My name is Rebecca (Becki) Ducote. I was transported Monday, April 13 from Malbis to Fairhope's Thomas Hospital ER.. Dr. Wilson performed an emergency appendectomy on me. He far surpasses many other doctors. Monday, April 13: admitted as inpatient. Surgery was performed and went well. Tuesday, April 14: discharged to go home - various items of mine were in the small hospital bag issued to me. Items include: 1 pair of white shorts black stripes; 1 pair of black Rothy's , and 1 pair of prescription glasses. As of this moment no one has contacted me with updates. My prescription glasses were approximately $300 and my Rothy slip on black canvas shoes were $150. The shorts were part of a set valued at $26. I had no bottoms. The third floor nurse kindly found me a pair of blue paper pants. My brief stay at Thomas Hospital went fabulously well until things could not be located. .... My husband is handicap and he was assalted by a drunk man outside Baumhower restaurant. He was taken there by the ambulance. He had broken arm with exposed bone losing a lot of blood. He had a concussion and a cut in the forehead. He was treated like a indigent at Thomas hospital the 3 days he stayed there. They neither gave him a shower during his stay nor cleaned him up.. The orthopedic doctor did the surgery that all what they did. They neither stitched the cut on his face nor clean the blood on his face and his hand after the surgery. He had to ask them for wipes to clean himself. They send him home with no regard to his condition. It took him almost 3 months for his mind to come back and act normal. He was alone and they send him home with nobody to help him. I was in Brazil and i call the hospital to complain the treatment he had. They call me back and try to send a help after 4 days. The staff and the nurses do not do their work. They neither care about anybody nor do for what they are paid for. They just getting worse and worse. Care about patient reviews but nothing do to improve. They need better administration. Unfortunately I was away because If I was there with him I would had make a noise. This is about a colonoscopy. The colonoscopy was June 9, 2025 at a remote Thomas Hospital-affiliated facility on Section Street, Fairhope, AL. I have no complaints about the professional staff taking care of me. They were wonderful. What I do have an issue with, and the reason I will never have another procedure at that location is the "rides mut stay in the waiting room" policy and the attitude of the front desk staff. I only learned of the "rides must stay captive" only after reading the instructions my doctor's medical assistant handed me a few days before the procedure. And even then, there was room for doubt. So, I called. Sure enough, rides were imprisoned and had to stay "Under the Eye" (Handmaid's Tale reference deliberate) of the reception staff. I almost lost my ride. The couple planned to get breakfast while waiting. The procedure was scheduled early, and this was almost a dealbreaker. While I was in procedure, I am told the women at the reception desk watched balefully, interrogating my friend when her husband left to use a restroom. As you can imagine, I am never getting another ride from them. And as you will not allow me to call an Uber, it appears I cannot use this facility. I have been in "surgical waiting rooms" in Thomas, Fairhope, and there are no such draconian restrictions. read more

I sat this morning for 4 hours in the ER and never saw a doctor. They made sure they took vital signs (twice) to meet the legal requirements. The reason they gave was no beds/rooms were available. This has been my experience with their ER for the paste 30 years. Poor excuse for quality healthcare. read more

I have always had great experiences at fairhope thomas hospital, until this last time on march 17, 2025, when I went to the Emergency Room for 3-4 fractured ribs from a fall. The female doctor that saw me, ordered X-Rays f my ribs , then told me that I had 1 fractured rib, then sent me home to heal without any pain releaf, that I requested. I cried a home in agony because the pain was a level 9-10 nd continued to get worse. I returned to the ER on March 19th and begged the same doctor to admit me to the hospital, so I could get adequate pain releaf. She repeated the X-Rays and found out that I had 3-4 fractured ribs with my pain being unbearable by that time. She told me that she was not going to admit me, nor was she going to give me anything for pain because ALL ER's did not give anything for pain now. Since I am a retired Registered Nurse, I knew that she was lying to me because the whole idea of a working ER, is to evaluate the patient, (triage), give a diagnosis and treatment AND provide adequate pain releaf, which WAS NOT DONE on either visit. She had a foreign accent and apparently didn't understand how American Hospitals worked. I am still in pain at home because Thomas Hospital and this so called doctor never met my needs. Please consider replacing this uncaring doctor with one that actually listens to their patient. And, for this reason, I want to file a formal complaint to Thomas Hospital Administration because my needs were NOT even addressed, much less taken care of. This was a horrible, uncaring experience. Quite possibly the worst experience I've even had at a hospital. Very little to no communication between the staff and they will send you on a scavenger hunt around the facility. Waited on my mom while she had surgery and they never once updated me about what was going on with her or what stage she was in (post-op, recovery, etc.) They also kept calling the wrong contact when I specifically told them to call my number. Will absolutely never recommend anyone come to this facility for treatment. read more

