Thon hotel has very much the Hospice, mental institution vibe and I am not convinced that it wasn't the latter of the two at one time.
Upon arrival the walk from the parking lot to reception was about a tenth of a mile, not bad. You can drive up and drop off bags but obviously you must park in the parking lot. There is no valet, although there isn't valet in most of Norway so don't expect it.
We were checked in promptly although the concierge wasn't all that friendly. We inquired about places to eat and the response was "I don't know, I'm not from around here". We settled for Foodora which is Norways Version of Door Dash, that review is on yelp.
There were three people in our party and as soon as we got to our room we were less than impressed. A small mini fridge which we never opened. Two twin beds stuffed into a queen frame with two twin comforters. A single roll away bed so low to the ground you almost could not get up, parked right next to the ONLY heating source in the room. This led to it being quite cold as it was 40 degrees this evening and one wall was all windows. The bathroom was very hospital style, a wheel chair ramp to get in, fold down assist bars next to the toilet. There were no complimentary shampoos, conditioner or body wash. The only soap at both the sink and shower were wall mounted hand soap dispensers. A chair at a desk, that was worn and should have been thrown out. The rugs, not carpet were rolled at the edges creating a tripping hazard.
All three of us complained of feeling very out of it mentally, like as soon as we walked in something or someone drained us. A poor nights sleep due to temperature and uneasiness led us to cut our stay from two nights to one night. We left the next day to go back to Sweden as we didn't not find the country of Norway to be welcoming or friendly. We definitely did not feel welcomed. read more
