On your way to or from Oslo? Then The Thon Hotel is a great place to chill out for the night and relax before your next flight. It's very close to the Oslo airport and a quick bus ride gets you there and back easily.
Let's start at the beginning. The Lobby.
It's nice and clean but small for a hotel with a lot of traffic. There's a waiting/dining area which is handy and the restaurant is right across from the registration desk.
The Dining Room & Food.
The dining room is a good sized room and if you are meeting your group there, seating is easy. Dinner, on the other hand, was a disappointment to me. There's one entre' per night. The first night I was there, dinner consisted of hamburgers. I am ok with that, but there was no other choice. There was a basic salad bar with a few entries, but nothing special. Everything is self-serve which is convenient if you are in a hurry.
Breakfast was the better of the two meals. Breakfast served 3 different types of eggs (yes, I love eggs) and they were all cooked properly but the scrambled eggs were a bit dry for my taste. There was some breakfast meat as well, sausages and greasy bacon. Yogurt and fruit were also available with unlimited coffee on tap.
The best part? The meals are free, included with your room, so there's nothing to complain about. And, there's nothing else nearby to visit for a dining experience unless you want to back to the airport.
The room itself was small but clean and comfortable. The beds are good, the puffy comforters are a bit too warm for me, but there was no alternative (cotton blanket option) so the only choice was to open a window. In the middle of Feb, that option was not one you can stick with for long. I was either too hot or too cold.
The bathroom was clean and stocked with towels but not much else. There's a soap dispenser in the shower instead of lots of little soap bars, which I like much better.
My biggest complaint is that there are stairs at the entrance with no ramp. I had heavy bags with me and I would have preferred to have a ramp to get my bags into the lobby, particularly when there is ice and snow on the steps.
Staff was overall friendly and accommodating, it was a pleasant stay overall. For the one night I was there, it was perfectly adequate and served my needs as an airport stop over.
It's far less expensive than the Raddison which is on the airport property and if you don't mind the bus ride, it's a great alternative to an expensive one night stay. read more