Best hospital in Baldwin County! My husband and I have both had surgery at this hospital and were well taken care of by doctors, nurses, CNA's and everyone involved. While my husband had an overnight stay after surgery I had breakfast in the cafeteria. I had the most delicious cinnamon roll made by one of the chefs employed by the hospital. Wow! Dr. Steven Andrew what was my release doctor he had no time for my concerns. He dismissed my questions, tell me all my numbers look good I don't know how they think my numbers have changed when no one took a urine sample or a blood since I was here not a very thorough doctor or concerned doctor I'm more or less just felt I was in the way doctors like Dr. Andrew gives the whole hospital a bad review.. would not recommend to no one. nurses were wonderful , but ER Dr Vaughn was terrible. this is my first experience that was not excellent at Thomas. I have been coming here for over 13 years. recently has surgery and my discharge summary said for me to come to hospital if I had any drainage. my surgery was on 4/22. Dr Vaughn told me with asking any questions why I didn't go back to mobile Infirmary. as that was where my surgery was done. she said I would have to transported to Mobile Infirmary if they had any beds. I had a colon resection with 12 in removed. No chemo, or Radiation and no colo bag. when the lab results are done I will go to Mobile Infurmary. read more

I've been a big fan of Thomas in the past. Most of my doctors practice there and I've had two surgeries as well as several procedures at Thomas in the last 20 years. Went to the ER with a head wound the other night, pretty quick to get me back due to bleeding. Not very crowded when I got there but was packed when I checked out 5 hours later. ER Doc was not friendly which is not a requirement, I get it. Had to get the dirt cleaned out of my wound which the doctor did and then gave me a local for stitches, nor sure why I could not have had the local first. Got a pretty high threshold for pain but why ? Had to do my stitches over a second time. Quite a bit of swelling, we asked for an ice pack for 5 hours but never gave us one. Fortunately most of my Doctors practice at South Baldwin, had a great experience there for a routine check a couple of weeks ago. read more

at the time I walked through the door I was treated with dignity and respect. The workers, the volunteers, technicians are all awesome. I had a date with surgery. My time was spent in the cardiac area with mostly outpatients. I must say, I've been going to doctors more times than I can mention. I was very overwhelmed due to the fact I was having a pacemaker removed due to an infection. My doctor, Dr. Robichaux is super awesome. His entire staff are totally outstanding. I want to give a shout out to the sweetest, kindest, respectful, knowledgeable nurses that I had the pleasure to get to know during my stay. I just had double bypass surgery during Mother's Day week. It wasn't something that I actually planned. However, I have a great doctor! The care of service was fine enough as far as things goes on todays scale. But I have found that the older I get the more I expect basic "good manners" can go beyond today's version of medical service. People may say that they are "old school" or from the times that over all customer-care was top priority. Not so. DONT GO HERE!!! If I could give negative stars I would! The absolute worst ER experience I've had in over 40 years at many different facilities in the southeast. Zero communication - was never offer a blanket or sip of water. Left us sitting for hours only to tell us there was a "mixup in their lab" for test results after we demanded an update. Staff was extremely rude and the doctor even told us to "write your letter about how unhappy you are" and didn't care at all about what we might say. They were not at all busy - maybe two other patients in the entire ER - and we listened to laughter and chattering gossip at the nurses station across the hall the entire time. We finally insisted they remove the IV so we could leave. I would go anywhere but here and would drive any distance to avoid this place. read more

