a doctor listen to me in 30 years. They ask staccato questions, which I struggle to answer correctly and quickly, while they peer at their computers, never looking at me. Talking to Dr. Walby was as comfortable as having coffee with a friend. She wrote notes occasionally, made insightful comments and let me ramble as much as I needed to feel that I fully explained my pain and frustrations. She was upbeat, a great sense of humor, as well as quite knowledgeable. It was actually an enjoyable doctor visit. If a physiatrist is what you need, I strongly recommend Dr. Walby at Three Rivers. read more
