I was referred to a private OBGYN by my PCP as I have been on oral birth control for 10+ years and wanted to discuss the option of the non-hormonal copper IUD. The provider did not even have a discussion and simply asked what I wanted. So we schedule to have the IUD placed when my period starts. I call when it starts and she only works two days a week so my period would be over by the time she is in. So wait another month, well now she is on vacation during my period. I become frustrated and look for another OBGYN to place the IUD. Everyone wants two visits: one initial and one to place. I work full-time and to take that much time off work doesn't fit every patient. As a supporter of Planned Parenthood, I thought hm why don't I call them. The woman on the phone was very kind and informative. She informed me I could have the IUD same day. Also you can book appointments online. I went in that afternoon and saw Melissa Wilson who was super informative. Talked about various IUDs. I like how she asked about abuse as this was never been asked at any OBGYN appointment I have attended. So I had it placed that day. It was painful. Very. Melissa was so encouraging and took her time to coach me through the placement. The whole staff were really incredibly kind. I will support Planned Parenthood every chance I get. Thank you!
