For kindergarten and…read morepart of 1st, while in a public school, my daughter was labeled as a problematic child who was not capable of learning anything because she was so bad, according to various teachers. After trying everything and any way of communication with teachers I decided the public school was the problem and not my child as they were not funded adequately to help someone like my daughter. I looked into various schools and KIPP was the best option and selection for me. Within 6 months of attending KIPP Esperanza, I saw a huge leap in her learning skills and her behavior totally changed. It took comprehensive and patient staff at KIPP less than a month to know the type of help my kid needed to formulate an education plan for her. My oldest is now going to 5th and her middle sister is now attending kinder with her. KIPP will remain our selection until all three of my girls graduate. Especially with a 100% college acceptance rate.

I am surprise nobody from Comal ISD had reach out to me and ask me how is me and my son doing after i decided to withdraw him from this specific school with this specific teacher due to discrimination. My son is half filipino and half black American and as a mother i already knew something is up with his kindergarten teacher here at Morningside Elementary School. Not only she told me my son has to go to a behavioral class and he's so behind from his classmates etc etc he fights other kids he hits them etc etc. So after three weeks of putting up with Mrs Johnson negative notes in my sons notebook everyday for 3-4weeks i decided to withdraw him. 5 months later my 5 year old son is now at a Charter School, Have received the most number of awards such as perfect attendance, demonstrate respectfulness, star reader and a problem solver. And his new teacher always have positive things to say and would work with me and all parents to make sure our kids at my son's new charter school have the best experience in class. So i have always wonder with all the schools my son went to this is the only school that i certainly will say have Demonstrated, Illustrated and Definitely Showed me and my family "how to be discriminated in a public school as a young black and filipino kid". As a prior military who have served the United States Navy for 10 plus years, I do not condone or appreciate this type of institution specially not only i wouldn't get address correctly, it only shows that they do not care about this type of situation. They did try to have me setup a schedule and speak to their school principal once and mind you instead of her showing up to our meeting she send their school counselor because she's too busy doing other things. Which that meeting didn't go end well anyways. As they mentioned over and over is how my son is a bad kid and they don't know what to do with him except send him to a behavioral class. He hits other kids, he doesn't listen, etc etc. he's the only one who does this in my class. Wow this is the only school i must say bring back that PTSD i felt when i was on deployment. You know that feeling they're out to get you, yeah i felt that here. I felt like they were out to get my biracial kid for whatever reason they may have. Lisa has since retired, but still pops in and remembers our son fondly! Mr. Pinkston, the teachers and support staff are amazing!! We have never seen such kind, caring and knowledgeable professionals! Their attentive approach to students and passion for education has made such an impact! Fast forward 5 years, he continues to thrive in 8th grade with excellent grades and a great group of friends! When we were looking at schools, CHS offered SOARS support which really stood out to us and has been such an amazing tool for our son. I highly recommend an education with CHS, schedule a tour and shadow day, you will be thoroughly impressed

The staff is patient, loving and dedicated to their kiddos and classroom ! I love that the school is small with small ratios giving it a ( at home vibe) will keep my two year old son here until he outgrows it! He has attended since the school opened and this mommy loves it and as a pre-school teacher I respect and cherish the curriculum I always get lots of art, daily sheets and one on one daily feed back! Bring your little ones here you won't regret it! The best gift a working parent can receive is the warm, calm and reassuring feeling when dropping of your child to their daycare! As an early childhood educator with over 20 years of professional experience, this practice has never been allowed and raises serious health, safety, and licensing concerns. Programs should strive to exceed minimum standards--not settle for what is considered "acceptable" in Texas. This mindset is part of why Texas ranks so low nationally in education. Parents need to pay close attention to these details. Additionally, communication with assistant teachers needs significant improvement. The level of care and oversight from the lead teacher to assistants in the afternoon is lacking and needs immediate attention. After school care providers never seem to know what going on. Get to know your kids, on an individual level, know their needs and pay attention. Toddlers/preschoolers should not be without water especially during snack or meal times.

