I have migraines, I have had them for years, I have been diagnosed by the best mds around; including neurologist, neurosurgeons, I have had all the mris, ct scans etc; I have been given all the appropriate treatments and medications. I decided to try out a chiropractor; keep in mind I've never been to one, and honestly didn't know what to expect. I twisted my neck at work, and thought what better to try one out than when you're in pain. I called the office, and they told me they could fit me in at 11:30. The building is in the far back building on Peachland St. in Newhall around where the Post Office is. It's a lower level room in a larger building with several other assorted small businesses. The main room was comfortable, with a couple receptionists who greeted me as I entered the room. I only waited about five minutes or so before the chiropractor welcomed me into his room. A conversation ensued that felt like a hybrid between a job interview and speaking to a car salesman. The breakdown of the conversation was his attempt to set expectations toward what I wanted to get out of this appointment. I told him quite clearly that I saw a check-in offer on yelp, he had good reviews, and I'd give the place a shot; oh yeah, and can you please relieve the pain in my back (or my reason for setting up the appointment). We came to an agreement after sometime, that he could help with the pain. He told me that because I mentioned yelp (and I would gather he's had some run-ins with patrons from yelp before) he would give me the yelp price. I was taken to a room where they did tests; what I gathered were to see exactly how much pain I was in and how moveable I was at that time. After the check-up he gave me another spiel on how much x-rays cost and why It's important to see it so they can further diagnose why I've twisted my neck. Again, I was getting the yelp deal for something that regularly costs $150, he was going to give me for $50. I waited for them to be finished. He called me into the other room where he spoke to me about what my neck should look like, and what it does look like, and how it could be the cause for my problem. At this point he asked me if I was interested in doing a session now, and it would be $75- oh wait no, $50 because I mentioned the yelp ad. I explained that I was under the impression that the check in covered the initial exam, and the $50 covered the x-ray and first session. He then seemed very perturbed; almost jarred that at that time I wanted actual treatment for my money. After some deliberation, he stated that customer service was his number one priority, and to make my experience better, he would throw in the exam free of charge. We went to the back. He had me lay down on my chest, and the treatment lasted a total of probably five minutes. He massaged my neck a bit, and did what I can only explain felt like CPR for a baby on the back of my neck. He kept asking me if that felt any better, and first it didn't, but after a bit it did actually feel a little bit better. Had we skipped the hour and a half of conversations and tests, and moved into the actual treatment, I feel as though this would have been a better experience. One of the main questions that was asked before I said I'd pay any money (prices aren't divulged because "they don't know what's wrong yet, and can't tell what needs to be done") was, he wanted to know what a good experience with a doctor looked like. I told him that I like it when they are up-front. Allow me to be up-front: -The check in consists of a long drawn-out conversation followed by a half hour of tests - The x-ray costs $50-75 depending on if you mention yelp - Each session costs $50-75 after that Next time, I'll just put the fifty bucks toward a massage, and take a Motrin. read more

I just left Dr. Polucki's office, seeing colors brighter and feeling 20 pounds lighter. I go twice a month for a tune up and always leave feeling better. I started seeing Dr. P about a year ago for the aches and pains I get from my job as an interior decorator. When I started with Dr. P, I was also seeing a medical doctor and a doctor of oriental medicine for disabling fatigue that was making me miserable, loosing me income and costing me a fortune to treat. When Dr. Polucki did his initial consultation and exam he found some things that he said could explain my fatigue and why I wasn't better already but out of respect for my other doctors, I continued with them for two more months even though I only felt a little better after the first four months of treatment. After six months of seeing a pain management doctor, an acupuncturist, a neurosurgeon and a physical therapist, I came to see Dr Polucki.
