Please make sure you have everything is writing because this business said one thing and then did not do it. However they charged such inflated rates that it had to have been with these extra charges in mind. Think very hard before you use this funeral parlor. read more

They don't even deserve one star rating. I don't recommend Thomas Burger Funeral Home. They are very unprofessional. Jim claims to have been in the funeral business for years. You wouldn't know it by his unprofessional behavior. His so called boss Doug is no better. Doug and Jim have allowed a so called person change my Uncle's obituary. My uncle composed an obit when he paid for his funeral. The person in charge has been put on hold. As far as I'm concerned I don't feel we should continue with the plans for a military graveside service. My uncle doesn't need to be disgraced. I do recommend highly Derna Funeral Home on Culver Road. They are professional and go out of their way to see you a difficult time. Three months after my father passed, and they never even attempted to schedule my father's service at the cemetary. I called repeatedly over several days before I could get anybody to call me back. I gave up waiting, and ended up doing the entire thing myself. I am disgusted knowing that I had to schedule my father's interment myself. I will NEVER use their services again. read more

It is very difficult to write my experience with this funeral home and it has taken years for me to get to the point where I think I can explain it. Thomas Burger Funeral Home was always the BEST to my family...aunts and uncles loved the service and the respect they were given by Mr. Burger. A few years back Jason Gano worked for the funeral home and that was when my bad experience began. Jason argued with my mother as to when we would have a funeral service for a family member BECAUSE he had tickets to a concert!!!! My family member had prepaid and had worked with Mr. Burger, in my family members' living room, to set up her service as she wished but Jason was not going to have it!! Her wishes did not work into his concert schedule. He was rude and crude and totally unacceptable!! There were many other extremely inappropriate issues at the funeral home that Jason was involved with.(if you read the newspapers you know exactly what I am referring to) They are issues that Mr. Burger turned his back to! My concerns are....Mr. Burger NEVER took ownership of the terrible things that Jason, his employee, was doing while working at his funeral home. Mr. Burger NEVER came forth and tried to make the families feel better. He NEVER showed that caring, respectful side that my family always said he had. He just let Jason Gano destroy families trust in the service of a wonderful funeral home that we had been using and felt comfortable with for years. Available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week to provide prompt, compassionate and competent service. We offer pre-arrangement planning, personalized funeral and cremation services to accommodate everyone's wishes and budget. We also offer a wide assortment of Caskets, Monuments, Containers, and Personalization Items to help enable families to create a wonderful tribute to the life of their loved ones.

History

Established in 1976.

Establishment of a funeral home in Hilton, New York, Tom Burger's hometown, was a long time dream of his. It became a reality in the fall of 1976. The property was purchased and the business incorporated in June of that year. He was very fortunate to obtain a piece of property on the outskirts of the village of Hilton. It consisted of just under 3 acres and had a ranch home very suitable for conversion to a funeral home. Zoning changes were made quite easily. Renovation of the actual house began in early July. The work was done by Gerald Klafehn, contractor and a long time family friend. The interior decoration was coordinated by Mr. Burger and Eleanor Stothard. They both wanted the facility to be homelike as possible. Blue and green were the predominant colors. Some traditional furniture was purchased but family and locally obtained antiques were used as focal points as well as accent pieces. His father, Edward Burger, oversaw much of the renovation. Meet the Business Owner: Thomas B.

Mr. Burger was born in nearby Brockport, New York June 13, 1946. His ancestors settled in western Monroe County (Town of Greece) when the area was first settled as early as 1791 and the early 1800's(Town of Parma). He attended Hilton, New York schools and graduated from Hilton Central High school in June 1964. He had early aspirations of becoming a funeral director in high school especially after witnessing the terminal illness and funeral procedures following the deaths of his grandfathers. He was never encouraged by those already practicing in the field something that he has made sure he would never do after establishing his own business. The doors and office of the Burger Funeral Home have always been open to anyone expressing an interest in funeral service. He attended and graduated from Cornell University June 1968 with a B.S. Degree. He taught school in Buffalo, New York from 1968 until June 1973 obtaining a M.S. in Education from SUNY @ Buffalo. See website for more info

I highly recommend Thomas E Burger Funeral Home. They are the most compassionate, caring staff I have ever met. From the first sit down to almost a month after the funeral we have been in contact. They consistently check in to see how you are doing throughout the process as well as afterwards. Doug is like a friend you have known your entire life from the moment you step in the door. He is personable and helps walk you through the most difficult time in your life. I lost my Fiancé and we are very young. He made the worst time of my life not so terrible. The family situation on top of it was a nightmare and he handled it extremely professionally. He spoke with both sides and did the ethical thing in all circumstances that were brought up. Doug went WAY above and beyond what was ever expected throughout my experience and anyone who has to go through this sad process should find comfort in Berger Funeral Home. A pillar of the community for decades, Mr. Burger has conducted most of my family's services during my lifetime. Throughout my childhood, he could greet everybody in the community by name, and show sincere regards for everyone's well being. This funeral home goes above and beyond during difficult times, even mediating family quarrels emphasizing the entire legacy of the departed. Mr. Burger's personal relationships with many allows him the knowledge of what the departed would smile upon while looking down on us. read more
