While I could go in and on about how happy I am with this practice I will talk about why I always seek out D.O.'s. With my years in ER's, and Navy hospitals, I have worked closely with MD's and OD's and have almost always been impressed with the approach to care and treatment with OD's overall. Medical doctors (MD's) and doctors of osteopathic medicine (DO's) are both licensed physicians who have similar medical education and training requirements, but they are significantly different in their approach to patient care and philosophies in general. MD's are trained in allopathic medicine, which is based on the use of drugs and surgery to treat symptoms and diseases. Way too often it's all about prescription meds for symptoms and not about addressing the causes, sad. DOs, on the other hand, are trained in osteopathic medicine, which emphasizes the body's natural ability to heal itself. They're trained to look at the whole person, including physical, emotional and even spiritual aspects, and consider how those factors may be affecting a patient's health. Some even use a hands-on approach to diagnose and treat patients, that can incorporate manual manipulations and other physical techniques. Note, both types of physicians are qualified to provide a wide range of medical services, including preventative care, diagnosis, and treatment of illnesses and injuries. I may be biased today as my wife is a doctor of Naturopathic Medicine and we're both Reiki practitioners however DO's were my chose of doctor before either of us went down those roads, they just fit my idea of good medicine. I did as I was directed and the employee at the doctors' office didn't seem to be willing to help me. I hung up the phone and waited two and a half hours before calling the pharmacy and was told that the prescription was never called in. Now the doctors' office as well as the pharmacy are both closed and I will have another night of not getting any relief. Doctors! I reviewed and updated My Chart and checked in online, so I didn't have to do it in the office; I only had to pay my co-pay. I had an address correction on My Chart, and after that was done, I waited only a few minutes before I was called back for my appointment with Dr Adrien DiVittorio. After taking my weight, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation, the nurse asked the usual questions about changes in medications and issues I've had since my last visit. After summarizing what I needed to discuss with Dr. DiVittorio, I waited until he arrived. Dr. DiVittorio had already reviewed My Chart updates and the summary, so we got right to him asking questions and changing medication to get better results. I was given a sample inhaler to start on and will follow up with the nurse practitioner in four months to see how I do on the new regimen. I like how Diagnostic and Medical Clinic and Dr. Adrien DiVittorio's Office work. Their system is very efficient. This was her first medical encounter of any kind since moving here and fortunately this facility is just down the road from us, takes our insurances and is open 24/7. Before I get into the specifics a little background is needed. I was a Navy corpsman and worked in a Navy ER (emergency room) plus several dispensaries before working in a civilian trauma center for several years and also a paramedic driving ambulance on occasion. My sweetheart spent her college pre-med years in a Catholic nursing home then 4 years in Navy hospitals and 40* years in civilian hospitals (20+ at St Jude) and she is a ND (Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine) sooooo we know a little bit about urgent care and what to expect. With that said here's what happened ....... First impressions were good with plenty of parking, large clean waiting room with masks and hand sanitizers everywhere and there's wheelchairs available for the non-ambulatory, check. The receptionist ( not sure if she is the triage nurse ) is pleasant and immediately put a monitor on my honey's finger to get her O2 saturation, good. Hands me some forms and they continue to take her story and assess the situation, competent triage, check. You are informed that although this is called Urgent Care, they only bill your visit as an office visit. Why is that important to you as a patient? They don't get into the weeds on the insurance implications but i can tell you from my years of experience that depending on your insurance carrier there could be some unexpected charges singling out individual lab test, x-rays or the physician, etc. That can also easily happen in an ER today where you could be seen by several doctors (orthopedic, neurologists, radiologist, etc. and one or more might be out of network or all may be covered. it's kind of a crap shoot these days but for us we are well covered in this scenario but it's your choice, as always, whether you want to drive 20 minutes to an ER and take your chances or give this place a shot. Moving on, our wait was less than 10 minutes and we went in to a small but comfortable exam room where the check-in nurse took vitals and after a few minutes the nurse practitioner arrives and takes a detailed history and orders an x-ray. Without getting into personal stuff we only waited about another 20 minutes for the NP comes back and tells us that the lungs and x-ray looked okay but the radiologist was backed up and that they'd call us with the official reading. She called in an antibiotic that we could opt to pick up if things got worse and we were on our way. Overall it was a much more pleasant and timely experience that many ER's and we feel confident with the results. Bottom line: I am happy to report that everyone we encountered were professional and friendly and treated her with compassion and most importantly with respect. The result was exactly what we expected and we have confidence in our local urgent care facility. Recommended!