Communication was constantly a struggle -- I was often called at work about missing items even though I always asked ahead of time if anything was needed. When I did get updates, it was usually last-minute, leaving me scrambling within an hour to fix things. What hurt the most was when my child was hit in the face by another student, and I wasn't told until more than three hours later. No parent should have to find out something like that long after it happens. As a foster parent, I work hard to give my children stability and comfort, but this school made that transition so much harder than it needed to be. I truly hope no other parent has to go through what we did. Please look for a different preschool where your child will be cared for, and where you'll be treated like a valued parent -- not an afterthought.

My daughter loved her old school and was quite disappointed when we told her that she was going to a new school. However, after 4 months, she has acclimated well and have nothing but good things to say about her teachers and classmates. She finds the work challenging and exciting. The school has taught her and our family a new way to approach reading. They teach Latin and have poetry wars. They also have an after school program that is an extension to their education and not just babysitting. The after school teachers help with homework and pick up is until 6 pm. They also have after school clubs with nominal charge. What is most important to my family was the school's faculty and their program for kids with special needs. My son was diagnosed with a rare disorder in October, that affected him neurologically. Some of the staff from school and after school program visited him, including Mr. Brogran (assistant headmaster). We love his teacher Mrs. Laird. She is a smart, kind, and loving teacher. She visited him in the hospital twice. My son had missed 2 1/2 months of school from being sick. Ms. Ernest (teacher), has been so patient in teaching him at home. She has been an important part of his education. We drive to school at least an hour twice a day, sometimes longer. We decided to move closer to the school since our kids loved being there.

Some of the "facilitator" staff would yell and berate us verbally picking on personal attributes and private performance information with everybody listening out in open spaces. i can recall a moment when i was on my laptop and i was just playing a game on my free time and i laughed at a joke a teacher made not even provoking him. he then proceeded to announce and i quote "yeah and i laugh the same way when i look at your grades!". situations like that and the degrading treatments i endured linger on me still to this day and it feeds into my paranoia and depression. im genuinely afraid to talk to my professors at the college i attend now because i just have this subconcious fear that im taking up their time and that if they know that i dont understand everything that theyll think less of me and that ill be nothing more then a verbal punching bag in their eyes despite repeated reassurances by the college staff that that isnt how they think but regardless no matter how much they show that theyre happy and willing to help i just cant bring myself to ask them because i think about what would happen if i tried to seek help at afia and choose id rather not bother anybody. any time i see grades and any note left by professors even if positive i cant help but click out before i can read too much; my eyes water regardless of the message. this "school" is a cesspool of unprofessional behaviour and psychological torment and rather contrary to their motto i failed to "belong", i failed to "find joy" even going to the mental hospital to be diagnosed with depression mid school year, and i most certainly did not learn how to "be great" as im left a few months after graduation feeling anything but great and more something around the likes of defeated, irrationally afraid and depressed. on the psychological care side of things there is virtually nothing done to try to help those that are in a poor mental state theres no consideration for the depressed, theres no actions taken to help those overstimulated by struggles in life even if it had the potential to be a danger to oneselves. a unfortunate occurance regarding lack of mental health care and intervention i recall was one time after i came back from the mental hospital scared and barely holding myself together with the persistant and frightening subconcious thoughts, despite establishing the trust issues i had with them historically at the time, i went to the office of one of the administrative staff to maybe seek help and ask what to do as i was afraid to really talk to anyone about it and i was desperate for any lifeline that wouldnt immediately upset and cause turmoil amongst my family and close friends so i sat down in the office with tears falling from my eyes and asked what i should do in case i were to "dissappear", referring to the mental hospital, mentioning explicitly how i didnt feel good in my mind and that i was frightened of what may happen to me. and do you know what the response was? she handed me an agenda and basically told me that i should use it to organize my schedule and in direct response to my comment about myself disappearing said "okay lets not do that". and thats all she said before ushering me out. i conclude my review saying if i could i would leave a lower rating and the fact that they turned off and deleted google reviews is VERY telling. i would never wish to ever experience something like this again and seriously, if braination cares about what little positive reputation this school has left then they must take action now and intensively review the performance of administrative staff of afia. I believe the idea and intention is absolutely wonderful but it just doesnt live up to the promises and so im left traumatized into the start of the real world.
