The friendly staff are at hand to tell you everything you want about these sweet treats, and will lure you into buying more than you wanted with free samples of the wickedly tempting stuff. Phew! And to a bigger and better shop. This always used to be my 'secret chocolate factory' - right in the heart of Bristol, tucked away down a lane, where they hand-make absolutely wonderful chocolates for high-end retailers. Yet you could walk right in to their premises and buy mis-shapes right there, in a paper bag. Goodness, I brought so many people here to show off my knowledge of this hidden gem. You'd walk in, and the cocoa smell was so wonderfully overpowering... Someone would hear the bell and come and serve you, still with their hat and gloves from working on the confectioner's table. Aside from the delicious smell and delicious chocolates (my favourite was always the Lilac Crème), it was a privilege to see a niche industry in action. Now Guilbert is in a 'proper' shop. Go up Corn St, follow the road around to the left and there it is. A traditional chocolate shop! They deserve their success, the chocolates are utterly delicious and always beautifully presented. DO NOT USE IF OUT OF COUNTRY…read more We ordered chocolate frogs for our Harry Potter themed wedding, spent $30 to ship them to Las Vegas, NV, USA and they arrived completely melted. They were left on our porch for a total of 30 seconds and they were liquid inside. completely ruined. No effort was made to have them survive the trip despite knowing where it was being sent to (a desert in the summer). It was shipped in a plain brown cardboard box and packed with standard air bags. No Styrofoam, no dry ice, nothing to prevent it from bring completely destroyed most likely way before it got to our house. If you're going to allow international shipping like you do I feel like greater care should be taken to ensure that the product will survive the trip! And we know your policy states that you aren't liable for damage due to climate but it's ridiculous to expect your customers to assume a candy shop doesn't take precautions to ensure that the chocolate won't melt in the summer! Also, we would have directly messaged this on your website but your contact page requires a UK telephone number so we have no other way of reaching you with this message. I am sorry, I'm not the type to complain here but I just had to make an account to warn others to steer clear to avoid having the same trouble we had.

I've seen grown business men turned into school children while ordering bags of bonbons or boiled sweets. And who can blame them? With shelves full of flying saucers, pink shrimps and sherbet to choose from you'll be hard pushed not to go into frenzy yourself. Whittard is a good place to buy Christmas gifts or just to look around every now and then. I particularly like Whittard's hot chocolates which come in a variety of flavours including Devon Fudge, chocolate mint and caramel. The prices can be a little high but there are often sales on at Whittard. I think I heard on the news that its one of the company's that has recently gone into administration it would be a real shame if Whittard closed down.

The service is really friendly and careful. My coffee took a little longer to materialise than it would in other cafes, but it was eventually brought with such care, and was so creamy and well made, that I instantly forgave them for making me wait for it. They also have lovely toilets. This is something I always look out for because, however nice a cafe, a visit to a dodgy ladies' room can seriously colour your evaluation of the place. But the Rubicon loos are lovely, with gorgeous Sanctuary handwash and hand lotion.

Its small, well ordered premises were brimming with chocolate based goodies. Best of all much of it was made on the premises, using Belgian Callebaut couverture chocolate as the base. Under their own brand Mon Cacao range, more than 46 varieties are available, with a variety of dark, milk and white chocolate on offer. They also sold milkshakes, ice creams etc. Well worth a visit.
