I am so excited to finally be able to sit down and write this review! We ended up staying here from 10/27 to 12/1. We arrived here late on the 27th and our RV broke down at the gate. It was a Sunday night and we had no clue why it just shut off and we couldn't get ahold of any repairman due to the day and time of night. Lorena, receptionist at the campground, and her Kelly came up and tried to help us get the RV running that night as well. The campground gave us the name and number of a highly recommended repairman who we called in the morning. RJ and Mike, the maintenance men of the campground, came up to the gate and kept the exit gate open for people to come and go while we tried to figure out what was going on. The repair man came and said he couldn't fix it today and gave us an idea of what might be going on. From there, RJ got the tractor and towed our RV down to our lot. The staff here is absolutely amazing and during our stay we became friends with most of them. Janice, another receptionist at the campground, extended our stay when the part to fix our RV still hadn't come in and then she helped us extend our stay again - which we had to pay for but that was okay! Everyone here goes above and beyond what they need to. They're all friendly and a blast to talk to! There is are 2 playgrounds for kids, mini golf, shuffleboard, and basketball as well. It's all very well maintenanced and a lot of fun! The bad is that one of the heaters went out at the indoor pool and spa. So the spa/hot tub was shut down 3 days before the park closed for the winter. Stuff happens though and this wasn't on them or due to lack of maintenance. We were informed that a new heater was ordered so they'll be reopening the spa soon! There was also talk about repainting the indoor pool and hot tub as well as switching them over to saltwater. So that's something else to look forward to! As for the lots, some of them can be a bit small. We were on D5 and it was huge! We loved it! But not all of the lots are big. Some can be tight. Many of them are not level either and the roads are very tight. So be careful and take your time moving your rigs around here. I have to say that there is a steep hill getting in and out of the park. It is absolute hell to get up and down! So just a heads up about that. Over all, we absolutely loved this park and highly enjoyed our stay! We loved staying here and would consider buying a cabin here. We fully intend to come back again! This was an excellent park. If you're in the area, this is the place to go!

Camp ground and staff was great! This place is big and has lots to do in the area.

We came for a weekend get-away being that we live very close. First impressions are everything. The resort was gated and that was good. The roads were a bit tight, if you have a big fifth wheel, be prepared to do your homework of the sites before driving in. The front desk was nice and while the clubhouse was very outdated, it was still comfortable. The general store provided the essentials and they provided a game room. We enjoyed the complimentary mini golf and the indoor pool. It is definitely a place we will come back to, but not the best we have ever stayed at.

People were very nice. Park was well kept. Sites are really small. Very hilly. Turns are VERY sharp. Really hard to maneuver a large rig.

We enjoyed a full hookup site. This campground is in perfect proximity to all three historic spots as well to Busch Gardens which we went to with the two day pass to break up the large amount of history. This all worked out very well. The campground is very nice, and well taken care of. George is the head of maintenance and grounds, and he makes sure that things get done. The grass is cut, the staff will pickup your bagged trash if you set it out on your site by 9am, picnic tables with umbrellas was a nice addition and the gas grill at each campsite makes cooking easier for the campers. Staff will deliver ice and firewood to your campsite. The swimming pool with splash pad was a big hit with the grandchildren and made the choice of staying at this campground easy. They also have an activity building that features things to do like a basketball shooting game, tabletop shuffleboard, a pool table, giant checkers, various board games, and more. There is a laundry room adjacent. There is a kid jumping pillow, playground, hiking trails, disc golf, and lots more. WiFi was good and the grounds are secure. We enjoyed our stay here. The cost per night of our stay seemed a bit high at first sight but with the many amenities the cost smoothed out once on site. A couple negatives I have is that a $10.00 price tag for a small bag of firewood was very disappointing and over the top. Also, we made our reservations early to ensure locking in on the available site of our choice but then were forced to pay an additional $10 fee to guarantee that they didn't move us into a site that would not be our preferences. Even so, we would stay here again if we wanted to spend more time in this area.

Those premium spots are just clutch. The morning of call is great. They keep you informed of any changes, say to get setup, and make it super casual. When we arrived, we knew where to setup, knew that checking in wasn't the omg gotta do this moment, and then just had the no-pressure rush. Why I like this campground - it's all about the customer service. We visit the store - smiling, helpful face that loves the dog (always helps) and always attentive to any questions we may have. When folks were having issues I saw folks running to help, fixing issues, and saying hello to customers pulling in.... all at the same instance (looked exhausting - but it's also what sets this place apart). For those that have an issue with the train, I get it... however, at a certain point it becomes white noise and it even entertained our daughter as she watched the coal or passenger trains roll on through. Imo - not a big deal as it just adds to the character of the place... but I guess everyone is different. Keep it up Anvil.. see ya soon! We enjoy camping in our RV and discovered this park had camping sites. So normally if possible we will check out a park before we drag our big beast RV to a location. I found the camping sites real nice and fairly large. None of the site look difficult to back into. However, they do have several pull through sites. None of the sites seem to have any cover - so you will need to deal with the sun and maybe summertime heat. Just know that. Some sites do have E/W. The dump station appears clean and easy in & out. The bath house was very clean As for the rest of the park. Just wonderful biking/walking path. Not sure but there are a few miles of them and all look flat. As for the trails to the water, they are rocked and again I'm sure a mountain biker can easily handle them. Not 100% sure though if bikes are allowed on them - so check before you do. I even seen an older lady driving her motorized wheelchair on these paths and she didn't seem to have any difficulty. The restroom area and picnic pavilions looked great and were very clean. Of course this facility is newer, so I hope they stay looking as great as they do today. I expect we will be back here with the RV in the Fall or Spring. I say this again due to no real shade in the campground area and no swimming avail.

Now my husband and I return to use the hiking/walking trails. The trails give you a little bit of everything. You can be in the shade, the blazing sun, on the beach walking in the sand, beside a field of cows or soybeans, or meandering down a rural road. We recently did a 4 mile hike and packed a lunch to enjoy on the beach. My only issue is that some people who come with their dogs have them off leash. We bring our leashed dog and I don't care for other large dogs running up to us with their owners not having control. I highly recommend going and enjoying Chippokes!

I guess everyone has the right to give whatever rating they want, but sometimes I feel this is unfair for the business. We stayed a week there in July and had a great time. Due to the unusual hot weather we spent a lot of time at the pool. The pool seemed very clean and we didn't encounter anyone drinking alcohol. Even if someone did have a drink I wouldn't blame the RV park for their actions. We used our StarLink internet so I can't comment on the quality of the RV Park internet. I found out over the years that most KOA's and Good Sam parks do have connection problems when they are 100% occupied. The Staff was very friendly and helpful. Someone mentioned in another review that there was no garbage service. To me that is not big deal I just put my trash in the dumpster, just as I would do at a National or State Park. We used the RV Park's showers on the final day and they were very clean. Finally, we did see big beautiful Pine Cones on the ground and we didn't hear any report of injuries from getting struck in the head by a falling Pine Cones, as one reviewer worried about in their review. Overall if we ever return to Williamsburg we would definitely return to American Heritage RV Park.