My 81-year-old mother is a patient at Thomas Hospital in Fairhope. She fell and shattered her knee Friday and had a knee replacement surgery Sunday. Her nurse call button was not working Saturday night and they said it would be Monday before she they could fix it. Her night nurse said they would leave her door open as her room was just across from the nurses station. I emphasized she was in great pain and they needed to check on her. After I left, she had a pain shot at 10:30 p.m. Thereafter, Dr. Cassie Luke was on rounds that night and visited Momma. She asked my mother if she needed anything. My mother said she was in great pain and needed a shot. Luke was apparently offended, yelled at my mother that if she needed a shot she should call nurse, and stormed out, slamming the door behind her. With the door closed nobody could here her calls or her crying in pain. She saw nobody again until 4:30 a.m. and she was crying hysterically in pain. Dr. Luke is to blame for her suffering. read more

I can't say enough about the wonderful treatment I received at Thomas Hospital. Every step from registration to release was quick and smooth. The RN, Rachel, who prepped me for surgery was great! She was kind and patient with all of my questions and helped to make me feel less nervous about the procedure. The nurses in recovery were also great. They were attentive without being suffocating. I am a disabled teacher with a graduate degree, and my wife is a disabled BSN certified RN. I have had 6 spinal fusions in my past, and my wife has Multiple Sclerosis. Last night, 12/13/2019, my wife and I visited the ER for symptoms of meningitis. We had just been to West Florida hospital, which we left after hours of neglect. My wife's hep-lock was still attached. We came to Thomas Hospital ER to get treatment for the meningitis diagnosed at West Florida. We signed into the ER and were allowed back. We each were assigned rooms and treated as contagious. So far so good. My wife explained the situation to her nurse. The nurse asked for a med list, then cut her off at the point where the nurse came to her own conclusions. The nurse violated HIPAA when she announced my wife's explanation, and her conclusion, to the ER staff. The staff began discussing my wife's medical condition. My wife and I heard the illegal conversations from our rooms, which were 30' apart and on opposite sides of the nursing station. No effort was made to contact West Florida to attain any records. The doctor visited my wife, disregarding her examination results from WF. My wife was accused of being drunk, my wife was accused of being an IV drug user. The doctor was condescending at best, abusive at worse. As my wife spoke of her neck pain, the doctor forced her head up and down briskly, causing more neck pain. The doctor then became very confrontational. She told my wife, "There's nothing wrong with you. You don't have meningitis. You have the flu." If they had listened to my wife, or requested records from WF, they'd know the flu was ruled out. My wife became rightly outraged, and came toward me to tell me that we were leaving. She was blocked by the staff, and resorted to raising her voice, saying "Let's get the f*** out of here!" The staff threatened my wife with law enforcement intervention, because she said a bad word? Law enforcement began following her. I was 30' away, and I do not allow anyone confronting my wife without me present. I yelled across the ER for the LEO to come to me. They left her alone and came to me as I was dressing to leave. A "supposed" civilian dressed LEO came from down the hall and began telling me he would "kick my ass if I didn't leave", as I continued dressing. He stayed with me, trying to start a fight by cussing me, as I finally dressed and left. I spoke with a uniformed LEO and explained to him why I called for him, to allow my wife to leave without intimidation. He was cordial. No, I wouldn't recommend Thomas Hospital ER. They were unprofessional, accusatory, gossipers and abusers. They acted illegally by violating the HIPAA act. I shouldn't be surprised about Thomas Hospital. I know that they have a judgement against them for a recent wrongful death case. I know that they have dozens of complaints, not only here on Facebook, but on national healthcare sites. I know they have a reputation for threatening patients and calling law enforcement when they are confronted. I know they have accusations of abuse of all types. I know they treat their patients as criminals. My first question is, why would a hospital take an accusatory stance with their patients? Why would the staff have a default opinion of believing their patients are "drug seekers", and liars? We never asked for pain medication. We never asked for anything except treatment for our symptoms. Why wouldn't they be concerned with the patient's wellbeing? Why wouldn't they want to practice medicine to the best of their ability? Why wouldn't they want to "Do no harm"? Should I sue? read more

I want to speak on my experience with staff at Thomas Hospital... from the greeters at the door ... to the housekeepers stopping me in the hallway just to be sure I knew how to get assistance for myself (a visitor!!!!!) to the nursing staff caring for my stepmom... EVERYONE gets 5 stars from me!! I am a nurse leader from a hospital in Chicago.... I know what exceptional care looks like and what it does not.... if you guys are not a top 100 hospital you should be.... if you are not a magnet hospital you should be! We are retired military and usually go to the Naval Hospital in Pensocola. Needless to say experience was horrible. The nurse at the nurses station which my door was open, my blood pressure alarm going off says to a co-worker said I hate writing patients "shit" down. Realized my door was opened looked at the alarm going off and shut my door. Went there because I had chest tightness and took a test for Covid. Could say more but I am done. I understand nurses and doctors are overwhelmed but a little kindness goes a long way. read more

Dr. Kharabshesh is the not only uncaring with bad bedside manner but denied me the treatment I needed an the one test that would change the course of treatment. I potentially have a repeat of COVID lung an a CT would have confirmed or dented the diagnosis. I almost died in January with COVID lung an was only detected via chest CT. He refused to do a CT but ordered an ultrasound 9f my kidneys an bladder when I had no symptoms or complaints pertaining to that. I got out of the hospital yesterday an now back home where I live alone a struggling to breath. Run as far as you can from that man. read more

Don't owe this place money....payment arrangements cannot exceed 90 days. I was definitely willing to pay the amount I owed but also had to take into consideration paying my electric bill. The monthly amount that I could afford wasn't sufficient and I was informed at the end of 90 days I would be sent to collections no matter what effort I made. Don't they realize they then will have to pay the collection company and the collection company will give the patient a discount. They end up with a lot less when I was willing to pay the full amount in a 6 month timeframe vs 90 days. read more

Extremely upset with the service a family received this past Saturday August 29, 2020 in the ER. Family member was received earlier that day from the hospital. Via ambulance was taking back to Thomas Hospital ER that evening . Left in a room long term while she was having complications. Released from the hospital and they had the family member walk out of the room carry their own bag nurse Wendy did not offer assistance. More to type but just leaving it at this. Overall I had a very positive experience during my 3 week stay in the ortho wing. They made extra time for me on numerous occasions and kept me in good spirits. During busy times or when they were short staffed the nurses backed each other up to make sure the patients were taken care of. read more

Took my dad here due to him having some heart problems after stint surgery. Waited two hours for a room. He was later put in a temporary room before later being removed from it and placed in the hallways for hours on end. The staff here is horrible and can not get anything done in a timely manner. Lots of attitude coming from these nurses which was not appreciated. My father was never fed a single meal in the 9 hours he was here 11am to 8pm. read more

It is hard to give 5 stars to a hospital - I mean, how great can it be to be in the hospital? Right at the new Year I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. It is very rare at my age (50) and absolutely no fun to experience. My treatment included several tests at Thomas and the insertion of a PICC line for my wound management meds. I can't speak enough of how pleasant every single person is. My experience has been in many departments including ER for some emergency insulin. They get me in and out very quickly. The results are communicated to my doctors in a timely fashion. Billing is accurate. Thomas Hospital will be part of my routine for a while and I have to say I do not dread my tests. Parking stinks, but the long walk is good exercise! (There is free valet parking and also golf cart shuttles available.) read more

My husband came in for a routine shot of pain med for his prostrate cancer that had metastasis to his bone (misdiagnosed by 4 different drs there) The Er kept looking for ways to do surgery, which someone with cancer you don't want to do. They put him in hospital, 2 hours late on pain meds, wonderful. Then found out his internist took away his chemo! read more

I was rushed to the ER for chest pains, from the moment I arrived I received excellent care! Dr. Dearing, Dr. Bunch, and Dr. Trice were all very thorough and had excellent bedside manners! The nursing staff on 2 North were so excellent!! The RN's, Nicki, Deanna, and Katie were very attentive and very professional! The CNA's Emily and Maya were awesome!!! These ladies on 2 North made me and my family feel so comfortable and at ease, it took our minds off my illness!! On 12/11/19 the nurse on duty Sonya had a horrible attitude and bedside manner and the CNA Sarah was especially hostile and rough.

My elderly father came to the Thomas Hospital ER at 4:00 pm yesterday by ambulance. He was put in a room and xrays and bloodwork was taken within an hour. We then waited 5 hours for the doctor to come back with results. The nurses were walking around as though they were zombies. One nurse actually pushed a monitor into a wall making the picture go out. I also noticed that there were several nurses at the desk but no one was acting like they cared about the patients in the rooms. I left at 10:00 pm and went home but returned to get him this morning to find him still in the ER. We were told he has to be admitted to be released??? But in my observations there are dirty soiled linens on his floor, urine bottles left on the counter. He told me that last night he soiled his clothes and called the nurse and no one came for 30 minutes. They did not give him his nightly medications nor his morning medications. Did not even ask. We collectively as a family have been coming here since 1965. I have never seen such poor quality control. read more

Took me a year after my heart surgery to finally sit down and write a review. I am not a complainer and was as nice as I could be to the staff. I have been angry about my experience and now that I am facing a 2nd heart surgery I decided to finally do this. I am a retired Nurse from a hospital in the Chicago area suburbs of Illinois.chose to not say anything to anyone. I had hoped for the care and concern I provided but didn't get that. After my Mitral Valve repair I woke up in the CCU. I remember a woman's voice although I was too drugged to really see anyone. She was the last nice nurse and the only part of the experience I remember as being good even though I was in a lot of pain. The next 2 days in CCU I had 2 male nurses. I woke up the day after surgery and was told I had to get into a chair. They helped me in and didn't come back to take me out for 6 hours. I had fallen asleep many times in that chair but every time I woke up, I was just slouched in the chair in terrible pain. I was in agony! They left me there with no nurse call button the whole time and they ran in and out quickly to check tubing and replace IV's but had no time to help me get back in bed. My first dinner tray came and was plopped down on the table and was too far for me to even reach. Someone finally came in pushed it closer and then ran out only to find out they gave me a regular diet with chicken even tho I could barely swallow so I never even touched it. Two days went by in CCU with the worst care ever. When I was being transferred to the regular unit, I finally told him I was a nurse and his response was "you should have told us, we would have taken better care of you!" When I got to the regular unit, no one once ever came to get me up in a chair or help me walk. Not the entire time I was there! The 2nd night I was there there was a fire in the kitchen on the unit. The fire alarms blasted for a long time and no one ever came to my room to let me know what was going on. Someone finally came by and slammed my door shut. It wasnt till about 2 hours later when they finally rolled in my pain meds that I was able to find out about the fire. I could go on and on with the neglect and bad nursing care that I experienced. The nurses all complained of short staffing which I know was true. When I was in CCU over the weekend, the 2 male nurses were the only ones there. I have had nightmares about my experience at Thomas hospital and will never go back there! read more

My autistic, childlike 60 yr old brother was taken to Thomas Hospital with altered mental status and 102.9 fever. Of course, no visitors are allowed due to Covid so I am attempting to provide and get information over the phone. I am finally told at 2:00 am that all his tests are fine and that he has been tested for Covid and that won't come back until tomorrow and he needs to be picked up. I ask if he can now walk because he couldn't a few hours before and was told yes. When I arrived, he is completely out of it, 3 nurses try to put him in the car. He is stiff and cannot bend, bangs his head several times agains the side of the car. I was told "he's discharged now." I mentioned I would like to have a video of how he is acting and the 3 nurses called 3 security guards because I was "videoing". I was answering a text from worried family. As I was driving he tried to open the door with the car moving. I am sitting in the car with him talking to himself trying to contemplate my next move. Thank you Thomas Hospital! read more
